    Constipation !

My constipation issue is bad. I use benefiber 2-3 x day, prunes at night and sunsweet light prune juice, 1/2 cup every night. If it does not get moving I take miralax. I don't want to live on laxatives, all of the above were recommended by my surgeon. Smooth move tea, I hear is great, but have not tried it. I really like to try and stay with the natural stuff first if at all possible. Good luck

    Food amounts

I was sleeved 8/3 and I concentrate on the Protein, 80-100 gms a day, 800-1000 calories a day, 64ounces of liquid, I do not always meet that, it is hard, and low sugar, low fat. am following the program. I do not eat full meals, except for dinner, a shake for Breakfast, cheese, or salad and hard boiled egg for lunch, tuna 5 oz, sometimes mixed with egg and small amounts of light mayo. Snack afternoon, sometimes yogurt and cottage cheese, and then my dinner, 4-5oz of protein, and veggies, sometimes a snack at night 1 tsp of cashew butter, sometimes prunes. I have lost including preop 42 lbs, which I think should be more, I work out and strength train,4-5 days a week, so I am doing all I can. Good luck hope some of this helps.
  4. Good luck to you guys. I was sleeved 8/3. The preop was so hard, only 1 week, and we were allowed 1 meal a day with 3 Protein shakes, then 2 days of Clear liquids only. The good thing is the post op liquid diet is so, so much easier, because you have the sleeve to help you.
  5. I love people that love animals. I have 4 dogs, 2 big, 2 small. I worried too when I first got home, especially the big ones and they like to jump, 80lbs each. I just had to stay away from them for about 2 weeks, thank goodness my husband takes care of them, lets them in and out and feeds them. One of the smaller ones loves to lay on you and be cuddled, I just had to be careful. Cats too, but had 2, both got cancer, tried to save them, lots of money but didn't work, so said no more cats for now, besides one of the big ones would not do well with a cat. They are therapy for sure, have had dogs my whole life, they are family.

    New to fifties group

Hi I am Susan and just noticed this forum. I am 57 years old and had my sleeve 8/3 of this year. With preop I am down 42lbs and 27lbs since surgery. I feel like I am losing the weight very slowly, but I am sticking to my plan and doc says slow and steady is good. I get discouraged sometimes, but I keep telling myself, doc did his part and I am doing mine and that's all we can do. I cannot help comparing myself to others weight loss sometimes. I am getting in my Protein, exercising and have a trainer 2 x week, and get in as much liquids as I can. Good luck to all of us

    Post op struggle.

Well there is a plan in place for a reason. No rice, bread or Pasta for 6 months, that's my plan and I know alot of others on here have that plan also. There is a reason we need to stick to the plans we are given. So in my opinion, yes it is a big deal to eat pasta, even if you are getting in your Protein, unless the doc tells you it is OK. I am not trying to lecture or scold and I hope it does not come off that way, but if you read often on this site, you can see the successful people tell you, stick to your plan.
  8. I take bariactiv Vitamins, they are chewable and they recently started making me nauseous and hungry. They are so sweet, I cannot stand them, but know I have to take them, and the big thing is they are paid for by my insurance. VSG 8/3. I go to a support group and they are going to have a representative come from the Vitamin patch company. Just wondering if anyone uses the vitamin Patches that took the chewables prior and if you notice any difference. I guess it would be hard to tell, except maybe with lab work. I am not due to have lab work until January. I really feel the need to switch to something other then chewable, even if I have to pay for it, any advice is appreciated.

    Book recommendations

The support group I go to recommended Straight talk from a post op and a doc, pretty good and now reading Losing It by Anne Andrews, seems OK, and Skinny Jeans at last, have not read yet.
  10. I had the sleeve, so cannot offer anything, but just want to say Good luck, hope you do well.

    What's for dinner?

Since surgery I make easy dishes in the crockpot. I love i can get it all prepared in the AM and then come home in PM and dinner is done. I made chicken breasts last night, just added some chicken broth, tomatoes, and cream of mushroom Soup, and done in 6 hours on low. Made rice, but not for me, and add spinach, or Beans sometimes, last night were some beans. Another recipe I like, chopped turkey meat, brown meat, add tomatoes, black beans and you make tacos, for me just the meat without the tacos, side salad, easy fast. I love to try new things, healthy of course.
  12. Yes I had it too, and now sometimes I still get it, 8 weeks out. Doc said it is unusual but common and not to worry about it. It happens when I eat and get full.

    Planet Fitness?

