I weigh daily and always have, 7 months out. It really has helped me keep a check on what I am eating. If there is no weight loss I try to up the Protein, even though I try for 100gms a day, and up the exercise. I thankfully either stay the same, up maybe 2 ounces or lose, so I do not think I am obsessive either. Once in AM before anything in mouth.

Hi everyone, I had my 7 month mark on the 3rd, down 84lbs. Just very recently the weight loss has slowed down quite a bit, but I have uped my carbs and need to get them back down. Terrible addiction those carbs, for me its crackers and bread. I am so grateful for my sleeve. So glad I did this surgery, sometimes I can't wrap my head around that I have even had it done. Now everyone I see notices it, and that feels great. I don't hide it from anyone, and so far no nasty comments. I don't tell unless asked. I appreciate this forum and lean something each time I read it, nd just to know there are people going through the same thing helps. I had a total knee replacement 10 weeks ago, and dealing with that horrific pain, has set me back some, but going to keep on going to reach goal by 1 year hopefully. Good luck to everyone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet....
sbg224 replied to xochtlem's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did Jello, ice pops, juice no sugar, but I could have Protein drinks two times a day. The headaches and discomfort is probably due to carbohydrate and sugar withdrawal, I had the same thing, nothing to do with calories. Hang in there, good luck. -
The second most painful experience of my life..omg...this was bad
sbg224 replied to CowgirlJane's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I first guessed gallbladder, thats how my pain sounded. The only way my surgeon will let me take nsaids, just had total knee done, is if I take carafate three times a day, it protects the stomach, good luck, feel better -
New to here, questions, my journey!
sbg224 replied to SillyOleMe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Never had experience with the lapband, but not many docs here in Southern California are not even doing them any longer due to the complication rate. I am not trying to discourage you, you need to get what you feel and your surgeon feels works best, but that has been the experience here. I know my surgeon no longer does them. I will be 7 months from the sleeve this week, and down 84 lbs and very grateful for it, good luck all the best whatever you decide. -
The constipation is so bad, and I am almost 7 months out. I did have a total knee replacement and have been on narcotics, so it is worse, but was not good before surgery. I just wrote yesterday it is amazing how we take for granted the day to day functions of our bodies until we struggle with something. I actually am seeing a GI doc, and was put on Linzess, it does help about 50% of the time, but what I would give for a normal BM with out help. Good luck, I really do understand.

Ridiculous Nausea (over a month out)
sbg224 replied to SpoonerGirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Are you on a PPI or just pepcid or zantac, that helped me. I am almost 7 months out and was very nauseous after my knee replacement and the pain meds, but the zofran tablets and the pepcid helped, good luck -
Can my surgeon who has 16 years of experience be wrong?
sbg224 replied to animallover1247's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not sure if this is helpful, but I was hungry from day 2, and I was for some crazy reason, craving fried chicken, which maybe i would eat 1-2 times a year. The hunger is still there, I am almost 7 months out, but it has changed. I used to envy people that wrote they had to remind themselves to eat. I take Pepcid 10mg twice a day, and before surgery I had very bad GERD, but thankfully now, unless I eat carbs, it is pretty well controlled. My doc told me I was not getting enough fluids and to take the pepcid and it would help the hunger, so I am, but I still get hungry. I am not telling you to go against doc orders, but you could see a GI doc for the Nexium issue that has some experience in the sleeve, but good luck finding one. Just try to stick to your food plan, and drink more. -
Let's talk about some NSV for the week
sbg224 replied to GibbsGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did the same thing, and instead of looking at an XL, I was actually looking for a medium, blouse did run a little big, but who cares. Sometimes I cannot believe it, l am almost 7 months out and my head still has not caught up with the body. -
How long was your hospital stay?
sbg224 replied to Angie74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stayed 2 nights and felt like I needed it, mostly because of the anesthesia. Felt exhausted and sleepy most of the time there. 3rd day was ready to get in my own bed. Was discomfort but no pain, used gasx and pepcid. Only 1 dose of narcotics after getting home for a terrible headache. Good luck, don't rush it, as you have those IV fluids to keep you hydrated while you are there. -
Pain and Pain medications
sbg224 replied to Barry W's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took toradol IV while in hospital once I went home I had 2 large bottles of Tylenol with codeine, and used it one time and that was because of a headache. I also take pepcid and use gasx as needed. Good luck -
Well that's an interesting development.

