Thanks everyone, 14 hours to go, hope I get some sleep. Still cannot believe I am doing this. Will be in touch as soon as I can.

This is it ,the 2 day all liquid diet and I am so hungry. I am scared I am going to cheat. Surgery Monday, starting to freak a little. Starting to get a little excited too, cannot even imagine being a regular sze, maybe even a 12, or 10, it has been over 20 years since then. Anyone else next week, how are you doing.
-
thanks guys. I did a 2 week diet, but it included Protein shakes and 1 small meal a day. I didn't cheat with any bad food, I did overeat some, but lets face it that's why I am having the surgery. These 2 days, not even Protein Shakes, just Clear liquids. I cannot imagine those people that have to do liquids only for 2 weeks.

I don't know if I am lactose intolerant, have IBS, or what is going on, but with the whey isolate powders, expensive ones too, I have been getting cramping, diarrhea, and bloating. I have asked several GI docs, the surgeon, dietician, etc and no one can give me a definitive answer on what I have. Anyway, I tried the Vega Protein powder, milk free. It is the worst tasting thing I have ever tried. Can anyone who is lactose intolerant or have IBS, give me some ideas on protein powders, I am 1 week away from surgery and getting anxious, thanks

Just wondering if anyone else has had the surgery with this doc and facility. I saw one person that did, but it was an older post. Mine is Monday, getting so nervous, mostly about the after drinking, staying hydrated and gas issues, any advice welcome.

I'm having the surgery Monday, I am 57 years old and live in Southern California. I will let you know how it goes and what works for me and what does not afterwards. Getting very nervous, worried, and excited all in one, still feels a little unreal

The N.E.W. Program - Dr. Brian Quebbemann (Orange County, CA)
sbg224 replied to SunflowerGal's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I am in Orange county also. I heard very good things about him and his partner. My gyn recommended their group, she had the surgery with them, the RNY. I chose to go to Cedars in LA because I had gone there 2 years ago, but at that time was not ready for the surgery. Went back as now I am at my heaviest and tired of the yoyo dieting, and I met doc and just decided to stick with them. I know it's a bit of a drive, but although I hate traffic, it is just the way it is when you live in southern Ca. Good luck. My surgery is the 3rd, getting soooo nervous, but excited. Susan -
I am sure you guys have heard this all before, but the date is getting so close now, the 3rd, in some ways it still seems unreal and in others I cannot believe I am doing this and its so soon. Yesterday I felt lousy, knew my blood sugar was low, not a diabetic, so I stopped at a starbucks and got the Protein box, Has good stuff in it, hard boiled egg, fruit, cheese and Peanut Butter, and I hate about 2/3 of it, and felt so much better, but feel like I cheated. Anyone else get any reactions like this from the 2 week pre-op diet. These shakes just are not working for me. I do eat protein and veggies for dinner. This weekend is Clear liquids only and I am terrified of low blood sugars again, and lets face it, I am hungry. If I could do all this 2 week pre-op stuff I would not need the surgery. I must say I have not eaten carbs or any junk, but have eaten some extra protein. How's everyone else doing, anyone else the week of the 3rd also. Please write anything, at this point I just need to hear from some people like me, getting closer. Thanks

It is getting so real now, 1 week from today to get sleeved. All I can think about is how is it going to feel, will I stay hydrated, gas pain, etc. My whole relationship with food, will I miss the cravings and then satisfying them, will I miss choosing my food for a while. Oh well time will tell, good luck to all of us

I heard the egg white Protein does not mix well, and taste is nasty. I am mixing my shakes now with just Water and ice. Tried the Vega powder, worst tasting thing I ever tasted. Thanks for responses, will keep trying different things.

I think I have already written somewhere on here, but I am 8/3 and really getting nervous, excited, scared, worried, all those emotions that I guess are normal. Lifestyle change is going to be weird, hopefully only for a little while. Worried about not drinking enough. Never worried before about getting in enough nutrients or liquids, going to be different for sure. This pre-op is not too bad, but I m having some stomach issues with the protein drinks, so the RD recommended Vega, just tried it, oh my gosh, one of the worst things I have ever tasted. Gets me so upset too, these protein powders aren't cheap and now what do I do with it. Well good luck to all

Finally I figured out how to post my own messages. They say I am computer handicapped lol. Having my surgery 8/3. Had my pre-op cass and met with surgeon this past Wednesday. It still does not seem real. Something I thought I would never do. I can lose the weight, but after 4-5 official diets, gained it back plus 10lbs usually this last time 20 for a total of 50 lb weight gain. Finally said that's it. Need 2 knee replacements too. Just wondering if anyone was told they have to get heparin injections while in hospital following gastric sleeve. I really enjoy reading everyone's posts, it has helped so much, pre and post op sleevers. Any other August sleevers lets keep in touch.

