I wish I could share a happy journey. Unfortunately, that just isn't the case. I have lost weight--a great deal of it--183pounds, and for that, I am glad to have had the bypass. After a year of research and then a year of prepping, though, the surgeon I selected was not the best choice. He made mistakes, and when he went back in the correct those mistakes, he made new ones. To date, since 2006, I am still only able to "eat" protein shakes and pureed food. While I am now severely anemic and am unable to absorb iron, I do not suffer high cholesterol. On the day of my surgery, my cholesterol was 756. That was the main reason I opted for the surgery. After losing 100 lbs. On Weight Watchers, I was still in danger of dying. As a single Mom, death was NOT a viable choice. I am glad I had the surgery, and, even if I knew the problems I would end up facing, I would do it again--with a different surgeon. At this point, I am still trying to get my insurance to cover skin removal. I carry about 40lbs. Of skin. It seems funny to me that this aspect of weight loss surgery is not covered. It is also something that I was NOT prepared for. As a woman, I was also not prepared for the change in my upper body physique. I found this site while searching for some protein shake recipes, because quite frankly, after almost a decade, they are becoming boring. While I haven't found recipes here, I am very glad to have "stumbled"on to this site. I have a feeling I may find a few things far more valuable than a few recipes. I am willing to continue to be bored with my shakes in exchange for learning from and chatting with others. :)