Go to the gym, and ask for a tour and try the machines. I have a membership at one, I m in CA. I do not go regularly because I have a trainer at a small gym so I use their equipment. You can get a one day free pass on line, good luck

    Small bougie

I don't have a clue, I think I will ask next doc visit. All I know is he said he removed 85% of my stomach.
  15. I too worry about my weight everyday and weigh everyday. The scale has not moved for 2-3 days, I start to panic, and right away blame myself for eating too much, too little, too much fat, too many carbs, you can drive yourself crazy. I keep thinking how can I be eating half or more then half of what I used to and not lose more weight. I was sleeved 8/3 and am down 24lbs, 39 with preop, and I feel it should be more. The doc and NUT say I am doing good, so I have to believe in them right now. I just tell myself, the doc did his part, and I am following the plan, and that's all that can be done right now. So many people on this forum say it will come, some slower then others, and I just have to believe in them too. Good luck.
  16. I am on this forum everyday and just noticed this one. I have been an RN for 33 years, most f that in home health care, and a manger of a home health agency fr 5 years. Never want to be a manager again. I had a work injury May of 2014 and have not been back to work since. I had to have surgery on my wrist last November, and now awaiting approval, or denial of a left total knee. I was sleeved on 8/3/2015, and to date with preop have lost 26lbs. Slow at losing weight, get discouraged, but doc says slow and steady is the best way. I know we are all different, but I see so many losing alot more weight in the same amount of time, and they cheat. I have not strayed from the plan. I just feel the surgeon did his part, and I am doing mine and that's all that can be done at the present time. Since 7/16, I have lost 39 lbs. Nice to read about everyone, and good luck to all of us. I am from NY but now live in Southern California.
  17. Yoplait Greek 100 yogurts, are the best. Discovered the apple pie flavor, it tastes just like apple pie, try some

    Is it Depression?

I think our expectations are much higher before surgery, that the weight will just melt off very quickly, at least that was mine. I was sleeved 8/3 and have lost 24 lbs, which I am grateful for but thought I would be ahead 10 or 12 lbs. Doc says slow and steady is best. Total I am down with pro-op 39lbs, but again thought it would have been more by now. No one that I have not seen in a while as even noticed, or at least they said nothing so I feel upset. I just keep telling myself, the surgeon did his part, I am doing mine by eating well, and so very little compared to before and then let it take its course. People on here are very encouraging and that does help, good luck
  19. I like the premier shakes as they are pre mixed and 30gms per serving. You can buy them on line especially through amazon or drugstore.com. Bariatric Advantage is a powder, and you can use to mix your own shakes, lots of ice, you can add fruits and veggies if allowed on your plan. I had ice pops, no sugar added everything, applesauce, Jello, clear Soups, and later down the line creamed soups. If you have trader Joe's, Whole foods, or Sprouts, they have better choices for you, even Ralphs has some more variety, thats here in California. I was on Clear liquids plus shakes 1st week, then full liquids for 1 week, which means you can add creamy stuff, like soup, then weeks 3 and 4 were pureed, but I never did really puree in a blender just chew, chew, chew. eggs, soft things. Then week 5 we could eat fish, chicken, vegetables. I know I am getting a little off track. Good luck
  20. I am finally in the 220's. This AM 229, but out of the 230's. Still losing the weight slowly in my opinion, but every little bit counts. I am weight training now 2 x week, so we will see how the scale goes, hopefully the clothes will tell all.

  22. I am very slow at losing the weight also. Doc says slow and steady is the best way to go, I am totally sticking to the program, and my sleeve prevents me from overeating. As other people on this forum say, it will happen, you will catch up, even if it takes a year. I am trusting in the process, I really thought I would be at least 10 more lbs ahead by now, but I am not. The surgeon did his part, I am doing mine and that's all we can do, good luck.

    Clear liquid post-op

I was looking forward to not being hungry ether, but the day after surgery there it was. Now some people say it is head hunger, acid reflux, or thirst, but this is real hunger. The good thing is when you eat the sleeve stops you from over eating, which of course many of us had and got us to the obese stage. The thing to really make sure of is not to eat the wrong things, always Protein first, and you get full so fast the hunger is gone, but it does come back in about 2 hours, I just make sure I make good choices and don't overeat. I am 2 months and 1 week post op sleeve. Good luck, it is a daily chore.
  24. Hi Linaka, my name is Susan, just wondering where do you live, I am in Orange county. I had the sleeve done 8/3. I met with Dr. Feiz office and was very disappointed, there was supposed to be a seminar and there was none, and they kept me waiting 40 minutes for nothing. How did you like him. I am not surprised there is no after support, but they told me there was. I did hear he is a good surgeon, but I decided to go somewhere else. I can give you some tips on support if you tell me where you live.
  25. I do not know what insurance you have, but you should tell doc you want to be referred to a wound specialist, it can be a nurse, does not have to be a doctor, but get a handle on it now before it gets worse. You should not have to do the wound care management yourself. I have been a homecare RN for over 20 years, and I have seen these wounds before, and seeing a nurse who specializes in this is best. Maybe you qualify for a nurse to go to your home, ask your insurance and then demand from doc he writes prescription for it., just my opinion, good luck, they can get worse quickly.
