Question about initial weight loss
sbg224 replied to Shane Johnson's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Did you have the sleeve, what is your starting weight, and height, it helps to better answer some of these questions the more info we have. Yes I am hungry all the time and was hungry from day 2. I can eat 1200 calories, but I stick closer to 1000. I had the sleeve 8/3, started out 253.5, as of today 218, so it is good and I am very thankful but feel like I am a slow loser with the weight, and the doc agrees but said it is the best way to lose, slow and steady. I think at 3 weeks I was also at about 5lbs down. It is true Protein, protein and more protein, and the closer to 64oz of liquid the better. I get my protein, but not always the liquids, could be better. Just keep plugging away, I say the doc did his part, I am doing mine and that;s all we can do, good luck. -
Embarrassing Question - Managing Enuresis in the Hospital?
sbg224 replied to wwboy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
OK take it from me, I am a nurse over 30 years. Yes we have seen and done it all, and we much rather know. To us it is just another part of the patients history and diagnosis. To you I can understand the embarrassment, but that's not how we think of it, just something we look at as another work day. I do think you should stick to your routine of what you wear to bed and bring your own supplies, just in case they do not have what you are used to or like. It really is no big deal, good luck -
I just want to wish you all the best and hope they find a solution and you heal up fast. Good luck, keep us updated

I am 3 months 1 week out and I have eaten steak and was down almost a pound the next day so doubt it was that. It was probably Water weight due to that time of the month, I used to gain 4-5 lbs sometimes, glad I do not have them any longer, although menopause isn't fun. Anyway stay away from salt for sure. You can try broth with added Protein, if you crave chocolate, I like sugar free pudding, good luck, but I do have hunger too

I understand what you mean, we are told no liquids 30 minutes before and 30 minutes following a meal, yet soup is liquid. Never thought about it, you really brought up a good point. I was able to eat cream soups, maybe that is the difference. Let us know what your NUT says and I will ask mine.

Surgery Aborted (Please help)...
sbg224 replied to SalOdyssey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We have all lost weight, maybe not as much as that, but my problem as many others are keeping it off. It will be fantastic if you lose that much, but will you be able to keep it off. This surgery is just as much about keeping off the weight as it is losing the weight, just my opinion. I think you should get another opinion, but go with the surgeon that you feel connected with. -
Yesterday my whole schedule was out of whack. We went to the OAC meeting in LA, good but very poor turnout. I was off on my food schedule, Vitamins, etc. They had free food, fruit, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, etc, so I ate, and a little while later ate again, I could not stop, just like I used to do before sleeve 8/3 of this year. Was full but managed to eat twice while we were there for about 3 hours. Later that day I was so hungry, have been hungry since week 2, yes I get all my liquids, Protein 100gms or more and vitamins, and pepcid, cannot take a PPI. I snacked in afternoon on some cheese and triscuits, we are allowed to have them. Anyway what was worse we went to dinner and I soooo overate, just kept shoving in the salmon, chicken and some veggies, all good stuff, but this was the first time I really thought it was coming back up. Still feel full this AM. Does anyone else do this and how do you stop. I am so grateful for my sleeve, but yesterday it felt like it was not 100% working. Feel depressed and so guilty, any comments or suggestions will be very much appreciated.

I have used Bariatric Advantage Protein powder for quite a while, expensive, any Protein Powder will do, but i happen to like this one, was sleeved 8/3/15, and i have the nutribullet. I use that with ice, milk, Water, and fruit, usually blueberries. I know some people mix the powder with Peanut Butter, a banana, sometimes I use spinach, it just depends on my mood. I like the iced latte flavor as it tastes like coffee, and the chocolate is really good too.

I am 3 months out, but to make sure I get my Protein I put a scoop of GENEPRO powder in my yogurt, which is usually my afternoon snack. It does not change the taste at all to me, and between that and my premier Protein shake for Breakfast, that's 60gms. I am now at 80-100gms, but by lunchtime I am more then halfway there, just a suggestion.
-
Thanks everyone, today thank goodness I am really not hungry and have hardly been eating, but I did get 60gms of Protein so far, 1 premier shake and unflavored GENEPRO with some yogurt, and then dinner should give me my 80-100gms The reason I cannot take a PPI is because prior to my surgery I had SIBO, which can come from using a PPI for an extended time. I really should not even take pepcid, but since it is not a PPI it seems to be OK and works just as well.

"Re-sleeving surgery?" Is that really a "thing?"
sbg224 replied to WLSResources/ClothingExch's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In the support group I go to there was a woman that said she was going to have her sleeve revised, and I did not get a chance to ask her what that meant. I will have to ask doc next time, just curious, although it makes me nervous that it may be needed down the road, I just try not to think about it, I am only 3 months out, and just do what I have to right now, Protein and fluids. I did a bit of overeating yesterday, so today not really hungry or eating much at all. -
I have a notebook, but I also text myself with questions or things to remember for doc appointments, and most of us always have our phones with us. I asked how many surgeries had he done, any leaks, how long does surgery take. I wanted the sleeve, so I made sure we were on the same page and he agreed. First question he asked me was, why did I went surgery. The answer they are looking for is to get healthy, they do not want to hear, things like I want to wear a bikini. Good luck

