    My Black Bean Soup Story

I waited about an hour and had two more little spoonfuls! It was delicious. I have little portion baggies from Wal-Mart that someone from support group showed me, so I've been freezing all my leftover soup in. Even though I knew it was going to be this small beforehand, I'm still in shock how quickly I get full! I'm going to have to carefully plan out when I taste the food I'm cooking from now on so I can actually eat at the end!

For any new sleevers on here

Yeah, my surgeon didn't allow it either. I'm still in full liquids and asked my NUT a very similar question. She said no fruit, not even no-added-sugar apple sauce. Ask your surgeon or NUT.
  3. Hi! I was sleeved on 5 /26 too. I started at 340, had the surgery 320, and I'm below 310 now. I definitely notice a difference already in walking around - It's been a lot easier for me! I have trouble stretching my meals to thirty minutes as well (except when it's a Protein shake - takes me an hour to get one down!), but I'm not going to worry about that until I'm on solid food. It's nice to find someone on here who's struggled with anxiety and depression too and has seen a therapist. I've had one for ten years or so (sometimes on and off), and she's been the biggest source of support for me so far. The last year or so has been really rough with my depression, and having the sleeve to look far to and work toward really saved me. I know my therapist is going to be a huge help in the upcoming year. By the way, I think you look great and I can definitely see the difference! Keep up the good work. =)

    Help what can I eat?

I had surgery on May 26th as well. I'm allowed full liquids, so I've been doing protein drinks, soup (mostly tomato), sugar free popsicles, and Greek yogurt.

    Surgery day

Hope everything is going great! Wishing you a speedy recovery.
  6. Good luck! Hope it all goes well!
  7. Well, I'm only 23 and I had the vsg a week ago. I've had weight issues my whole life and I've been considering wls since I was 16 or so. I'm glad I did it now, rather than later, because I want the chance to fix my problems now and live a long, healthy, and most importantly - happy life. The sleeve gave me a future to look forward to.
  8. Jealous of your soft foods! Hoping it goes well for you! I hear refried beans with ff cheese are a favorite. Let us know how it goes.
  9. I was sleeves on May 20th and I'm 25, you're not alone! ????I was sleeved in the 26th and I'm actually 21! The whole no-alcohol thing seems to be the hardest for me right now because all of my friends are having birthdays and the bar is where we all seem to hang out now!Awesome! I'm so glad to finally find some people on here around my age. Not that everyone here hasn't been super helpful, I just feel like it's such a different experience going through this when we're young. It's a fairly new procedure for weight - loss and we're going to be living with it for a long, long time! I agree the non-alcohol thing is difficult. I pretty much told my friends I'd be going into hibernation for a couple of months since most of our activities have revolved around alcohol. I'm going to make it work though and still find ways to go out and have fun until then. We should definitely all keep in touch since we were sleeved at the same time and will be going through all the stages together. Yeah for sure! Are you on soft foods yet? I start Thursday and can't wait! I lost 12 lbs by day 5 post and haven't lost anything since I'll be 2 weeks post tomorrow, guessing my body is in survivor mode and maybe will start the scale will start moving again when I can get some actual food in ✌????️ Not yet! I think I move onto pureed/mushy at my two-week follow-up appointment next Tuesday! I'm just starting to get sick of liquids now, surprisingly. I'm so excited to get to eat some different foods soon! My weight has been fluctuating every day and there are days I don't lose, so I wouldn't worry about the scale right now! I'm actually going to try to move to weekly weighing instead of daily so I stop freaking myself out.
  10. I was sleeved on 5/26 as well and yesterday was probably a turning point. I'm feeling a bit better today, still a fair amount of stomach pain. My gas pain has mostly gone away - but gas-ex strips and chewable gas meds helped a lot. I'm having so much trouble getting enough water and protein! I'm finally ordering unflavored protein today because I know I'm never going to be able to get all my protein in with shakes and other food alone. What's everyone else's biggest struggle right now?

