    day 2 post op emotions

Brandon, I had my rny 8 weeks ago Friday. I went though the exact same emotions. I cried a lot, doubted my decision, and wondered when I would be normal again. Thank God for my family and friends who were so supportive and reassuring during that time. Right after surgery, your hormones are all out of whack, your body is still dealing with the effects of anesthesia, all while you're physically recovering from a major surgery. If you're like me, food was always my comfort and it was so hard to not be able to turn to food during that time. However, as you progress through the food stages, you will feel so much better! You'll be surprised how good puréed food can be. :-) I'm praying that you feel better soon!
  2. Tomorrow I can start on soft foods and finally stop pureeing everything! What are your favorite foods at this stage?
  3. Was anyone else just plain exhausted after surgery? I'm 17 days post op and feeling pretty good except for feeling exhausted and worn out whenever I try to do anything. Yesterday I went to church and was going to go to the grocery afterwards but just couldn't do it. Today I went to the grocery, carried my groceries in and I am absolutely done for the day. When does this get better? I was thinking about helping with VBS next week but am worried I won't be able to make it.

    I'm so tired.....

It took me about 4 weeks as well to stop feeling completely exhausted. Up until then, taking a shower could be my one activity for the day.
  5. I'm one week post-op and have been finding myself crying at the drop of a hat, very anxious, and doubting my entire decision to have surgery. I live alone and not leaving the house since I've been home hasn't helped. Please tell me that these are normal emotions and they will go away soon. I'm going to have my mom come stay with me for awhile so I'm not feeling so alone. I so badly want to feel normal again!

    Emotional Wreck

@@stylewiz35 and anyone else who is struggling right now: I'm now 24 days post op and feeling so much better than when I starting this thread. Initially, I was so emotional and time has really been the cure for that. I took each day as it came and everyday got better. I promise things will improve and you will be feeling better soon!

    Food Serving Size

I'm 3 weeks post op and my program has us eating 1/2 - 3/4 c at each meal and 1/2 c at each snack (eating 5 times a day). I haven't been able to eat 5 times a day nor get up to 3/4 c. 1/2 c is pretty normal for me.

    Puréed stage

I'm 3 weeks post op today and have been on puréed food since Sunday. Some things I've had are refried beans with some cheese melted on top, puréed tuna and egg salad, ricotta cheese with some marinara and cheese on top, as well as various puréed fruits and veggies. All have gone well. It's amazing though how little it takes to feel full.

    Slimies

    Papaya enzyme works well too.

    Slimies

When something gets stuck, our body produces this mucous like substance (slime) in an attempt to get the food to go down. I'm way to familiar with this from having the lapband but thankfully have not experienced it since my revision.
  11. I heat the beans right out of the can and just add a little shredded cheese. If the beans are too thick for you, you could add broth to thin them out. When I do scrambled eggs, I cook them, put them in the food processor with either some shredded cheese or a wedge of laughing cow cheese and blend. I can't have straight scrambled eggs until next week when I start soft foods.
  12. I've been blending mine mine. My plan says no "chunks."
  13. I have not experienced any hunger since surgery. I'm trying to eat something every 2-3 hours.

    Drain

Mine took about two days to scab over.
  15. Hi there! I had my surgery just three days before you on 6/19. I graduated to puréed foods Sunday. It's been great to finally eat food again; really anything other than the protein shakes! I've been trying something new everyday. Some things I've had are refried beans with some cheese melted on top, puréed tuna and egg salad, ricotta cheese with some marinara and cheese on top, as well as various puréed fruits and veggies. All have gone well. It's amazing though how little it takes to feel full.

No energy 3 weeks post op

I had my surgery on June 19th and am feeling good except for the exhaustion piece. I went to church yesterday and had planned on going to the grocery store afterwards but just couldn't do it. Today I made it to the grocery, carried in the bags and then was completely done for the day. I'm wondering how long this lasts.

    TODAY'S THE DAY

Best of luck! You'll do great!
  18. My surgeon has me on an acid reducer for at least six months following surgery. I've been having some acid reflux since surgery so he switch prescriptions to a stronger one and it's helped.

    Heartburn?

I can't pinpoint what specifically is causing it. I feel it a lot when I'm lying down. I have my post op appointment tomorrow and will ask about it.
  20. Has anyone else experienced heartburn right after surgery? I'm 10 days post op and have been having heartburn off and on. My surgeon put me on Pepcid before I left the hospital but I'm still having these symptoms. I'm finding myself popping a tums hear and there to help. Why would this be happening if there's no acid in my new stomach?

    Emotional Wreck

That's what I'm hoping for too! Just to expand my diet from these damn protein shakes would be enough. You would think I would remember that it gets better since I've done this before with the lapband. I think this surgery is just so much harder. @ Did the drain removal hurt? I'm kind of scared but so want it out! The area where the drain goes in is sore so that's why I'm worried that it's going to hurt when they pull it out.

    Emotional Wreck

Thank you for all the encouragement. When my anxiety kicks in, I tend to think of all the bad things that can happen. Logically, I know things will get better and I'll have my energy back soon, but it's hard to convince my brain of that. I have my post-op visit Wednesday where I'll have my drain removed (thank goodness) and get to move to puréed foods. I'm looking forward to that and hoping it helps lift my mood a bit.
  23. I'm finding the same thing. No matter what I eat or drink, I get this weird after taste left in my mouth. It's really frustrating.
  24. I'm so sorry your hospital experience was not what you were expecting. I had a band to bypass revision on the 19th and I feel like we're going through a lot of the same stuff. Surgery took longer than normal because my band had become "part of me" and my doc had to really work to get the port out. That is where I have my drain. I'm most sore on my left side (that's where I was told the doc does most of his work. Other than that pain, the gas pain has been the worst. My back is killing me and it's so hard to get comfortable. I desperately want to lay on my side! I am finding that every day I am feeling better though. All this pain is temporary and we'll get through it!
  25. Thanks, Brian! Surgery for me is Friday the 19th. I'm very nervous but ready to get this behind me and start moving forward. Best of luck to everyone having surgery this week as well!
