Thank you both so much! I'll shoot my MD and email, and start drinking more. Greatly appreciated.

I've heard post surgery horror stories about people not tolerating milk postoperative. But if I can handle yogurt, should I be able to handle milk?

Prescribed Diet: To Stick With Or Not To Stick With?

No... I wished (I think! Lol). Not until 6 weeks, then it's puréed only. -
Prescribed Diet: To Stick With Or Not To Stick With?
jm726 replied to jm726's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So glad I'm not the only one!!! It's gotten to the point where eggs make me nauseated. So it's a cruddy edition to just being sick of something. ???? -
4 + weeks out and feeling regretful and hungry
jm726 replied to CAM7579's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I'm only 2 1/2 weeks out, so I don't have much advice on the hunger issue. But I do understand. I find that I'll "eat" and then about two hours later get hungry. That then leads to thoughts and feelings of frustration because I can no longer eat like a "normal" person, and that totally activates my old (and learning to subside) feelings of food addiction. So then I have myself a good old cry-fest! Lol. One of these cry-fest occurred last night... To which I told my husband I knew it would be hard, but not THIS hard. I said I wished I would have just done it on my own... To which (in a loving and supportive manner) my husband reminded me, that the whole reason I decided to do the surgery was because I did try to do it on my own over and over for many years, and needed the surgery to finally help me reach where I've always wanted to be. I also searched the boards and while a good chunk of people were very positive and never regretted a thing... But that wasn't me. So I also found other people who said those feelings of regret were completely normal and they felt the same way, and they were also very emotional in the bringing. So while I'm glad some people don't regret a thing, I highly appreciated those who were open with their feelings of regret...because they helped me to realize it I'm normal after all. So while it's hard now, us "regreters", will come out on the other side. -
I'm 2 1/2 weeks out. My NUT advanced my diet to the following: yogurt, eggs, cheese, refried Beans, puréed chicken/turkey, veggie patties, and turkey sausage crumbles. But everything is making me nauseated, or hurts when I eat it. I'm trying to drink a lot of Fluid...& am not doing great at Protein (again back to the nausea)... Did anyone else experience this? Did it eventually subside? Any tips?

Day 6 post op...stabbing pain when drinking
jm726 replied to OnMyOwnJourney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 2 1/2 weeks out and am still experiencing the same thing. I found my main culprits were cold and too dense of foods. I can only handle things at room temp. -
I'm having the same problem at the present moment... Do you think taking Tums would help?

So as I've perviously posted my NP and I don't always see eye to eye regarding nurse to patient communication... While everyone is different, I don't like being lumped into the "normal" category. Is there really a such thing as consistency when multiple people with varying weight ranges have the "same" surgery...? Anyway! Off that soap box for a moment... I went to my 3 week follow up appointment, which was one day after a full 2 weeks post-op. At my last preop appt (which was like 3 days before my surgery), I weighed 305lbs. At my 3 week follow up I weighed 280lbs. My NP told me that at the point I was at out me at 17%, and they really liked to see patients, who were two weeks out at 20%. At first I was thinking percentage of weight loss...but 20% of total body weight would have been like 60lbs. Does anyone have any idea as to what she was talking about??? What does this percentage mean? And is 25lbs in two weeks not as much as I should have lost? Again... My NP is giving me a major complex...

