So I am 8 weeks out. Post surgery i have lost 15 pounds. Yes..I know...that is 2 pounds a week....but 11 of it was week 1. 4 in week 4 and then NOTHING. I have been on this non stop stall and then today I am up 3 pounds. What am I doing wrong? I am hungry, a lot. Not head hunger either. Some of it might be because I work graveyard so I am tired. I work out 3 days a weeks, cardio and weights. I eat around 1200 calories a day split into 4-6 small meals. The gain is probably from someone telling me to eat more...so i did...all weekend ...all and bam...up 3 pounds (not all health food mind you. My friend got married and I split a cupcake with the bf). But I passed on everything not meat or veggies. Today I had 1/4 of a burger. 1 power crunch bar, 1 c ricotta bake with turkey and eggplant added, and 32 ounces of Water -so far. I will probably have 1 serving of pretzels before I leave work since I have 3 more hours to go and I am hungry already. Then I will go home and go to bed. Seriously. ..I am getting the same results and working just as hard as I was before surgery. So where am I ****ing up?

Band to sleeve in one surgery. Who's had it done that way? How long had you had your band? What was your recovery like? Any complications? Regrets?

They took mine out before I left the hospital. It was still draining some but it was only a little. The point of it was to watch for blood and dye make sure there were no leaks. -

On the topic of drastic numbers. Guys....a pound a day is 365 in a year. That is 3.5-7 times the recomendable speed during normal dieting. It will happen in your first few weeks for sure but do not expect huge numbers like that forever. You would be really ill if you were to drop 15 pounds a week every week till goal. It is not healthy. Anywhere from 1-5 pounds a week is a great loss. I am not saying anyone is doing anything wrong but I would hate to see you heartbroken in 3 - 4 weeks when it slows down to normal. Ps. TAKE YOUR VITAMINS! ❤❤❤❤❤ -
8 weeks since surgery and I think I am flunking this test!
thecakewasalie replied to erenee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Please understand that every surgeon is different and every surgeon's plan is different. I did not have a liquid pre-op diet. I had a low carb, 1000 calories a day diet of just lean Proteins and non-starchy veggies for 3 weeks. My surgeon has been doing bariatric surgery for years, has a ton of them under his belt, and is part of a Bariatric Center of Excellence. I had a revision from band to sleeve which he says is different from straight sleeve too in what you will feel with restriction and what you will be able to eat to start with. I would advise your husband to follow what his surgeon says. Ok, strange. On my screen all of the quotes ....like when you quote someone. ..have my photo in them. For a min I was like....wait...I never said that. -
8 weeks since surgery and I think I am flunking this test!

I am three weeks out from surgery. And yes I can eat regular food without any problems and eat 1000 calories a day easily. A meal is 5 oz of Protein and a salad no problem. I do have a nutritionist but she's on vacation. I'm thinking I got a bigger stomach after the surgery. I have had zero problems with eating anything and I can chug a glass of Water easily too with no problems. I see my surgeon next week. I'm not eating crap food - I'm eating lean protein and veggies but I can still eat more than I should be able to at this point.I think MANY conversion folks feel that way. I know I did. This "I can only sip 2oz of water and I feel like I am drowning " never happened to me. There are as many after surgery diets as there are doctors. Everyone thinks their doc is the most right. But if none of them agree then my thought is there is no scientific answer and they are all GUESSING. SO, just be aware of that when people start judging you and what your doc has you doing. MOST people on here mean well, and they may come off as being harsh but they are providing helpful information along the way and they do care. Others are just food shaming and do nothing other than that...not actually offering any usefulness in their post. Ignore those ones and try not to let it get to you. Most docs do not have people on solids at 3 weeks but I have read the post diets from 3 different hospitals who do. So I am not totally suprised. That being said. It still hurts for me to eat meat. But that is me. If you are 3 weeks out and able to eat 1000 calories of solid food then you might benefit from a 5 day pouch test. You can look it up online but pretty much go back to liquids for a couple days, then mushies, softs, then regular food again. Some people say that helps them get some better restriction. Eating solids...and too much solid too soon and put stress on your staple line. I have also read that it can cause you to stretch out a but more...making it hard to fill up. I don't know how much of that is "bro science " and how much of that is proven science but it can't hurt to do a reset and see how you feel. Also, when you are eating normal food. Make sure you are not drinking with or too soon after. Conversion surgery people already seem to have their food make its way into the lower gi a little faster so don't speed that process up. Eat slow, BUT don't eat so slow that it takes you more than 20 min. I wad doing this very thing!!! I wad taking about 45 min to eat...and could eat a lot. But I sped up just a little bit and started stopping after 20 min and I am filling up on less calories. 1000 calories can add up fast. And really...in the long run....it is what we should eventually be eating. The idea that we live on 500 calories a day for ever is absurd. The point of this honeymoon phase is to help you lose weight WHILE retraining your system to eat healthy. NO ONE GETS FAT ON 1000 CALORIES A DAY OF VEGETABLES AND chicken....unless you are 2. So.... Hang in there. ..listen to your body....and just keep making good choices. Much love!!! Thanks! I saw my surgeon 2 days ago for my post-op follow up and he said he took off about 70% instead of the usual 80% because of the band. He didn't want leaks. He also said that 1,000 calories a day is fine and not to worry about what the NUT says. He said they are more used to dealing with straight sleevers and not revisions. He said revisions can sometimes eat more and I'm doing fine. He told me to just stick to Proteins and hit the goal and then fill in with the non-starchy veggies and not to worry about it. My surgeon's normal plan is for people to start solids between day 10 and day 14 depending on how they feel. Lean proteins and non-starchy veggies. He keeps reminding me every time I see him not to eat mashed potatoes. I hate, loathe and despise mashed potatoes. I told him I'd rather eat canned cat food - at least it has protein. Hahahahahha you go girl! I was eating similar to you...went to liquids 2 meals a day and just eggs for the 3rd meal. Now I am filling up on a lot less. Didn't even take 5 days. But I am losing again. Do what works for you...but if it stops working. ..try mixing it up a little. Remember. ..marathon...not a sprint. -

