What has Highest protein content?
JLT1971 replied to Whynotnow's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I use Premier Protein or Muscle Milk 100. Everyone's tastes are different, so you might have to try a few to figure it out. But you are still early...just stay hydrated. Drink what you can, take your time and it will get easier! -
CONGRATS on your surgery. I'm fairly new too. My surgery was 6/1/2015 (My 44th bday!) Welcome!!

41 yrs Mom, 3 boys, Houston, Gastric Bypass 10/8; Self Pay
JLT1971 replied to doggiedaddy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm sorry your insurance isn't covering you. I can understand your concern re: costs. I had some insurance support, so my situation is obviously different, however...I also felt very selfish before going into my surgery and had a lot of guilt. My 2 cents now...you are taking control of your health/life. And if that's selfish than so be it! Your family will be thankful to have you in their life for YEARS to come! Best of luck to you! -
@@EllasMom my pre op liquid diet was 24 hours as well. Every surgeon is different.

You will both be great! You are making a decision for your health that will add years to your life! My surgery was in June. Feel free to message me anytime ????

I am traveling via bus to NYC with my daughter, her team & their families. We will be traveling all day Thursday, arrive in NYC Thursday late afternoon and will be leaving NYC late afternoon Sunday, arriving very late Sunday/early Monday. I am very excited about this trip, but the food part is a little stressful. Background: I am 2 months post op and have been cleared for all food. However, dense meat sometimes is a struggle. Sometimes I have no issues, other times I have major issues. My question to you is this....the coach has the itinerary all laid out and because we will be "on the go" she has provided small meals for everyone. However, most of the meals are things I wouldn't eat...cereal or bagel for Breakfast, pbj or subs (ok I can pick off the meat) for lunches, pizza for dinner, etc. There will be a few evenings that we are on our own, so I will be fine there. But I reach out to you all for just some suggestions-because a high Protein diet I feel like I need a cooler, but cant carry it with me through the city. I'm looking more for ideas as I walk around town. I am still not feeling hunger, and I have reminders in my phone that it's time to eat. So I worry I won't have the right things available. I will bring some pre made shakes and keep them in my fridge for breakfast, and maybe some powder and keep that in my purse as I walk thru town. But I can't just veer off and walk into a restaurant to get food when we are together as a group. I have Protein Bars, but NUT says use them sparingly...and I worry about them melting. I thought I could keep a small bag of nuts in my purse too. Does anyone have suggestions for me? I appreciate your time!

How much weight? How fast?
JLT1971 replied to gpmed's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So here's the breakdown I have from my NUT and how to calculate it: Obtain your Surgery weight & "Ideal body weight" Subtract the two for your Excess weight. Use this equation to determine the % of excess body weight you are loosing: [(pounds lost)/(excess body weight)]x100 Expected weight loss: 2 weeks ~5-10% 6 weeks ~10-15% 3 months ~20-30% 6 months ~45-55% 12 months ~60-70% 18 months ~75-85% -
How about some NSVs!?!?

How soon post-op (RNY) did you try protein bars?
JLT1971 replied to Daisee68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Not losing enough
JLT1971 replied to snickysnack78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there! You are making great progress! I was getting frustrated at week 4 when I sat at 26 lbs lost, then GAINED! I almost stroked out! But I stayed the course and at my 6 week I was told I was ahead % wise of what the "norm" is. Now, 2 months out I'm down 34 from surgery! Just stay focussed! (Did your NUT give you a % breakdown over a 12 month period? If not message me). You can do it!! -
Congrats on your successful surgery! I am 2 months (to the day) and this is the best thing I've done for myself! You will have ups & downs, but just stay the course! I had a stall week 4 that felt like forever...but I overcame it. You will do great!!

JLT1971 replied to KLM1959's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats & good luck! I use muscle milk light. 100 calories, 6 carbs, 1 sugar, 12 protein. I sometimes use OR Whey protein (vanilla icing) in my coffee (25 proteins) ???????????? -
I knew 4th of July weekend could be challenging. We went out to the cottage that we share with my husbands family. I had enough food there for me to be safe as their choices aren't exactly the best. But as I sit with my plate of chicken, green beans and cantaloupe I watch the adults in my life (who are ALL overweight and MIL has RAGING diabetes) pile carbs and carbs and carbs onto their plate. Burger w bun, potato salad, Mac & Cheese, etc etc. Then my FIL buys my daughter a bday cake. Not just a small cake a FULL sheet cake! And THEN he pulls out a homemade pound cake for my SIL with fudge, caramel, etc for toppings. Who does he think is going to eat this?! The whole town? MIL proceeds to eat a piece of sheet cake and then ask for a piece of pound cake with fudge and a scoop of ice cream!!!! I was smart enough to have sugar free vanilla ice cream on hand. But when I mentioned to ANY of them-try my sugar free vanilla with strawberries and sugar free choc sauce-they all were like no I want "that" kind (full sugar). Is it completely unrealistic of me to think with my condition the people around me would get a clue?! Or is it awful for me to be irritated with their horrible choices? I can't even stand being in the same room with them while we are eating. They all eat like it's their last meal and I'm here chewing for days. It's just really irritating to me and I feel bad about it ????

My RNY was June 1st. I am on soft foods and my next appointment w doc is next week. Really hoping I get clearance to add weights at the gym. The last 2 weeks have been up and down on the scale, but I'm at 30 total list from the day of surgery. Everything I read and everyone I talk to says Stay the Course. Walk as much as you can and get your protein in. Hang in there! We CAN do this!!! Good Luck!! ????????
-
Good Luck! You can do this and will be happy you did! For me, the hardest part was feeling like I was so knowledgeable and then getting home and feeling like I knew nothing! And sometimes my food creativity is pretty boring making eating not fun. Use this forum and your doctors. They will help you through it al!! ????

My RNY was June 1. I itch like CRAZY! My ankles, shins and arms mostly. Sometimes my breasts as well. But I am tearing up my legs and arms with scratches. I take a Benadryl when it's really bad but what's going on?
-
Good points maggie409. Thank you!

Glad you are feeling good! Keep those meds pumping-they are a life saver, cuz DANG! I feel really great actually. I'm down 28 from surgery and clothes already are big. I'm back to work and back to the craziness of my family life, so I have to really make a conscious effort to get my walking in. Eating every 3 hours is hard. I am never hungry so in the beginning I was going too long and then getting weak. I set alarms on my new Fitbit so that helps. Do what they tell you while you are there. And waking helps so much! Do your breathing too.

My surgery date was June 1. I'm in soft foods and struggle to get all my Proteins in without depending on my shakes. I'm looking forward to my 6 week check up when he will clear me for weight training. I'm bored with walking....

I had RNY June 1! So far..So good!!
