Well if you are asking what the sleeve is all about, I can tell you my experience. It is amazing. My biggest problem was overeating. I would not stop, mostly at dinner, if it tasted good, I would just eat it all. Now the sleeve stops me and that's just what I need. I just had lunch, chicken,i t was so good, and I wanted to eat more, but I ate about 3 ounces and that was it, time to stop, I love it. I am 1 week short of 6 months, and have lost 75 lbs including pre op. I have about 45 more lbs to go. My cholesterol is normal for the first time in a very long time, my blood sugars, was not diabetic but heading that way, are back to normal. I do still have high blood pressure, but that goes with other things besides weight. I just had my first total knee replacement and I cannot even imagine putting that extra 75lbs on it if I had not lost that weight. My suggestion is you find a bariatric group, more then 1, and go to their usually free seminars and you will learn so much and see which one you click with. From there they can help you proceed with the surgery if that is what you want, and then your doc can document your attempted weight loss and illnesses. It really is that simple. When you meet the reqyirements, the group will put in for authorization, and then you get the date. Good luck, hope this helps some.

Tips on exercising with Asthma needed!
sbg224 replied to MsQuita83's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have asthma too, but everyone has it to a different extent. I am thankfully controlled with Advair, and singulair. You should use the rescue inhaler before you start any exercise or weights, and that may help. Find a pulmonologist that can get it better under control, just some opinions, good luck -
I wonder too why is he recommending the RNY. If you have heart set on sleeve, find another doc. Mine asked me what I wanted and I said sleeve and he was fine with it, I was 268lbs, had it 8/3 and down to 196lbs. Good luck

I still drink a premier Protein shake every AM, just to make sure I get the protein, and that starts the day with 30gms. The doc said they like you to get the protein from regular food, but 1 supplement a day, either a shake or Protein Bar is OK, but only 1. I am 5 months out.

I have watched other people so excited about reaching onderland, and I could not wait. Never thought I was going to post this so soon. Here it is 199.2 lbs this AM, felt good and weird. I was sleeved 8/3, and was a slow loser at first, or at least that's how it felt to me. Then finally the weight loss picked up, although I still feel it could be better, but not complaining one little bit. I just had a total knee replacement 2 1/2 weeks ago, and my appetite is not good and I have alot of nausea from the pain meds. I am trying to cut back on meds, really would like my appetite back. I miss my workouts too right now with my trainer, but need to rehab this knee first. All in all I am excited and just hope this journey continues to take me to my goal, and I am very grateful for my sleeve.

Resuming medications in pill form
sbg224 replied to From FLABIO to FABIO's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was not allowed to swallow pills until I was 3 months out. I have no idea about crushing cymbalta, that is a question for the pharmacist -
Well today is 5 months, wow the time flies. 201 lbs, almost to onderland, would have been a nice present, but still very grateful for the sleeve and the weight loss. Down 67lbs with preop, and 52 lbs since surgery. I have been a little off my pan the ast 2 weeks due to right total knee replacement, but trying as hard as I can, just the nausea is getting to me probably from the pain meds. Hope everyone is doing well. august sleevers bring us up to date.

good luck, walk, walk walk, sip, sip, sip, just remember this

I started to use them, and liked them. My bariatric place said there is no proof of how much is really absorbed, so they do not recommend them., and actually discourage using them. I went back to swallowing pills all day, but much rather use the patch, but they scared me into stopping them. The gentleman that actually started them came to speak at our support group in Orange county, Ca, and it is true he did not have anything in writing that suggests the amount you actually absorb. I have seen other people on this forum state they use them and there labs have been great. I am only 4 1/2 months so maybe in a few more months there will be something stating the actual absorption, and I will go back to them.

Well this year I was sleeved 8/3, after taking 3 years to finally make the decision. I am down 64.5 lbs including pre op. Feels amazing. I then had a right total knee replacement, 12/22, and the pain and nausea are unbelievably worse then I thought it was going to be. I was hoping it did not throw me too much off my schedule and routine, with the sleeve and weight loss, but it has. I am really trying to stay on track as much as I can, but it is so hard, and of course no gym right now, but I am grateful for the weight loss I have had. Would love to hear anyone elses stories on their end of year weight loss and the journey so far, whoever wants to share. Here's to each and everyone of us for much success in the coming year

Need suggest about bloating

Walk, and gas ex -
My family love my salmon. i put it in a pan, skin side down, pour barbecue sauce on it, enough but not too much, some garlic and onion powder. Cover it with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes on 400. I comes out moist and its like poached. for the last 5 minutes I turn the broiler on, as I like the top a little crispy. I know it sounds strange, but so good. Use a low sugar barbecue sauce, if you want to stay on track. I am 4 1/2 months post sleeve.