This is the first post I have seen mentioning this disease. My ferritin level is high and they of course suspected hemochromatosis. I was tested and they say I am a carrier, but I do not have the disease. They, the GI, doc and the bariatric surgeon, are recommending I see a hematologist. Have not gotten that far yet, as I had the sleeve 8/3/15, then total knee replacement 12/22/15, then recently acquired a thumb infection, etc. So tired of docs, but I will go and get it checked out in the very near future. Good luck, I hope all turns out well. -
I used to live in Austin, does that count. lol. I was just wondering how you stayed on track all these years. I am 6 1/2 months out, had total knee surgery, and with all the pin and nausea found myself straying from the rules. I am now trying to get back on track, but feel bored with the same old food. Carbs, not sweets, crackers, bread, tortillas, mostly are my downfall. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. You can message me directly at sbg224, thanks, and good for you

addiction to carbs/need advice
sbg224 replied to sbg224's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks guys, and you are all right. I really need to not buy the carbs, I mean I did it and then just as I feared the stupid knee surgery interrupted the food and exercise plan I was on, and it is so easy to cave in. I gotta get back on track. Thanks again. -
WOW, big time congratulations

when I have days I struggle, I am 6 months out, I use GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder and add it to yogurt usually, and that helps t get in the protein for the day. 1 scoop of the genepro has 30gms of protein

I used to feel the same way, what's wrong with me that I just cannot lose the weight like other people. When I went to weight watchers and all those people lost it and kept it off, why could I not do it. I could lose it, but never kept it off. Then one day, after thinking and researching the surgery for about 3 years, I realized I needed help, and the sleeve was just the thing I needed. I needed hunger control, and there it was right in front of me all this time. All of a sudden I just thought of it like having to have my gallbladder out, it just had to be done, and sure I was scared, but it was like a calm came over me and I told myself I had no choice, 6 months now, 78lbs and I am so grateful. Good luck.

6 Months Out, How Is It Going?
sbg224 replied to AYRW71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved 8/3, loving my sleeve. I am down 78lbs including preop, wish it was a little more, but I am grateful. I had a total knee replacement 6 weeks ago, and that has changed my eating pattern and exercising too, but hope to get back on track soon, as soon as I can get off the pain medication. Sounds like you are doing well, thanks for asking. -
i lost 16lbs, sleeved 8/3, 6 months yesterday

why did they deny it the 2nd time. I have blue shield of ca, and I did the 6 months, bmi 48, with htn and arthritis, and high cholesterol, and I was approved right away. I also heard that now they only require a 3 month supervison. Good luck, hope it goes through next time. Hope doc office is doing it right on the request. why did they deny it the 2nd time. Help! I had my sleeve on January 11,2016 and I am 3 and a half weeks Post op.
sbg224 replied to SusanFrye's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was just like you, actually freaking out that the weight loss was so slow. Now 6 months out I am down 78lbs, hard to believe, and sometimes I still think I am a little behind. patience is the key, and I have never been known to have any, but with this you have no choice. Protein goals for the day are key and exercising helps too. Good luck, and have patience. -
6 month surgiverary/how's everyone doing
sbg224 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First, thanks to everyone on here who shares their stories, good and bad. It really is a very great group of people, and what a sense of camaraderie. Today is 6 months, cannot believe it, scary how time flies. I am down 78 lbs with preop and 64 lbs since surgery. I always felt like I was a slow loser, especially in the beginning, but where and how else would I ever have lost this kind of weight in 6 months, so grateful for this sleeve. I have had some difficult times, especially with the constipation. I had a total knee replacement, 12/22, and it has been a very painful recovery, still on narcotics, soon to be off, I hope, and so it has been a challenge at times dealing with that and the food plan. Of course, I also had to stop going to the gym, have not yet returned, as I am in physical therapy for the knee recovery. I can only do my best, and stick to the plan as best I can. I sometimes worry about the future, if and when I will gain weight back, but I just keep that as a distant thought. I still have about 45lbs to go, and I will just concentrate on reaching goal, at 1 year hopefully if not sooner. Good luck to all who have had the sleeve, and to those who have not yet had it, good luck as well, it is so worth it. -

Transdermal Multi Vitamin Patches
sbg224 replied to hurricanecarla's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I tried the patch for a couple of weeks, and I liked it. Then I saw MD and they said not to use them because there is no proof on how much you really absorb. I went back to swallowing pills, I could not stand the chewables any longer. I have read on here some people that use them and say their labs are good. I would like to go back to them, lets see what others say. -
I am 1 week short of 6 months post vsg. I have lost 76lbs, including preop. I felt like I was losing so slowly in the beginning, but now I am pleases with the weight loss so far. I have about another 45-50 lbs to go. Anyway there were times after the surgery I was able to eat quite a bit. I once at about 4 ounces of steak and 2-3 ounces of chicken at one sitting at a korean barbecue restaurant, and just felt full, not stuffed. Anyway 12/22/15 I had a total knee replacement, and it has been, as someone on here put it, brutal. I never imagined it was going to be this painful. this is my 3rd major surgery, and I recovered rather quickly and painlessly, but not this time. I am still taking norco 5 weeks out. I have felt in the past 5 weeks so much more restriction. I somedays can only eat 500-700 calories and do not get in my Protein or fluids, but I just can't. Before the knee surgery I was able to eat 1000-1100 calories and always got in 80-100 gms of protein, fluids have always been a little bit of a problem. I was just wondering, and I have emailed the NUT and the nurse practiontioner, and have not heard back yet, on any ideas why this restriction is so much more now. Is it the narcotics possibly. If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them. It is funny, I would read on here how so many of you could only take a few bites, and I wondered why I could seem to eat so much more, and now i am feeling like this is how it originally should have been right after surgery, so I have gone backwards, lol. Thanks for any thoughts
