  1. Okay, since surgery (vsg Feb 2016) I've tried to stay very low carb and feared carbs in moderation because I didn't want to end up overeating them and gaining. Well now I'm finding myself having a really hard time staying low carb and I keep binging on carbs. I keep trying to get back on the very low carb wagon and I'll do good for a day or so but then over indulge in sugary junk. I'm gaining and freaking out because I am not sure how to fix this. So I'm considering not being so restrictive with carbs to see if I can overcome this all or nothing mentality and find more of a balance with my eating so that I can continue towards my goal. Thoughts??? Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App

    The 6 Month Struggle

Yep, in the beginning I was all like, "I can't lose more than 20 pounds or I won't qualify." Now I'm like "Maybe if I only drink Protein shakes before my next weigh in I will counter act those giant cheeseburger pounds I put on this week." It's crazy. I need to lose weight to prove I can follow a program but I can't lose too much or I won't qualify... so I say screw it and go looking for chocolate. Insanity.
  3. My insurance is one of many that requires a 6 month medically supervised diet before they will approve surgery. My bariatric office has a medical dr. that is supervising me during this time and I go in for another appt. with her on Tuesday after having been on this program for 2 months now. And I've not been sticking to the program well. I've tried but man, I'm so burned out on dieting that I'm having a hard time sticking with anything consistently. I'll do fine for a couple days and track everything I eat but eventually I give in to the hunger and rebel against the deprivation. I totally feel like a failure and I'm in a funk about it. I dread going in there and having gained weight or at least not having lost any. Blah! If I could diet and be successful on my own I wouldn't need the freaking surgery! Sticking to a 1500 calorie low carb diet just feels like torture... mentally mostly. I know I need to get my act together and jump through all the necessary hoops though. Thanks for letting me rant. Anyone else have a hard time with their supervised diet?

    Any NC sleeves!?

For those of you waiting for an appt at Carolinas Weight Management... if you know that your insurance requires a medically supervised diet then you can go ahead and start that program with them while you wait for your seminar and surgeon appt. That's what my husband and I have done because I wanted to get started asap. My sister in law got sleeved with Southeast and has had great results

    Any NC sleeves!?

Charlotte here. Going to Carolinas Weight Management. Hubby and I are getting sleeved together and we meet the surgeon (Dr Gersin) tomorrow. Started the 6 month supervised diet last month so hoping for surgery December or January.

    Pregnant

God doesn't make mistakes. This baby was conceived for a reason even though it is at a very difficult time for you. I pray that you choose life for your baby's sake as well as your own. An abortion on top of recently having surgery would be very risky for your health and its something you would likely regret the rest of your life. You can do this.

    A dream come true

I love your story! Thank you for this post. I hope your trip is amazing!
  8. Me too girl! My first consult is 5 weeks away and surgery likely won't be until early next year. Seems like an eternity but time does have a way of flying.
  9. Just wondering if anyone here had wls at the same time as your spouse. My husband and I are considering sending our kids to my mom's house for a week or so while we have surgery on the same day. We would have a friend bring us home from the hospital. We figure by doing it all at the same time we can support each other through the various stages and have someone to commiserate with, ha ha. What say you... wise or naive?
  10. I can only think of one person I know that lost a lot of weight and kept it off long term. For me and my husband, wls is our last hope. I certainly don't expect it to be easy. I've dieted since elementary school and I've finally come to the conclusion that I need something more to help me get my health back for good.

    Dumping Syndrome

I thought dumping syndrome only happened to bypass patients. The surgeon I met explained that it happens when the person ate sugary food. Normally the sugar wood be diluted in the stomach but because a bypass patient no longer has the stomach valve, the contents go straight into the intestines. The sugar still needs to be diluted so water is pulled into the intestines and that's what causes the pain and sweating and diarrhea. But sleeve patients have the stomach valve so.... the surgeon said it wouldn't happen. I'm guessing it does happen though? Probably because the stomach is too small to dilute the sugar enough?

    Just starting process

I'm just getting started in the process. My hubby and I are both going to get the vsg. We have to do 6 month medically supervised diet for the insurance company. We have an appointment to get that started in late June so I'm guessing the surgery will be possible next January/February timeframe.
  14. So many things... It will be incredible to be able to clothes shop anywhere I want. I hate being limited to such a small array of mostly ugly plus size clothes. I really look forward to going to an amusement park with my hubby and not worrying that we won't fit on a ride. We have a great amusement park in our city but we've never been there together.
