I had my surgery 8/3, don't know if I can be much assistance, since I am only 1 month ahead of you, but any questions, feel free to ask
-
On my plan we are allowed triscuits and ak-mok crackers at 6 weeks. I try to keep it at a minimum, don't really want to get back on those carbs, but I do occasionally indulge, it's great for something crunchy.

At what point can you have mashed potatoes?

I was allowed during pureed stage week 3 -
Well here I am 2 months today since getting the sleeve, where does the time go. I remember debating over this, mostly with myself for over 3 years, before deciding to do it. I must say, I have told anyone and everyone, and not one person has been unsupportive. I had someone tell me yesterday I looked great and they were jealous they have not had the nerve to do it, felt good, I gotta admit. I am still disappointed in my slow weight loss, and even the surgeon unexpectedly called me yesterday, and said he knew at the last appointment I was upset the weight loss was so slow, but he still thinks slow and steady is best. I am down 22lbs since surgery, and 37 lbs with preop. I thought I would be about 10lbs more by now. I am doing all I can, I do not stray from the plan. I am trying to up the Protein, and the Water. I also signed with a trainer, as recommended by the doc, to start strength training. I love reading this forum, it really helps and I try to read some each day. Thanks to everyone for their support and encouragement through some other posts I made regarding the slow weight loss. Hopefully I will catch up to those who seem to lose alot faster then I am, and as the doc said, 11lbs a month is good, and in 1 year, that will be too much. I will keep reading and posting, best therapy out there. Good luck to everyone on their journey.

I am 57, 2 months out today for the sleeve and have bone on bone in both knees. I have been walking in pool and riding bike. Not even naproxen helped any longer, so now I take nothing, and believe me sometimes the pain is unbearable. I need 2 total knees and that is part of why I had the sleeve, I did not want to out 268lbs on 2 new knees, so hopefully will lose enough weight to have at least one knee done early next year. I have had every injection you cn think of to both knees and I am done with the injections, even PRP twice, and they say there is nothing better then that. Hopefully you can walk in pool, find an indoor one like the Y, as now cooler weather is coming or ride a stationary bike. It is so much better to have the sleeve first then the knee done, or you will not want too much weight on the new knee. Good luck,

That's how I feel this AM. The weight loss is soooo slow, I can barely stand it. I am following the food plan exactly, drinking my Water, not as much as 64oz, I try, and getting in my Protein for sure. Riding my bike and walking in the pool, have 2 bad knees. I plan on weight training next week. I am 7 1/2 week out and since surgery 8/3, I have only lost 20lbs, with preop 35lbs. Yes I am grateful and grateful for the sleeve, but I feel like the slowest loser, especially reading everyones successes, and feel like a failure. Doc says slow and steady is best, but this is ridiculous. I really need some feedback, Anything, thanks. I have posted this before, but now I am really scared that it has not picked up like I had hoped.

I seem to be on an 8 week stall. Anyone else experience this and how did you break it. I have been losing weight so slowly as it is, now on a 3 day stall. Tried increasing Protein, increasing calories, and increasing carbs, but nothing working. any suggestions would be helpful, thanks

That post above was not meant for the person that started this post it was meant for the gentleman that answered, and as you can see he says he is 167lbs preop and 6 feet, seems very strange
-
I know I might be getting personal here, but are you really having a procedure. What man, or woman who is 6 feet has a goal of 100lbs and what is QLD. Why at 167lbs and a bmi of 22 would you even be having any type of weight loss surgery. are these just entry mistakes, or why would you be on here. I apologize if I have offended you in any way, but this sounds awful fishy to me, anybody else.

I take lexapro and it is a pill so it can be crushed. There are so many SSRI's you need to ask your doc to switch you to one that can be crushed, or a liquid. good luck
-
I was told to take benefiber 3 x day, and i put it in sunsweet light prune juice, which adds more fiber, but if loose stool to back off. I try to take it 2 x day, but sometimes I do need the miralax. good luck

Wow, made it to the other side. I am now a post sleever. Had surgery Monday. Honestly Monday was not a good day, it was because of the anesthesia, and that was my 3rd surgery. Never reacted like that. It was hard to wake up, but I did, pain not bad, nausea not bad. Just got home. Drinking my Protein shake and will drink more Water, sips of course. It has really helped reading this website. Thanks guys, any other August, or September sleevers, please feel free to ask any questions. I am one of those who never thought I would do this, still feels a little unreal.

Artificial Sweeteners
sbg224 replied to sbagby1960's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hear the best is Stevia, most natural. I am trying to stay away too, makes me hungry -
Theres a fish that doesn't taste or smell like fish called orange roughy. It's a mild flaky white fish. You can just put it in a pan with some butter, not real butter, whatever it is they let you have or a little olive oil, some salt, pepper and lemon, lemon always helps with the fish taste, and cook maybe 6-7 minutes, and thats it. Moist and flaky. I love seafood, so I like shrimp, mussels, salmon my favorite, but for a none fish person, or flounder, is good too, but unfortunately out here in California we do not have flounder, don;t know why, but I am a NYC girl and flounder was great back east.