  12. Hi everyone! I was sleeved on Tuesday and I'm on full liquids. I had some clam chowder today (my family went out for lunch). Obviously I only sipped the liquid and I didn't have very much, but after many sips, I felt like my face and head was very hot, I was dizzy, and my stomach didn't feel good. It wasn't nausea and it went away maybe ten minutes later. I can't tell if I just took a few too many sips and this was my sleeve's way of saying "too much!", if it had something to do with dairy/ingredients, or if it was something more serious? I'm not lactose intolerant or anything, and I've been doing fine with Greek yogurt, but the symptoms (and trip to the bathroom shortly thereafter), made me think of that. Thoughts, suggestions? Should I be worried? I feel totally fine now but I wanted to get some input do I can avoid that in the future!
  13. Thank you both!! I knew that dumping was an option with the sleeve (of course I had the "it won't happen to me" attitude), and I'm glad to know what it is so I'm not worried. I've had some other cream-based soups and I've been fine, so I'll keep an eye out for other things that bother me.
  14. Hi everyone! I'll be sleeved on Tuesday, 5/26 and I'm sure this has been posted before, but I'd love to hear your best pieces of advice or things you wish people had told you when you got the surgery. Any resources you use that you swear by (books, websites, apps, etc)? My surgeon's office is amazing and supportive but I want to hear what works from people who have actually had it too! =)
  15. I can't attest to the hearing the noise, but for the coughing, I've been so nervous too! I'm getting over a bad cold from pre-surgery still and I had a coughing fit today, and it hurt my stomach so badly! I was so afraid I was going to open an incision or cause a leak!
  16. @@kimby1029, I feel the same way about warm liquids. Cold liquids seem to give me worse stomach cramps but warm liquids seem to do just fine! Yogurt excluded, since that seems to be OK for me too.
  17. Thanks everyone! I'm not going to lie and say I'm not a little nervous. I've never been 100 percent confident in myself, but I've also never been this dedicated to something before so I'm doing my best to follow all the rules, and I think I've been doing pretty well so far. Thanks for all the advice! I'm really enjoying reading about everybody's progress here.
  18. I can eat a whole thing of yogurt but it takes me almost an hour to get it down, same with a protein shake. And I haven't been getting anywhere near 64 ounces of water yet! I'm four days post-op.
  19. I second that! My surgeon gave me liquid Tylenol with codeine and it seems to help a little. It definitely makes me drowsy though!

    Post-Op check in! Sleeved 5/26/15

I'm having the same problem. I thought I was taking sips but then when I took tiny, tiny sips, I didn't feel as much cramps. I haven't even hungry at all and the MyFitnessPal app has to keep reminding me to eat! I can't wait until I can sleep on my side again! I'm a horrible back-sleeper.
  21. I went home from the hospital today and got to drink water for the first time! My barium swallow didn't show any leads! I shockingly haven't really had nausea but my stomach is still bothering me a ton! Every time I sit up, sit down, lay down, more in certain areas directions, etc. And I'm having really bad cramps. I don't know if it's just gas or if it's relayed to my period, because I went to the bathroom the say after surgery, peed, and saw blood in the toilet), but I used a pad they gave me and saw no blood after that time! I'm planning on asking my surgeon if there's anything I can take for constipation. Oh! And I'm not hungry at all. So weird. Anybody else experience anything like these?
  22. I'm finally two pounds below my pre-surgery weight, since I gained SIX pounds in the hospital! Don't worry about your day to day weight. It'll start going down soon! Just be patient! I was only sleeved on Tuesday. I'm having so much trouble getting in my water. I get stomach cramps every time I drink even a couple of sips.
  23. Has anybody done the pre-op liquid diet and not had much trouble with it? I mean, I was exhausted the first two days, but I'm fine now. I'm pretty much subsisting on greek yogurt and soup right now, but I've been throwing in one protein drink a day. I love greek yogurt, so to me, it hasn't been too limiting.

    Post-Op check in! Sleeved 5/26/15

You're so right! I actually was freaked out be a useful I hadn't pooped since a few days before surgery and my surgeon said I could take coach and I haven't pooped yet, but I feel a lot better. I've been taking gas-ex too and it seems to help. That should say *because I hadn't pooped
  25. Yeah, the patch definitely helped. It was mandatory for my surgeon. He's even great so far! I've called him twice since I was released because I was freaked out about two things and he was helpful and didn't care that I was bothering him. I'm feeling slightly better today. I think a lot of my pain was from constipation, not from the surgery. I think the worst part so far has been having to sleep on my back! It sucks! I'm a lifelong side sleeper. Good luck on your surgery! My advice is just to be prepared for everything! Be ready for the hospital stay, and everything post op!