What the heck does this mean?!
sbg224 replied to freemommy×4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not have a pain pump either. I had an IV in the whole time I was there, 2 nights, so they just gave me pain meds every 6 hours thru the IV, don't even worry about it, it should have nothing to do with having the surgery, good luck -
Sleeved Oct 13 just now having nausea
sbg224 replied to ShellygirlSD's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
When I got nauseous after 4-5 weeks, doc said I was dehydrated, and to drink pedialyte for 5 days, 1 bottle/day. I am not telling you to do that, you need to ask your doc, but that's what I was told. I could not drink a full bottle a day, it tastes terrible, but I did feel better after drinking some for a few days. Hope you feel better -
Pressure/tightness under ribs
sbg224 replied to TJBintheOC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not but just wondering where do you live, I am in Seal Beach. Who was your surgeon. -
I would fast especially if they are checking cholesterol and or blood sugar, A1C. That seems early enough that you should be able to wait, otherwise if you eat it may delay things, just my opinion

Well today my sleeve is 3 months old, lol, 8/3, and I am down 46lbs with preop and 32 lbs since surgery. I know it is good and I feel a difference, but thought I would be maybe 10lbs more ahead. I have complained before how slow the weight is coming off, but grateful for my sleeve. I remember before the surgery and being so nervous and where has 3 months gone. I just hope the scale keeps going down. I train now 3 days a week with trainer, ride my bike outside, walk in pool 3-4 days a week, bad knees and will hopefully soon have total knee replacement to get out of this pain. Hope everyone is doing well. Love reading this forum and keeping up with everyone.

I had Breakfast today, plenty of Protein, and about 30 minutes later I was craving something crunchy, crackers, kale chips etc. I started getting upset thinking how could I be hungry, I was very full 30 minutes ago. I started thinking of my favorite Snacks, like cottage cheese and yogurt, and thought to myself, that is not tempting at all, I am still full. My point is, I think I discovered how to tell the difference from head hunger vs real hunger, for me anyway and just wondering if anyone else feels that way. I know before surgery if I was hungry, anything and everything sounded good and I would eat almost anything, but this time I realized I was not really hungry or anything would have been tempting. I hope I am making sense. So rather then give in to something crunchy, I waited and had some fluids and craving gone for now.

Who should I tell about the surgery, I have seen that question asked several times. -
Scared of ulcer because I drank green tea 1 week out from surgery
sbg224 replied to coopervane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was allowed decaf tea from the 2nd day after surgery. If it was not decaf, 1 cup of tea is OK, I'm sure. I had iced tea in a restaurant shortly after surgery, don't think that was decaf, don't worry -
Hi, I was sleeved 8/3, losing weight slowly, but as long as scale is going down. We have 2 pitbulls, that I had to buy from a bum in Compton, Ca, who was not taking care of them. The male was 1, he said and the female 3, but the male was younger, we have them 3 years now, and they are so sweet. the male just wants to play all the time, the female can be a little cranky. They both had torn knees, he had both and she had the right one, so we have spent about 12 to 13 thousand dollars on them, but it is worth it. They also went to boot camp for 3 weeks about 2 years ago. I love dog people. Anyway hope everyone is doing well, take care

$500 for a group information session about the VSG?
sbg224 replied to Eleanora's topic in Insurance & Financing
I attended many seminars in Southern California. When I called Dr. Misra, i was told she was out of network, I have Blue Shield. I decided i was not going out of network, as 1 facility told me it was $19,000.00 and how would I like to pay for it. I told them why would I pay for it when I have insurance and will just find someone in network, and I did. I had the sleeve done 8/3 at Cedars Sinai by Dr. Burch. All the seminars I went to were free. I did not sign any papers and was not asked to. I hope you did not consent to anything in writing, but for sure you have to fight that bill. I have been a nurse over 30 years and the medical system is disgusting, and people that are not medical, I feel sorry for, no matter how smart you are. It is all about money, and that is not the way it should be, what happened to the doctors that really used to care about their patient's. -
Wow, good luck hope he recovers quickly and all goes well. We have 4 dogs, including 2 pitbulls, and yes it is very difficult to get someone to help out, as most people are afraid of them, even though they are sweet, although female can be a little testy sometimes. If I lived near you I would help, I am in Orange county Ca, where do you guys live. Well good luck hope he gets to go home soon

I was sleeved, 8/3, live in California but born and raised in the Bronx. Where do you live. I am 5'4" starting weight 253.5 day of surgery, today 224lbs. Pre op 268. Losing slower then I would like, but it is what it is. I say the surgeon did his part, I am doing mine and that's all we can do. I am very strict sticking to the plan. Trying to get my activity level increased.Ask away any questions I will be open and honest. Good luck -
Gastric Bypass Surgury. How much of what I have been told is true?
sbg224 replied to Minnesotabrant's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is true, I have heard, that many, many docs will no longer do the gastric band. My surgeon said he no longer does it, and that is in LA. I had other consultations with other docs and no one recommended the band. I chose the sleeve, and had it done 8/3. Good luck with your decision, sleeve or bypass, it is making that choice for your health that matters most.
