Madeleine Renee replied to StefanieSparklePants's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
33 lbs, FANTASTIC! I had mine August 18. Hope you continue to do well, you have started well. I get a bit of nausea myself if I eat 1 bite too much. Keep going, you can do this! -
Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction
Madeleine Renee replied to chasingpolaris321's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had my gallbladder out 2 years ago. I get violent diarrhea since, direct effect of surgery. I take Olestyr, powder mixed in Water. Works wonderfully for cramps. I am also allergic to all kind of painkillers, be it morphine, codeine, any derivatives. At the hospital, they gave me benadryl with my injections. It worked fine. You absolutely need to write all this down and discuss with your surgeon, he is the best and only one to guide you through this. I am sure there are solutions to your problem, your surgeon can help you. -
Congrats, it's an ulcer!
Madeleine Renee replied to fairgge's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have to keep hydrated. If you are continually sick, you need to go to the ER so you can get an IV in and prevent dehydratation. It can be pretty serious, Try some Water, see if you can swallow a gravol. If that does not work, you should go to the ER, -
Post op diet Clueless
Madeleine Renee replied to Ourlifecomplete's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein shake is considered liquid. That is why they gave it to you at the hospital. You could have 2 Protein shakes of 30g of protein a day, and add beef or chicken bouillon, sugarfree Jello. Lots of Water. This should take you to Monday, good luck. My surgery was on the 18th, I am doing excellent. -

I live in Quebec , Canada but will be vacationing in Flagler's beach, about 20 min from Daytona, from Sept 26 to October 26. I had my bypass last week, August 18. I am doing very well. Tired, but I am following what I should be eating and sticking to the plan. Let me know if you want to talk or me . -
How much cn you actually eat?
Madeleine Renee replied to Julie West's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh Julie West, 6 toasts is way too much even for a normal sized and stomach. You are stretching your pouch. Not good. Do you have a nutritionist/dietitian? You need one immediately, to bring you back in line with the plan. I had my bipass 1 week ago, I certainly did not go through this for nothing. Now is the time for you to watch you eat, exercise 1 hr a day even if it is only walking. Call for a nutritionist today please! Let us know how you are doing. -
2 days post op 6 lbs weight gain
Madeleine Renee replied to mishi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same here, I gained 7 lbs. Depressing, on top of not eating for 5 days! -
Had my one coffee/milk/protein shake mixture this morning. Tolerated it fine. I don't know why drs say do not have coffee it can give you ulcers! I had ulcers before, it is a bacteria and it i treated with antibiotic...maybe it irritates the sore stomach! I'll have my cappucino in the morning.

day 5, withdrawal symptoms! I had a coffee with 1% cream and a choclate Protein shake in it, Totally drinkable, I'm happy,

Surgery tomorrow and nervous...
Madeleine Renee replied to mimic86's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After the surgery, in the hospital, Wednesday, I was not hungry at all. but, when they served food to others, boy oh boy it smelled good!!! And all I got was 1/2 a beef bouillon and a Protein jelle that tasted pretty bad. It was so hot in the bedroom that the Jello melted!!! Never saw that before! Over 100F outside, record breaking and extremely humid.. That part was difficult. I have had uncontrolled diabetes for the last year. Today, morning reading is 92 ! Insulin might be over soon! That pleases me. -

Surgery tomorrow and nervous...
Madeleine Renee replied to mimic86's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am having my bipass tomorrow as well. I take Centrum Vitamin 1 a day as recommended, you might want to look into this. I am on day 13 of the liquid/protein diet and it is very difficult. But, what I was told is that this part is the most difficult part. After the surgery, you are not hungry and you follow the prescribed diet. Apparently, sugary food and fatty food gives diarrhea, that is a great way not to touch it. I was also told that your tastes change, you no longer crave the bad stuff. There are lots of good things you can have after just a few weeks. Plus everytime you go on the scale, that is a fantastic motivator! Who wants to eat a donut when they know in advance it will make them sick and they just weigh themselves and were 2 lbs down from a few days ago! I lost 8lbs in 13 days and that helped my motivation, so I am going in tomorrow knowing that the worse will be over soon and my new life starts tomorrow! Lots of courage to you, everything will be fine, lets keep ea other updated. Hugs. -
Generic Vitamins for post op?
Madeleine Renee replied to zackly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Centrum chewable, 1 a day. You can buy anywhere! That is what I was recommended by surgeon and nutritionist. -
To tell my coworker/friend or not...
Madeleine Renee replied to losing_the_band's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I would not tell. Try to avoid going out to eat for a while of course and then, you can always say you are on a serious diet because you want to lose more, which is true. I would avoid telling for the simple reason that if you want to keep it private this is the only way. Be discreete, you will not regret it, you can always mention something to her later. I have told 2 friends, I am retired so it will not be spread around, My husband and daughter encourage me any body else will know that I am on a diet when they ask what I did to lose so much. My sisters-in law will never find out, they are judgemental and narrow minded! My moto is, when in doubt, don't tell ! -
Vitamin Water Zero tastes great. I have been drinking it for years. Non carbonated, many flavors, lots of Vitamins. My nutritionist recommends it.. Give it a try, good stuff.

Curious and confused
Madeleine Renee replied to lyndsayc21's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is in 2 days. I am having RNY and that is what I wanted with my research. I am diabetic, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, fatty liver, but I only need to lose about 60 lbs. The bipass has an excellent chance to get me off insulin and most of my meds almost immediately. My doctor told me it was the best for my metabolic problems. You need to see the surgeon and see what he recommends for you. They know what is best for you. Whatever surgery you have, you will lose weight but you will have to adapt your eating habits and have a complete change in the relationship you have with food! Good luck, and take care of yourself. -
What did your breast's do?
Madeleine Renee replied to meyouus's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am having my bipass in 3 days...I had breast reduction surgery 20 years ago, went from a 38DD to a 38B, I did not want anything bigger. I am now 63 years old and walk around without a bra most of the time. Boy oh boy, certainly hope that they will not shrink too much! I will end up with AA We will see... -

Presurgery and I can't decide to keep WLS public or private
Madeleine Renee replied to soccermama's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi, I am having my gastric bipass on August 18. It has been a 1 year long process and many years of thinking. I told 2 friends, my brother and wife and of course my husband. That's it. I belong to an Optimist Club of 25 women! When they ask me what my secret is for losing all that weight, I will say diet and lots of hard work. And it is true! If you are a family physician though and you have obese patients whose health is compromise and they ask you, I don't know what I would do, but it would be tempting to tell and suggest they get themselves informed. Good luck -

My Pre Op Diet Was All I Needed
Madeleine Renee replied to Chuckster's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
I think Chuckster is a fraud and his only agenda is making people here feel bad about surgery. Not sure I believe his story, why would he post it here?? What does he have to gain?? I reported him to the admin of the Bariatricpal. By the way, I am diabetic on insulin, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, fatty liver, I now weigh 215 lbs, I had all that when I was 150 and walked 2 hrs a day! The bipass will save my life and hopefully make it better.
