@@Salonboi I gotta say, I'm a bit jealous of that! I'm...51? lbs down in 8 weeks out. Feeling good, not really seeing the changes yet, they are subtle but there! So fantastic, 91 and looking great

YOU LOOK FANTASTIC!!!!! Good god... Way to go mister

this makes no sense.
rgodfrey09 replied to glitterpockets's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@glitterpockets I didn't either until my 2 week post op appt and my NUT and surgeon were like "You know you don't need to try and cram all your Protein into one drink RIGHT?! It won't work anyway." I just looked at them like "NOW YOU TELL ME?!" Also, this is kinda gross but make sure you take a softener like Miralax or Colase when you're on liquid Protein. The liquid protein is like concrete for your intestines. If you let it go too far, the outcome is very painful... Another tip I got from the forums that my Dr. didn't tell me! -
this makes no sense.
rgodfrey09 replied to glitterpockets's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was on all liquids, I did 3 premier protein shakes. Your body can only truly absorb 30 grams of protein in an hour, so drinking a shake with much more than 30, the protein is just going right through you. Some days I only did 2 shakes, and just more water but that is still 60 grams of protein in those two shakes. This surgery is a lot about listening to your body, and figuring out what ratio will work right for you. Maybe splitting your protein up into 6 mini shakes will work for you, who knows! Just don't get sucked into giant protein bomb drinks, because your body won't absorb it all so it's just kind of a waste. -
Insurance fraud is a serious crime, you can go to jail for that. So. I'd say don't do it. That being said, everyone says the 6 months diet is the worst and too long, but to be honest this surgery is a complete mindfuck. I'm EXTREMELY glad that I had that 6 month diet to get my mind right and REALLY make sure I was ready. Was a blessing in disguise for me.

Did anyone fake their 6 months supervised weight loss?
rgodfrey09 replied to stephyr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a 6 month stipulation on my insurance as well, but they HAD to be with a doctor or registered dietician. Also I am curious like the others, how is he paying surgery but not copays? He may want to rethink that plan. This is coming from someone who got a nice surprise $18000 bill from the hospital after surgery. -
feeling horrible, 7 wks post op, eating hurts, laxatives suck, acid is back with avengence
rgodfrey09 replied to DavisP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish my surgeon had put me on a softener.... My movements are FAR from normal, and have ended up at 7 weeks out possibly needing another surgery due to them being so hard and excruciating has caused a fissure... WATER AND FIBER AND SOFTENERS PEOPLE! -
How much did you guys lose in the first month?
rgodfrey09 replied to ldean7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not sure why the drama, this is a forum for opinions not a question and answer session. Emtscott offers a very valid opinion, and maybe OP didn't specifically ask for it, but perhaps it will be helpful. Moral of the story, take a chill pill and let OP state if they were offended/put off by the comments instead of immediately jumping to battle. *throws chill pills all around!* To OP! I don't know 1 month, but I started at 394.3 on June 10th and at my 6 week appt on July 22 I was 350.8. So I've lost around 43-44 lbs in 6 weeks. I want to say the first... 25 or so was in the first 2 weeks then I hit a 2.5 week stall in week 3 and stays at 358 from June 29-July 16. It was discouraging, but it's broken and weight dropping slowly now. Disclaimer: 28 year old male that started at a high weight. 6'1 and surgery weight of 394.3 -
@@ebrandon I get them at Vitamin Shoppe, which is nice because you can but single bags and not worry about shipping. Last time, I just ordered a few cases from Quest Nutrition's website because I was buying in bulk, though Vitamin Shoppe will sell in bulk! @@ebrandon I get them at Vitamin Shoppe, which is nice because you can but single bags and not worry about shipping. If you like chips, try Quest protein chips! Great flavor, especially the Cheddar and Sour Cream, and they have 21g protein for 5g net carbs!

Ahhhh that makes more sense then! I had to do 12 months with mine, so if you do have to I can say it actually allowed me to really prepare my mind and body but I can appreciate the anxiousness to do it! Good luck!

Premier is sold at Costco, walgreens(some), Sams club, online... I get it online. Free shipping through Costco website and order in bulk.