Help needed after total knee surgery
sbg224 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 8/3. I am down 62lbs, as of Tuesday prior to surgery for a right total knee replacement. The pain after this knee surgery is so much worse then I thought it was going to be. My whole food schedule and of course exercise schedule are totally off, and I am trying not to get discouraged and stay on track. i am taking narcotics, believe me not because I want to but it is so necessary, and the nausea is terrible. I cannot eat my usual Protein, and mostly just drinking fluids and Soups. I do hope this does not sabotage all I have done in 4 1/2 months. Anyone else experience ortho surgery after sleeve, how did you stay on track. Even if you did not have surgery, any suggestions are welcome. I wrote about this before the surgery the 22nd, and some others answered and said this knee surgery is brutal and they are right. I cannot even think about having the left one done any time soon. Thanks for any ideas -

total knee replacement 4 1/2 months after sleeve
sbg224 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi has anyone else gone through any orthopedic surgery following their sleeve. I had a total knee replacement yesterday, got home today, and am really worried about how it effects my weight loss journey. I am down 62 lbs, was training 3 x week, riding my bike and doing elliptical. Now I pretty much for 4-6 weeks will not be doing very much and it terrifies me. A therapist will be coming to the house a few weeks then outpatient therapy, but it will not be the same as training I am pretty sure. any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. I might be having the other knee done in 6 weeks, then I am really worried with all the down time. This has to be done, part of why I had the sleeve was to lose the weight prior to knee surgery, still have about 50-60 lbs to go. Thanks -
Biliopancreatic Diversion pre-op question
sbg224 replied to KeiKei's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My very first thoughts are, get a second opinion. I was sleeved 8/3. I went to several seminars and met with at least 4 docs before I decided on the one I had the surgery with. I have been a nurse over 30 years, and if I have recommended anything to anyone I know, especially surgery, is always, always get another opinion, and a third if needed. I see you live in California, so do I, where do you live. Good luck -
i have blue shield ppo of california and so far I have had nothing to pay. I had already met my deductible and out of pocket copays for the year, so the usual 10%, we are hoping we will not get billed for. The hospital I used and the doc charged $104,000.00 dollars and my insurance paid $30,000.00, so we shall see, good luck.

half way there/need suggestions for upcoming knee surgery
sbg224 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I cannot believe I am writing, that I am officially down 60lbs, which is halfway from goal. I have lost 50% of the excess weight I want/need to lose. another 60lbs to go, and hopefully I will reach that. I was sleeved 8/3. Unfortunately I am having total knee replacement 12/22, and I am worried how that is going to effect my weight loss journey. I have gotten into a routine of sorts, with what I eat and when, my exercise/training routine with a trainer, and now I will need to stop that. I am also supposed to have the other knee done about 6 weeks later. I would like to postpone the surgeries, but cannot, as 1 of the knees is a work injury and it must be taken care of as soon as possible. Any thoughts or suggestions greatly appreciated. I see the knee surgeon tomorrow, and have many questions, so hopefully he can assist me with this issue also. -
I go to a support group in California and we had the person who owns patch MD come to speak. He gave us some samples and I have been using the Multivitamin patch. I had my labs done last week, and so far my Vitamin levels are good, except for the Iron, and to my surprise it is high. I am seeing the doc tomorrow and they want me to bring all the Vitamins I am taking with me, a sometimes if I forget the patch, I use Centrum. I also take extra vit c, and b12, and Calcium pills. I would suggest asking your doc, but I have heard other people that really like the patch also.

Just wondering how everyone decides on their goal weight. I just changed my goal weight from 160 to 145. I based it on a reaching a bmi of 24.9, so I will no longer be considered obese/overweight. Hopefully will reach it, just can't wait to be in onederland, 11lbs to go. Thanks for any input
