New Sleever Needing Advice
maggie409 replied to goalz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was not able to get in that much on day three. But my situation was different also. I was in the hospital for two nights and a recovery house for one night. I didn't really start anything on my own until four. I started out with 1/2 bottle of water in the morning. My issue was that I was not sipping all day long and I let myself get dehydrated. I will also say that I felt constantly full once I started truly sipping. -
Usually, I'm pretty even keeled, even on the Internet, but some questions...
maggie409 replied to no onions's topic in Rants & Raves
I saw one this morning and did respond because all I could think of to say is "you're an idiot" and I do tell my children if you don't have anything nice to say..... It was a thread about "Marijuana use post surgery" or something like that. Their doctor told them they would have to give up any form of smoking but they were going to "experiment" and see if the doc was right. So why don't you know in a few beers, a Pepsi, and a Twinkie for good measure!! Why do people have WLS if they have no intention of breaking bad addictions? -
Why would you need a breather if you sleep fine now? For some people sleep apnea is due to life choices like obesity or smoking etc. for some people it is due to a physical problem like my son whose tongue is too large for his pallet and when he lays it cuts off his air flow. I have not ever had a problem with sleep apnea myself. If you sleep fine you shouldn't need one. So no worries

I don't mean to sound gross but....

I have a capful of powdered miralax in s cup of herbal tea before bedtime and by morning, all is good with the world. I will use the mirilax if I am on my second day of not going. Also I have a friend who has chronic constipation and she has taken it every day for years. It is very safe -
Amazing how our eyes are opened up to we used to eat ourselves. They don't condemn you for your eating choices now. You shouldn't condemn them for their eating choices. You can't save the world. Remember a previous you that would get soooo irritated at the skinny health fanatic that was always griping at how people ate and posting her workouts on Facebook? You are now that person. Don't irritate the people around you like that person did you. Enjoy your new lifestyle and love the people around you. As your health improved there will be a select few that will want to change. But not many.

Sick of Protein Shakes, 4 more weeks!
maggie409 replied to TexasGirl86's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Wow! Five weeks full liquids! That will be tough. -
My best advise is send her a message that says I love you and I miss you and I am here for you whenever you need me. Then drop it and live your life fully. Whatever she is going through is all about her and she will either figure it out and call or she won't. Being hurtful in return does you know good and letting someone bring you down does you know good. Love her, be there for her if she needs you, move on. True friends always come back.

Sick of Protein Shakes, 4 more weeks!

When do you get to start puréed and soft foods? -
Powdered Miralax in cup of hot herbal tea with honey before bed time. If it affects your stomach you will be sleeping. Will work my mid morning. May take a day or two if you are badly backed up

New Sleever Needing Advice

I also poured my Protein shakes over ice. I have struggled with my Water as well. But I think I am doing better. My daily while in your phase.... Wake up and sip until I get a bottle of water (16 oz). Takes me about an hour. I also take any meds and supplements during this time. My NUT suggested drinking an herbal tea with honey in the morning helps the stomach tolerate food better throughout the day. About 30 mins after tea, have a Protein shake. I use GNC total lean (25 gr of protein). Wait another 30 mins or so and sip, sip, sip until another bottle is finished. lunch I would purée a creamed Soup or my choice or butter Beans. I could manage to get in 1 cup over about 45 mins. Drink 1/2 an Isopure protein water (10 oz) over ice. To me it taste like SF koolaid and has 20 gr of protein. Have another 1/2 cup puréed soup or beans. Another 1/2 Isopure protein water. Also these get to count toward your daily liquid. Sip bottle of water... About an hour Another 1/2 cup puréed soup or beans. Sip bottle of water and have s SF Popsicle With this you have over 65 gr of protein and close to 80 oz water. If you will choose Soups high in calories it will help increase your calorie intake and makes you feel better. Gets super BORING but just reset your perception about it. This is temporary and it is helping you to heal. ITS ONLY TEMPORARY!! -
I'm in

Purée butter beans until they are cream soup consistency. High in protein and potassium. Also United sells a bean and back cream soup you can purée.
-
I puréed butter beans. High in protein and potassium. Added a little salt and the liquid from the can. It was a nice change from soup. But I also puréed a lot of soups. New England clam chowder and tomato bisque.

I have been told no caffeine but my NUT says herbal teas are ok. Her directions "drink a cup of tea early in the morning to help you tolerate solids throughout the day." I am allowed to sweeten the tea with honey or agave nectar. No processed sugars or artificial sweeteners. If I drink coffee it must be decaf.

My NUT has never given me any caloric guidelines.

I'm 4 1/2 weeks out and I'm doing great
maggie409 replied to armiller's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My NUT says no processed foods and that includes breads, tortillas, etc. I am in my 3rd week post op and I just started soft foods yesterday. Foods I get in include fish, puréed butter beans, refried beans, guacamole with nothing chunky, soups, eggs. I wouldn't dare touch a grilled cheese. -
Getting fluids in after surgery
maggie409 replied to MissPam's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am three weeks post-op and I found myself getting dehydrated. My NUT told me I needed to get 1/2 my body weight in ounces..... She does realize she is talking to a super morbidly obese person??? Right?? That's a lot of ounces. However, I am up to between 80 and 100 ounces per day. It's hard but I am getting it by drinking one 16 oz bottle of water when I first wake up. It takes me about an hour. After that I sip sip sip. I keep my bottles lined up on my window seal so I can keep up. It's tough and something we all struggle with. -
I am also only in my third week post-op and managed 670 calories today and feel engorged. Between the food and trying to get my water in I am stuffed.

Going to Tijuana, anyone else?
maggie409 replied to soonsleeved's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I was sleeved on June 15th in Tijuana through BariatricPal using Dr. Jesus Martin Lopez. It was a great experience. As for aftercare, I made arrangements with my PCP before I even went. She removed my stitches and will start blood panels at 2 months post-op.
