I had gastric bypass (RnY) in February, 2015, and while I did lose weight, and my diabetes type 2 A1C level did lower down to the mid 7's, even with the weight loss and several different medical regimens, I couldn't get it down further. My Dr. started me on Ozempic in March, 2023, and I moved up to the 2 mg level by June of that year. While I did lose a bit more weight, the big thing was that my A1C dropped down to 5.6, below pre-diabetic level (!). However, I did go through the usual gastric issues with Ozempic, but mainly a bit of Constipation. I supplemented my diet with additional Fiber capsules and one Colace capsule daily (I had taken Colace after the gastric bypass, to make the stools softer) and this seems to work just fine, and no more issues. I know it's OK to take additional fiber (I'm not exceeding the recommended dosage of 5 capsules twice daily) but wondering about the Colace, if it will cause issues long-term. My Dr. says it shouldn't, but has anyone had issues with taking it long-term? Thanks!

Medical Marijuana Edibles After Gastric Bypass (RnY)
Avign0n10 posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I'm prescribed MM for diabetic neuropathy pain, and got both tinctures and edibles and they do quell the pain and burning enough to allow me to have a restful sleep. Taking the same amount with both, the edibles are way less effective, so...I'm thinking I can no longer process them correctly due to my bariatric surgery? Does anyone have any experience with this or know that this is a fact? Thanks. -
Medical Marijuana Edibles After Gastric Bypass (RnY)

Thanks all. While I did have gastric bypass in 2015, and pretty much aware of my issues with digesting some things, I just started MM last month, so...had no experience with this. The edibles are gummies, and I've tried both chewing them up and swallowing, or just keeping in my mouth as they dissolve and get the same results. At my next prescription renewal, I'm going to get all tincture, with no edibles. -
Last Sunday around 0100 in the morning, my wife heard a noise, went down to my home office, and I was passed out on the floor, having hit my head when I fell. She couldn't rouse me, so called 911, and when the paramedics came, they checked my blood glucose, and it was down to 55 (!). I was taken to the ER, given IV glucose, and then orange juice and peanut butter and crackers and it finally got up to 95, and they released me. I had RnY in Feb, 2015, at Rose Medical Center, Denver, CO, by Dr. Michael Snyder. Prior to that, I had Type II diabetes, and was on a lot of drugs. I lost 110 lbs the first year, and was able to go off all meds except for metformin. My A1C checked on my anniversary date (along with all the other blood checks) has been 6.0-6.1, so, I figured I was doing OK. However, now I read that some patients can get hypoglycemia 1-5 years after surgery...and am worried that's my issue. How common is this, and, other than eating next to no carbs, what can I do about it? I've been very active after I lost the weight, walking 2 miles daily, and even have a personal trainer twice weekly, so...thought all was good. Thanks! Bill

Stricture repair not working?
Avign0n10 replied to Avign0n10's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Heard that, but--within the same day? -
Had RNY on 2/10/2015 and have lost 57 lbs, and was doing good until about three weeks ago, when eating any kind of solid food, it seemed like it just wouldn't go down, lot of burping, hiccuping, reflux (no vomiting--have never vomited, have gotten queasy a few times). Dr. thought it was a stricture, so I had an endoscopy this morning, and sure enough had a very narrow opening, and they widened it with a balloon. Had no pain (was out for procedure) and went home, and was doing liquid Protein, but they said I could have soft foods for a few days, then go back to normal eating. I just tried 1/4 cup of refried Beans...and got the problem all over again--would it have closed up again in less than a day?