An Unexpected Lesson at the Cardiologist
sbg224 replied to byebyebmi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for sharing. I met a man who was quite large. He overheard me talking with a friend about my upcoming sleeve surgery. He said, very politely, he had the bypass done 5 years ago in Belgium because they have the lowest infection rates and MRSA, but besides that, he said he lost 100lbs, but regrets ever having it done. His comment was as he pointed to his stomach, they changed this and then as he pointed to his head, but they did not change this. It also scares me, and they say it's after 18 months to 2 years, that the appetite and overeating can come back. He said he is never hungry but cannot stop drinking sodas and snacking. I am having it done 8/3, an right now we just have to take it day by day, just like an alcoholic, I guess. I am not going to worry about what might be in 2 years, but it is good to keep it in mind. Lets all hope we do great and keep it off. -

Getting sleeved in 9 days, worried
sbg224 replied to brandeett's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can only agree with you, I have the same fears. Surgery 8/3, and I just keep telling myself I have no choice this time, this has to be done if I am ever going to have a chance at being healthy and feeling pain free/knees, back. My first surgery was having my gallbladder removed, and I just keep telling myself, just like that was necessary so is this. I am trying to treat it not as an elective procedure, and in some ways it is not, if you know what I mean. So heres' to all of us who are waiting to have it done, may we all be successful and healthy. Good luck. -
Dr. Michael Feiz - Any thoughts
sbg224 replied to PreOpSleeve's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I went to what was supposed to be a free seminar at 12noon, and then meet with the surgeon, but it turned out to be very disorganized. They said instead of meeting with Dr. Feiz, I was going to meet with the PA, but by 12:40pm, after they stuck me in a room, no one came in. I finally left the room and told them just what of thought of them and it was not pleasant. They called me to apologize and then told me they were not in my network, so if I wanted Dr.Feiz then Dr. Lygass would do the surgery and he was in the network, well then what did I need Dr. Feiz for. They knew after speaking with them I was not going back. Cannot comment on his surgical abilities, but very disorganized. -
I am in southern california, scheduled for 8/3. Getting nervous, have my pre-op seminar 7/22 and prop with surgeon. Then just wait for the surgery day. I decided to wait until mu husband finishes teaching summer school, and then he has 3 weeks off. Sometimes I cannot believe I am doing this, but so tired of being hungry, tired, pain in knees etc. Good luck to all of us, and heres to a healthier us too.

I'm in southern california. surgery date 8/3, starting to freak a little. 57 years old, fighting with weight over 30 years. Tired of being hungry, knees hurting, tired, just not feeling well and healthy. One thing they did not make me do was a sleep study, have my pre-op 7/22 will ask then. Good luck to all of us. Trying to imagine a healthier life and smaller clothes. Last time I flew I almost could not secure seat belt, terrible feeling, it did pop open on landing and i just put my jacket on top of me, too embarrassed to tell flight attendant, hope this will soon be all behind me.

Hi, I'm not really a newbie but I am pre surgery, surgery date 8/3. It was a loooong journey. I started way back in April 2014, then had a work injury May 2014, went through with my 6 month program as blue shield requires. Everything put on hold, had to have wrist surgery Nov 2014. Began again April 2015, had all the tests done, got approved by the surgeon and the insurance and now have my date. Never ever thought I would be planning this, but so tired of having cravings and being hungry, tired and just unhealthy. Good luck to all of us, any pre op questions feel free to ask. sbg224

Protein Shake Questions
sbg224 replied to MOMMY2MGM's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the ideas. I do like the way Bariatric Advantage chocolate tastes, think I will try a pudding when its time. I am pre-op, so trying to find something good, I will look up GENEPRO. I just got the chocolate jay robb and it does not taste much like anything, want to see what agrees with my stomach. Any other ideas are appreciated. Good luck to everyone -
August 2015 Surgery Date!
sbg224 replied to KarenLoh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 8/3, very nervous and excited, tired of being hungry all the time. I waited until my husband is done teaching summer school, and then he is off for 3 weeks. My doc says 2 weeks before, 3 shakes a day and 1, 600 calorie meal. I will leave the meal for dinner. Just got a new Protein, and need to see if it is any good, I have stomach issues, IBS, and so many things upset my stomach, so trying to find the right whey protein if anyone has any suggestions. Good luck to all of us and may we all be healthier. -
Hey there September sleevers! Any one out there?
sbg224 replied to notforthefaint's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started my journey last April. I then had a work injury in May, fractured my wrist, had complications and had to have surgery November 2014. Have a knee injury also. Anyway, I did my 6 months as blue shield required, but then being on work comp I had to deal with that too, so put things on hold. Finally decided enough is enough and went through all the tests, endoscopy, stress echo, have high bp, cleared by cardiologist, GI, psych, and finally got insurance approval and approval from the bariatric surgery people as they all meet, docs, psych, dietician, NP and they also have to say its a go. Now my date for the sleeve is 8/3, and I am starting to freak a little. Wondering about all the after surgery issues. Nausea frightens me the most, and or vomting, dehydration. Have my preop with the surgeon 7/22, and a preop seminar, hopefully alot of my questions and concerns will be addressed. Good luck to all the future sleevers, August, September and anyone after that. Thanks for listening
