The Journey Continues, OR, Third Time's the Charm
Machalo replied to Machalo's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yesterday's weigh in - check. Stayed the same, but I was retaining water in my legs so I'm hoping by flushing that out today and tomorrow the scales will show a little bit of movement. Maybe I hit a stall. Hmmph. Surgical Nurse happy with my diet, my protein and water intake, suggested I add in a few fats for balance, but was otherwise happy with my progress. Nice, feel good session. Today, I'm refocused and recommitted. I want nothing to stand in the way of my getting this surgery, so I'm dotting all my "i's" and crossing all my "t's". Need to see where the psychiatrist sent my clearance letter. Talked with hubby last night and he doesn't believe that he has the willpower to be compliant with the restrictions of having the surgery, so he's not looking at that as an option. I don't know what to do for him. He needs something to help him move some of the excess weight that he's carrying. *SIGH* He can't exercise well because of his disability, and he's just growing and growing. What do I do? Tough love and shaming doesn't work on him, he just defiantly eats more (been through that with the extended family). I'm kind of at my wit's end with how to help him. -

What are you doing before your surgery?

Thanks @jib8080. I will keep that in mind for next time I get sick. Which hopefully won't be again this flu season. *knock wood* -

Overwhelming wins and losses
Machalo replied to Darktowerdream's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and feelings and experiences, @Darktowerdream! You are very brave. For a minute I was wondering how you got into my head, LOL! I don't know that I could be that brave to show all my emotions and thoughts and such. While I don't have the same struggles that you do, I know we all have our own paths to walk, and I wish you all the best! You said, We just can’t give up when the going gets rough. That hits me where I live because life is rough a lot of the time. I figure if it is calm I'm not growing. Since I love to learn and am a permanent student, I don't mind stretching a little here and a little there. It's when the stretching is like pulling a rubber band to the breaking point that I mind. You have done an awesome job with your weight loss with your challenges. I will look back on your post when I need a pick-me-up and refocus. You are an inspiration, keep up the great work. ((HUGS)) -
GALS who started their journey over 300 lb+<br /> +
Machalo replied to Frustr8's topic in The Gals' Room
I understand your frustration, @KMB1218. It stinks when you're ready in your mind to have it done and you still have months to go before insurance will say it's good to go. But hang in there. The months will pass by, and think, it gives you more time to prepare emotionally and mentally for the changes coming. BTW, Welcome Welcome -
What are you doing before your surgery?
Machalo replied to JRT Mom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It was only during the cold, with all the post-nasal drippings. UGH! I'm glad I'm on the other side of it now. Thanks for the advice @cspera. I have a prescription for Phenergan that I had totally forgotten about. You know how it is though when you aren't feeling good. You go back to what helped when you were younger. At least that's what I did. My mum used to soak soda crackers in a little tea with sugar to settle my stomach when I was sick. I've at least graduated from that to straight up soda crackers or peanut butter toast. -
Not having surgery then, but congratulations for almost being there! You are going to do great! Keep us in the loop how you're doing.

What are you doing before your surgery?
Machalo replied to JRT Mom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks AZ! That is very kind of you to say, especially this week when it's been tougher than normal to choose right. I caught a cold and had nausea with it. I broke down and ate soda crackers to soak up and eliminate whatever icky cold stuff was in my tummy, but now I'm retaining water from the salt on the crackers. Paying for my mistake? YES definitely. What do you all do for nausea that is still keeping you on track? -
The Journey Continues, OR, Third Time's the Charm
Machalo replied to Machalo's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Today is weigh in day. I may have lost a few pounds, or none at all. I've been roller-coasting 5 pounds this last month. Then I got sick and "fed" my cold with soda crackers because I was so nauseated. That has led to a bit of water weight which I'm still trying to flush out. Question for anyone who reads this, How much protein is too much during this pre-operative time? I'm not on a specific diet yet, but I'm still getting in 80-100g of protein a day. -
I didn't have anything dramatic like that happen, mine was more gradual. I looked into the surgery several years ago and the insurance hoops I had to get through weren't worth it at that time. I looked into surgery in a few years after that and got anti'd by friends. This time, i'm not listening to anyone except my team and myself and am well on the way to having my surgery. Also, once I got to the point where taking care of myself personally was an impossibility, I knew beyond doubt that I needed a change. I mean, who but an obese person (or the disabled) can't reach their own feet???

Like everyone has mentioned, being nervous is normal. You're going to have a huge change in your life. If you're married, you probably had similar nervousness right before walking down the aisle. Or right as you were signing papers to buy your first house, or your first car. This is going to be the best decision though for your health and well being. Come on out to the threads and read and comment, we're a fairly friendly bunch, and we love to give support. All the best to you!

I can't say that I have run into that yet. My surgical team is thrilled with every pound I lose in this pre-operative journey. My answer to a comment such as that would be, thank you for noticing that I'm losing, I'm on a medically supervised diet and exercise program and have been working really hard. While it is exciting to have lost a little bit, my team reminds me that the reason I'm having surgery in the first place is because I need another tool to add to my arsenal in order to make my weight loss goals a reality and to make them stick. I know you want me to be healthy and I appreciate your support. Yeah, I guess you could say, I've thought about this kind of reaction a lot over the last several weeks. LOL!

Way to go, @Chardonnay40 -
Day 13 The season I'm most grateful for is Spring. The renewal of life after a long, dark rest. Of course that brings on my Spring-time allergies, but I'll take them to have the smell of newly growing plantlife. I also get to drive through National Forest every day so I drop my window open and take in the smells of new life. Puts me in my happy place. Mirror Mirror Question - The status of my hair is - thin and straggly. And that's before surgery! I'm taking Biotin everyday like clockwork so I'm hoping to see some new growth there in the nearer future. I miss my thick hair, even though it was a pain to deal with. Though I must say, not having to shave every day because that hair is gone too, is a bonus I'm appreciating! HAHA!

Congratulations on your approval and your date setting. I know how hard it is to wait, I still have several months to wait until I get my date, so I'm going to live vicariously through you and say, Way to go! I'm so pleased for you!

Best of luck to you! Let us know how you are doing and how we may support you during this time of preparation.

Fkn up Already - 1 week post op
Machalo replied to FknUpAlready's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So glad to hear that you are doing better. I was worried that something bad had happened, and I guess it kind of did since you had to be hospitalized for dehydration. i'm glad that your bodily functioning is getting back on track and that you feel more like yourself. Feel free to rant on here, seek advice, get motivation, etc. We're all just here trying to get through our journeys as best we can, supporting each other along the way. -
Better late to the party than not participating at all. Day 12 has been all right so far, though I did have a caffeinated diet soda this morning. My excuse is that it is not one of the items I’m giving up this month, just limiting the amount I drink every day since it used to be most of what I drank. I have most of my water checked off, I sip throughout the day and I’m usually done by noon. Gratefulness, Day 12 – The three people in my life that I am most grateful for would be my Savior, my husband, and my mom. My mom isn’t with us anymore, she passed in 2000, but she raised me by herself in the 60’s and 70’s when doing so wasn’t popular or very acceptable. She was strong and stubborn and she loved me with everything she had. I can never repay her enough for the upbringing she gave me. It wasn’t perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but it was mine, and I wouldn’t trade it or her. My husband is my other half. My best friend. We have so much in common that we can sometimes finish each other’s sentences. We have laughed, lived, and loved together for the past 26 years, and it seems like just yesterday that we had our first date. Now that he is supporting my WLS, I can share everything with him again. He also needs WLS but I think he’s waiting to see how I do first before he approaches it again.
