I would give anything for a Diet Coke...
maggie409 replied to Psychsnob's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a serious addiction to diet coke. I broke myself of the habit before I would allow myself to schedule my surgery. It took me months of stopping and starting. If you didn't break the habit before surgery, it may take you several months to get past the craving. But I promise you they will go away!! Hang in there! -

I just know that for myself I was glad someone told me that in order to maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle I needed to eliminate these things. I needed someone to tell me that. If I cheat and have pizza, then I know from 30 years of obesity what will happen. If everything goes good with the pizza then next time there is pizza I will say oh that's ok you can have that. Then when I'm presented with a Debbie Snack I will say just one won't hurt..... Until I have the next "just one". I'm glad my nutritionist is a healthy whole-foods clean eating person. I want to learn to get as much enjoyment from a strawberry as I do a Debbie Snack. I want to lead by example for my children and grandchildren and show them that processed foods and refined sugars are bad and we can live without them. We each have our own journey. We each choose our own path. I just don't think I can do this and not follow the advise of my NUT.

Congratulations!! You will do great! I traveled to Mexico and had to fly also. Where in Mexico are you going? -
This statement is true if you want to be fat again. My surgeon and NUT said NO carbonated drinks, NO processed foods, NO processed sugars, NO processed breads, tortilla, and chips......Not strongly discouraged. We can certainly eat most all foods post op, if we want to be fat again. Your doctor is pulling your leg or you have misunderstood her / him. Have you had WLS yet? Have you reached goal yet? How long have you maintained your weight? I was sleeved on 6-15-2015. My post op diet instructions clearly use the wording "eliminate" from diet. I understand that at some point we will have the physical ability to eat anything we want. But in order to be successful, I don't think my post op instructions are bad. I know that I find it necessary to have WLS because I ate processed sugars, and cokes, and processed foods, and breads. I want to eat healthy and lose weight and get fit. And when I am to the point that I can physically eat what I want, I hope to have made healthy changes in my diet. Changes that don't include the things that made me fat in the first place.

How much did you guys lose in the first month?
maggie409 replied to ldean7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have lost 27 pounds..... 12 pounds on the pre-op diet and 15 pounds since my surgery on 6-15. -
I am four weeks post op and I was very weak as well. My weakness went away once I started drinking at least 4 bottles of water a day in addition to any protein drinks. My NUT pointed out that I was dehydrated. My goal for week five is to start getting in five bottles of water per day. It's tough but it will make all the difference. Oh and my bottles of water are 16 oz.

I was super excited to finally get some humus and after I ate it made me feel nauseas (did not throw up) and body ached like the flu. And last week in the soft/puréed stage I tried some red beans that had not been puréed and within 30 mins I was on the bathroom every five minutes with diarrhea until everything I had consumed was gone. So for me each time the reaction was different. I am proceeding with caution

WTH? All these different post op diets after sleeve! Ughhh
maggie409 replied to daveintx's topic in Rants & Raves
My NUT said.... Surgery to 1 week Clear Liquids Second week full liquids Third week soft/puréed foods Fourth week all foods Of course she had specific guidelines as to things in CANNOT eat ever. And her main point was proceed as you can tolerate and as your stomach allows. I personally stayed on soft/puréed foods for weeks three and four. Going into week five I will add a few items but not a lot. I am also ready for fresh veggies but from everything I have read, we shouldn't start those for a while and my NUT has not said when I can start them. All in all, I am happy with my healing process and I have had zero issues. -
Please add me to the Spreadsheet.

I like GNC Total Lean. I have the ready made drinks as well as the powders. I mix my powders with water or almond milk. I have figured out if one flavor is too prominent then I mix vanilla and chocolate. Or strawberry and vanilla. I always drink them over ice. There are lots of flavors to choose from.

How did y'all decide on a Doctor/facility in Mexico
maggie409 replied to 2bskinnysteve's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I chose to go through BariatricPal and used Dr Jesus Martin Lopez in Tijuana. I was very pleased. He did an excellent job and I had very little pain. Only small bruising around one incision. He did an amazing job. He spoke to me on the phone before I went, and came to see me the evening before at the recovery house to answer any questions and explain the process so I would know what to expect. After I was released from the hospital, I spent one night on the recovery house and he came that evening and went over the x-Rays from my leak test. Now if I have any questions, I just shoot him an email and he responds quickly. -
We stayed there after my surgery. There are two bedrooms so you share with one other patient. It was nice getting to know someone else taking the same journey! It's a great place to stay, they take amazing care of you, and Juan is wonderful!!

No Wonder I Wasn’t Skinny!
maggie409 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am from the south and my mom cooked on a budget. A pot of red beans with cornbread w/butter and German Fried Potstoes. And can anyone say "Spam"! My mom and dad loved it! Everything was fried and covered on gravy. My moms idea of vegetables was canned corn or fried okra. I watched my Grandmother make a pot of whipped potatoes once to go with her ghoulash and she put two full sticks of butter and a whole can of pet milk. Dang! I'm getting hungry! Lol -

One month post surgery;mixed emotions

Who says things like that you ask? Someone who is not as good a friend as you had thought. Those that love us and are true friends support us in whatever we do. Your progress sounds exactly like mine. I will be one month out soon. Excess skin??? Yes we will have it! And I'm soooo glad we will have it! That means we are successful. Every time I hear that I go into my bedroom and I take off my close and stand in front of a mirror naked and I look. What I have now can't be any prettier than loose skin. Will my friends abandon me? Absolutely not! And if they do, then I love them and let them go. I refuse to let anyone intimidate me or guilt me into regretting my decision. I don't know you. But I am super proud of you for doing this. This is probably the hardest thing we will face and it isn't just weight loss, it is a transformation of lifestyle. Will I be a skinny bitch? No because I'm not a fat bitch. We are who we are and the only changes that will occur in us are positive healthy life changes. -
I don't really care why we aren't supposed to have it. My doctor and my NUT said don't do it..... So I'm not going to do it. They are the professionals and I trust them. As for energy, get sublingual B12 liquid 5000 mcg. It works for me

I started soft foods at three weeks and I had soft scrambled and it was great. Had it with a small amount of refried beans. It sat very well

Weight Gain immediately postop
maggie409 replied to janeencooper@hotmail.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gained 7 pounds but at 3 weeks post op I am down 25 pounds from my highest weight. I lost 12 during my preop diet and 13 since my surgery. The extra weight is a combination of swelling from surgery and water weight from all of the fluids they pump in you. I only let myself weigh once a week. -