Band to sleeve in one procedure
thecakewasalie replied to ette16's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It took just under 2 for the actual surgery portion. I had a ton of damage and scar tissue. he shaved some down where the band was. I had one on my esophagus that they left alone just in case -

That was me too. In fact I am 8 weeks out and my port area still hurts to rub it. I had it done in one. On a Friday was back to work on Tuesday. But I have a sitting job. I didn't take ANY pain meds post surgery because I don't like them. I hurt but it was livable. Eating WILL BE DIFFICULT. You will probably get stuck on everything for a while. 8 weeks and I am finally able to eat without any problems. -
4 weeks post and I still PB
thecakewasalie replied to thecakewasalie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It finally went away. Took 8 freaking weeks...but I can eat normal slow and not stick -
I am 4 weeks post conversion and I still have, what I like to call, a ghost band. I get stuck on food and I PB it right back up. Does that ever go away? The doc said I had a big callus around my stomach where the band was that he had to shave down and I have another on my esophagus. Part of the draw to the sleeve was no PBing...and after my band broke, I lost all restriction, and I didn't PB at all....suddenly with the surgery I do. Anyone have any insight?

Yes, the nutritionist said it was fine to do lean Proteins and green veggies at the end of week two. I just had to do Protein shakes, yogurt and cream soups the first 2 weeks. The program at the hospital I went to progresses you to solids between day 10 and day 14. Some hospitals have people progressing to solids after week 1. I still hurt if I eat meat. But every doc is different and it seems like everyone thinks their's is right. I am 100% mine is an idiot for post op stuff. But that is me. I am out here in lala land thinking if every doc has such different ideas...then really...everyone is just guessing. Do what feels right as long as it is smart. I am 8 weeks out and meat hurts...so i don't eat it but I can have salad with out any problems so I eat till I am full. I can down half a bottle of Water and 30oz of protein shake+ decafe espresso in an hour or so. But my doc says I am off liquid Protein by now and on meats....not gonna happen yet. -

@@RNsleever715 Here is the upside...and it took me all month to come to this conclusion. Yes...I have not lost any weight in almost 8 weeks. YES i am very bugged about that. BUT...and this is a big BUT (one T not 2) I AM NOT GAINING ANY WEIGHT EITHER. I gained 3 pounds and it is almost gone so I am pretty sure that was PMS weight. BUT prior to having this done I was not only not losing but when I didn't lose I would panic...eat..and gain. I gained 40 pounds in a year. So if I only lose 20 pounds a YEAR and I don't GAIN...that is a HUGE plus! Good luck with your surgery! -

Good call. I am upping my Water intake. I know I was lacking in that department. I am making a point to get in 60-80oz of WATER a day...not including any other liquids like Protein and such. Hopefully that will help. But 8 weeks of water? I think my body is just like OMG NOOOOOOO you have not weighed less than 220 since you were 15....this is going to KILL YOU. YOU CAN"T DO IT. And so it is just staying right freaking where it wants to be. Little does it know..... I. Will. Win! -

I wasn't really on anything before surgery other than BP meds. I took myself off of them because I started getting dizzy after surgery with them. I was only a little bit high when I was put on them. I do have a epic TON of heartburn and it feels like hunger. I am thinking about going in to Zoom care and asking for something for it. Maybe that is why I feel the need to eat so many meals in a day. -

15 pounds in 7 days is a huge amount of loss. There might be some yogurts with less carbs but look at your total for the day. It seems like everyone everywhere has a different idea of what is the right way to eat. I eat 30 or less a day and I am still not losing. I gave up yogurt and pretty much anything else like it and I am just barely losing .2 pounds a week. Hang in there love. -

I agree but it said 33 grams of that was in my salad...before dressing. I seriously doubt it as there was only a small amount of cheese on it. I think they entered the info into myfitnesspal incorrectly. But that is what it says so that is what I am rolling with for now. But yeah...that seemed a bit high to me too. -

Ok guys. Here it is. I wrote down EVERYTHING that I am eating today except my dinner because I don't know if I will even eat dinner. I get home around 7am sometimes later as I have been working 10 hour shifts everyday for 2 weeks now...so by the time I get home I am tired. HERE IS MY LIST OF CALORIES, and macros Breakfast 1/2 loaded (egg, bacon, cheese, green onion, tomato) salad. (220) 1 TBS lite dressing. (45) lunch 1/2 loaded salad (220) but did not finish it all 1 TBS lite dressing. (45) Snack 1oz almonds, plain (160) 1 premier shake 160 TOTAL 890 Protein 71 Fat 58 Carbs 30 Still is higher in calories than what everyone says I should be eating.