Premier Protein premade! No mixing required just grab and go! 30g protein and very low carb

I have Humana through USAA and yeah, my approval took almost 10 months. Sucks, but REALLY helped me mentally prepare.

How much can you eat? (volume/weight wise)
rgodfrey09 replied to SlimJill's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5 weeks out, and can comfortably eat 3-4 ounces of chicken in about 30 minutes or so. -
Ryan, are the discoloration a spotted almost? I had some pretty bad swelling in my legs before surgery that has mostly gone away, but my doctor said the spots wouldn't go away if you find something that works, let me know!!!

As someone who works in the insurance industry, if it isn't covered by the plan you or your work purchased, it isn't covered. I can count on one hand the times we have extended coverage when it wasn't there and every single time was because we made a mistake and informed the person they would be covered only to later turn around and discover that we were wrong and misread the policy. Aside from that, I can't imagine it being overturned and if it was it would be a CEO decision. I don't want to be discouraging but the likelihood is slim to none. Bariatric Pal has a great program in Mexico that a TON of people have posted about having great success with. Good luck on your journey!

Food Scale - do you really need one?
rgodfrey09 replied to jhclikesshopping@gmail.com's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
To be honest, you can get a perfectly fine scale for $25 or less. You should have it in your arsenal of supplies because you NEVER know when you might need it. Personally, I use it for tracking via myfitnesspal and it helps me know EXACTLY how much of everything is going in my body. -
1.5 years out, only 40% loss, Devastated
rgodfrey09 replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@mlfontan You mentioned your carbs are 60-80 grams, have you tried lowering that below 50 grams? Under 50gm should kick your body into ketosis and may jump start that loss again. -
Anyone using My Fitness Pal app to track know how to do Net Carbs? It keeps telling me everytime I eat a Quest bar that I've gone over my carb goal as I have it set at 30g carbs per day, but I'm wanting to track net carbs instead of total. Anyone know?

Thank you! Unfortunately some of the settings in there require you to upgrade to premium @@zonetracy @@foodfighter78 I do 65% Protein, 20% fat, and 15% carbs but my NUT helped me set them up for what works for me. Basically as long as I get my protein over 60G a day and carbs under 30G then she is happy

No Wonder I Wasn’t Skinny!
rgodfrey09 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Being from Texas, our household consisted of a lot of southern food and of course Tex-Mex was a staple. For those that do not know, Tex-Mex is a version of Mexican food that consists of a delicious flavors with full fat cheese, gravies, sour cream, and of course fluffy flour tortillas. As a family, we ate Mexican every Sunday afternoon after church as that was the thing to do in my town as well as at least one other time per week. With three kids all running in different directions, fast food happened at least once or twice a week for my mom's sanity. The rest of the time was southern food with full fat butter, cheese, delicious gravies, fried foods, bacon, and all other kinds of culinary sins that would scintillate the taste buds and add inches to your waist. Am I surprised I ended up finishing high-school at 250lbs and then topped out 10 years later at just over 400? Not at all, because I didn't know anything about healthy eating until I took a Nutrition course my senior year. I saw all these people eating the same things as me and maintaining their trim figures and I always wondered how they did it, but I was pretty confident for being the 400lb guy in the room. After taking that Nutrition course and learning all about the macros and what our bodies need, I started really taking a look at making changes to myself. Now I have been sleeved some years later and have very few regrets so far! I am 4 weeks out tomorrow, and have been stalled for about a week and a half after losing 30 lbs in the first 2.5 weeks. I'm keeping my Protein over 60G a day and net carbs under 30 which were my NUTs instructions, so hopefully we will break through this stall soon! -
Any guys using MyFitnessPal? I just started a couple of days ago, and definitely do not think I'm getting in enough calories. I struggle to get over 400-500 along with all my Water. I'm eating very Protein dense, clearing about 60G a day on average. Any other guys using this app so I can see what you're eating would be a big help! My username is RickyReality on there, and also on Instagram @ VSG_Rich

I'm sorry they judged you;( that's terrible! I had to use 1 week of my own PTO and then short term disability kicked in for the remaining weeks 2-6. I think my boss was so nice about it because I gave her 10 months warning when I had my first surgeons consult and we talked about my progress each month after until I got dates. I hope all is good now that you're back to work!