Normal Range of Weight Loss?
jm726 replied to jm726's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you're correct. Because at my one week post op I went from 305lbs to 291lbs. At this appointment she told me "not to worry, that not everyone loses a lot the first week". I was kinda like... Say whaaaaat? Because I thought that was pretty good? I'm not sure where she's getting her "acceptable" numbers from, but frankly they suck. It's hard enough having life size Barbie (not being rude, it's an accurate description), assess your weight... But to do it condescendingly, well it sucks. Thank you for your kind words and inspiration. -
Normal Range of Weight Loss?
jm726 replied to jm726's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks to everyone for your awesome & supportive replies. I guess ya'll are right that the NP is talking about the percentage of weight lost. However, every time I've gone in there to see this NP, she is sweetly negative or condescending. Even my husband, who's generally a quiet guy, has commented that he thought the NP was being rudely unrealistic. I want to use this surgery as a tool, not going from being food obsessed, to feeling guilty for eating a green bean. I've never been much of an Internet person, but I couldn't making it through this without ya'll. Thanks again. Congratulations! That's amazing! Keep it up! Thank you for being such an inspiration! -
I'm 3 weeks out, and my NUT said I could have a portion of a veggie/soy burger like Boca or Morning Star. I used to eat these as just a regular burger. So my question is when can I add condiments to this? Thanks!

Resume omeprazole anyone?
jm726 replied to Sleevilicious's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a sleeve and hiatal hernia repair. My surgeon said I'd be on Nexium or Prilosec for life postoperative for ulcer prevention. -
Every time I eat refried beans I get a stabbing pain in my stomach, with every single bite. Today was the 2nd time I tried them. I thought maybe the first go was a one time deal...but that was a negative. Anyone else have "painful foods"?
-
They are listed as a week 2 food in my book, and the NUT recommend them. However! I agree with you!!! I'm staying away!

I'm 11 days post op, and over the last few days I've become overwhelmingly exhausted. I get tired doing anything at all... I take vitamins & try to drink the protein shakes. I usually only get in 30g from the shake...& maybe another 15g from the other mushies... I'm getting really depressed & tired. ????
-
I'm on day 3 post-op... OK, so I'm having trouble consuming all the liquid (my program pushes for 80 ounces), in addition to a Protein shake a day. For right now I have to be able to mix a Protein Shake with Water. So it's super hard to take in ALL this liquid... I also can't stand the milk based shakes (chocolate, vanilla, ect), and I can't drink cold Fluid. So I've been using the nectar fruit flavors (fuzzy navel, strawberry kiwi, ect). Is is a bad idea to combine the nectar protein mix into like to shot glasses with water? So it's just enough water to get the required protein down? I did mix it just to see, and wasn't too thick and filled two shoot glasses perfect. Is this a bad idea?
-
Thanks for that info, I ordered them today. I'm having such a hard time getting in the 60 grams of Protein... I'm sick of the shakes (I had to drink them for 6 weeks prior to surgery). And everything else I've tried has a horrible aftertaste. So I'm really crossing my fingers on the stuff you recommend. I got both the Soups and the grape & punch drinks.
-
Buying it today! Lol

I'm 12 days post op. Didn't think about the thickness... I bet ya'll are right though. I guess I've been having so much mental trouble with missing "Normal" food that the beans were a big hit to my brain, but not my stomach. ????
-
I'll check that out! Does the grape have an aftertaste?

What does "feeling full" actually feel like now?
jm726 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a little over a week out, and am on the mushies diet (Greek yogurt, eggs, cheese...). I noticed if I drink something too fast or too thick it hurts, this also goes for the mushies. Is pain the new signal of feeling full? Because I don't feel anything. I have no clue what my personal limit is... I just know it hurts to eat a good chunk of the time. So I purposely hold back on everything, keeping portions small... Well, because I just don't know, what to feel? -

Gall bladder issues - advice sought
jm726 replied to Swampdoggie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's super common to develop gallbladder issues after rapid weight loss and pregnancy. The best thing to do (if it's not functioning) is too remove it. Because honestly, if not now...it will happen in the future. ????. The best thing you can do now is avoid anything hot, spicy, or greasy. A bland diet makes it slightly more tolerable to eat. As far as removal, it's typically done laparoscopic, with 3-5 small incisions. The worst part is that (darn) gas pain, and some people will have shoulder pain. You'll be sore as if you did a bunch of sit ups for a few days, then gradually get back to normal & feel tons better. I wish you the absolute best & a speedy recovery! Hope this helps. ☺️