I am finally in the 30's with my BMI, 39.8, and excited. So not sure if that is or is not an NSV, but I'll take it. I know I post how slow my weight loss is, and still feeling it could be better, but excited BMI is in the 30's. I think when I first started, May 2014 my BMI was 49. I did my 6 month requirement for the insurance, which finished in Nov 2014, but had a work injury on my knee and fractured my wrist, so took a break from the program, then started up again April 2015 and finally had the surgery 8/3. Thanks to everyone for their responses, and I love reading these posts and everyones experiences.

Thanks guys, all you said makes me feel better. I am on 2 bp meds and an antidepressant, so maybe those are issues too. I have been on them 4-5 years. I am finally going to see the nut 10/9, maybe she will have some insight. Thanks again.

You do have to do what you feel is best for you. I tell everyone and anyone I see, that I know of course. If you have negative comments, you know where they go, in 1 ear and out the other. I usually care about what people say, but it is easier to tell then not. If you have never had a weight issue, or eating disorder, then you have no idea, so if you have negative things to say, then who cares. So far not 1 person has been negative or unsupportive.

Dilemma - What would you do?
sbg224 replied to Tobeornottobe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just know this is just my opinion. Are you kidding, you have no obligations to these insurance companies, they are the biggest ripoffs out there. You need to do what is best for you and your monetary status and health status. You, or the job pays the premiums, that's what matter, You are not cheating anyone. If it is best to drop your insurance, then just do it, believe me you are just a number to them, they do not know who you are and they don't care. Do what;s best for you and your husband. -
I feel the same way, I am 7 weeks today and with pre-op I am only down 34 lbs, I know we are all different, but I was hoping and expected maybe 45-50lbs by now or at 2 months out for sure. Doc said slow and steady is best, good luck. why some people lose the weight faster, who knows, body composition, starting weight, hormones, how many times you/we have lost the weight and gained, many factors, I am told.

I know quite a few people say it is acid, head hunger, even my doc said it was thirst. I am on an acid reducer, not thirsty and yes maybe some is head hunger, I just do not give into the cravings, but this hunger is real to us. I had hunger from day 3 or 4 and it has remained and I am 7 weeks out tomorrow. I just try to eat Protein, always first, and use it as a snack if I need to. I find very little protein helps stop the hunger at least for a few hours, then I just eat more protein first, veggies second and fruits 3rd. I find having a Protein shake first thing in AM, helps the hunger for the day, I like premier shakes. All I can say is thank goodness for the sleeve, or I would probably be back to my old ways. The best thing to do right now is stick to your docs list of food, don't stray and make bad choices and the sleeve will guide the hunger and satisfaction.

I had the same thing and it was horrible, and I still have it now almost 7 weeks post op. I was told to use benefiber, prune juice and miralax, and they do work, and a plain glycerin suppository if needed, it sounds like a lot, but it works.
-
I am 6 1/2 weeks post op and have been hungry since day 2, and having cravings. I totally expected not to be hungry and certainly not have cravings but they are real.. some people say it is acid or I am thirsty, but I do not think so. So i guess there are some of us who are hungry and some of us who are not. Good luck, just try to eat right, I do not eat anything off the list I have from my surgeon and right now I stick between 700-800 calories and always Protein first.

unbelievable pain, please read
sbg224 replied to sbg224's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks I will. I did take temp last night and this AM, so far normal. He also fixed a hiatal hernia, but on call doc said it had nothing to do with that. It is just weird, sometimes I forget I have the sleeve. After last night it was a big reminder and how we need to take care of it. -
Originally we were told not to take pills for 3 months, they had to be crushed. Sleeved 8/3. Last week surgeon said I could swallow my pills as 1 tastes so bitter, hard to get down. I took pills around 10pm, a little latter then usual. I had been having some discomfort in left shoulder and left side of neck. I also told this to surgeon last week, and he said it is uncommon, but he sees it alot. I got this horrendous pain around 11-30pm, and it was bad, under breast area. If I had a gallbladder I would have sworn it was an attack. I was terrified. I got up, got dressed and figured off to ER. I woke husband up, he got dressed and just waited. I thought gas, so took some different things, nothing was helping. I called on call doc, and he felt it was not serious and I had just irritated the sleeve, particularly with the medications. He said go back to crushing my pills and chew, chew, chew. I still feel sore, and will call doc office today, he is usually in surgery, but maybe I can speak with nurse. Just wondering has anyone else ever experienced anything like this. This pain after 6 weeks out, or later. So scary and just wanted also to let everyone know how this can happen, and be aware of it. Always call your doc office if you get a pain, and don't do like me and rush things. I do tend not to chew like I did weeks 3 and 4. Will go back to some basics. Thanks for listening, I would love some ideas and comments.

i am 6 weeks out now and lost 31 lbs, and that is including preop diet, sleeved 8/3. Very slow weight loss for me, good luck with yours. And i am so sticking to the plan, frustrating.
