Coffee???? Yay or Nay???
Machalo replied to GAjeepGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also try to remember that not everything you ingest needs to be high protein. There's all that water to sip after all. While it would be a bonus if you could make your latte have protein in it, if your surgery team says it's okay to have it, I would have it. My surgery team said the ideal is no caffeine/coffee/soda for the rest of my life, but they know that we'll eventually slip and have it, so they've suggested how long I should wait before trying it out on my new pouchie. I hope you find a livable solution for yourself soon that will keep your spirits up! -
4 weeks out and can’t eat or drink anything
Machalo replied to HLsleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
((HUGS)) I hope it gets better soon and that you do call your surgeon's office, cause this sure doesn't sound normal, and not getting your liquids or nutrition in you is dangerous. -
This guy has a hell of a sense of humor
Machalo replied to AJ Tylo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Those are hilarious! Thanks for sharing! -
I have no wisdom for you, @LeeLee Luv, but that is AWESOME that you're getting that "full" signal from your new pouch/sleeve. From what I've read from others on these boards, people don't always get that signal and wind up getting ill because they didn't know to stop. I would definitely keep a log of this occurrence and see if it happens the next time you try mushy food. All the best! ((HUGS))

6 month diet and mind games
Machalo replied to juncaj4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried to look at my time of preparing to submit to insurance (which was my first hurdle) as a way to get my head wrapped around the idea that things are getting ready to rapidly change. The first month I tried to be more mindful of what I was eating and drinking and that led to a reduction in sugar consumption. The next month I gave up sugar for the most part, but allowed myself to have an indulgence now and again. I kept adding things month by month that I was watching, still allowing myself to indulge every once in an while if I chose to. Funny thing was, because I was allowing those indulgences, I found I didn't need to take them as often. I've not had a diet work for me, ever, for long. I've been doing this for the past 6 months and am down 45 pounds as of this morning. And that is without seeming to really try. Echoing Cammy, when you get the cravings, try to remind yourself of why you have taken this step towards WLS. Put up motivational sayings, or pictures, or whatever will remind you around the house. If you have a favorite outfit that you want to fit into again, pull it out so you can anticipate getting into it comfortably. Also, come out here frequently to the boards. Knowing I'm not alone in my journey really helps me keep my head in the game. In these uncertain times, I'm taking it day by day and hour by hour. I choose not to indulge for right now; maybe later. Eventually, later is a lot later. This is a lot longer winded than I anticipated, sorry if I'm rambling. I hope all the best for you in your journey and believe that you can be all you can be, one step at a time. ((HUGS)) -
Corona delaying weight loss surgery dates? Anyone?
Machalo replied to MaybeMeow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so sad for everyone being postponed. It is so frustrating to be told to "wait" when you've been working towards something so hard for so long. But just like the others have said, it isn't a "no" it's just a "not now." I plan to keep on keeping on, biding my time until it is my time. My mantra right now is "I know I am loved by my Heavenly Father and that He has everything in His hands." (Not preaching here, just my own perspective!) We will all get there and then we will look back on this and hopefully be able to laugh (or at least smile). Stay strong, friends! We've got this! -
Oh, congratulations!!! That is just awesome! I hope you get a date that isn't caught up in the middle of this COVID-19 pandemic. All the best!

Corona delaying weight loss surgery dates? Anyone?
Machalo replied to MaybeMeow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've decided to hope for the best, and prepare for the worst. If I need to be rescheduled then it wasn't quite time for my surgery to happen. I won't take it as a sign not to have it at all, because I've put in too much work and gotten so far. -
Oh, sorry to hear it, Georgette. At least you got another not too long from now appointment. Hopefully everything will have settled down by then.

Still hoping that mine goes off on time, but I have "volunteered" to fill any empty spot that may occur between now and then due to fear of COVID-19 or travel or whatever. I think my medical center is deciding as we speak about elective surgeries. Their concern is the shortage of PPEs (surgical gowns, masks, booties, hats and gloves) to keep a sterile environment in the ORs. *Shrug* We'll just have to wait and see.

Corona delaying weight loss surgery dates? Anyone?
Machalo replied to MaybeMeow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, I feel for everyone in this situation right now. My hospital hasn't banned elective surgeries yet, but they very well could. Which will effect my surgery date. I've volunteered to go earlier if they have any cancellations, but I'm not really expecting anything at this point. I will certainly be bummed out to have to wait an extra ?? amount of time, but will use it to get healthier and drop some more pounds to make the surgery safer when it does happen. That's all I can control right now, so that is what I'm trying to focus on. Best wishes to all! -
I'm 5 weeks away from surgery now and so excited about the changes I'll be able to make! And I'm pleased with the progress I've made so far - I'm down 40 pounds, I'm able to walk over a mile without getting winded and exercise is now a joy instead of a burden. Life is good, right? So why am I all of a sudden teary all the time? What the heck? I'm pretty positive most of the time, so I don't really know where these eye leaks are coming from. I'm done with all my pre-op stuff now; just waiting for the day to get here. Is my subconscious somehow mourning the change that is to come to my body? Anyone else had this happen? This weepiness is getting on my nerves, LOL!

Pre surgery diet before the pre surgery diet
Machalo replied to Artinthebox's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did something similar to Liz, too. Each month, I either cut something out that I knew I was going to have to give up anyway, or I lowered the amount of food and upped the Protein. Between trying to get in 5 small meals a day and all that water, it seemed like I always had one or the other in my mouth, or I was on a 30-minute post meal moratorium on water consumption. Those are great suggestions Liz has for alternative foods and sauces, too. I eat a fairly boring diet with an occasional something different thrown in to keep me sane. I think I may incorporate some of her suggestions to my repertoire. All the best to you! -
My liquid only phase is only the day before surgery and then the first week post-surgery. Plus I'm to drink Gatorade G2 both during that day before and the morning of surgery.

That is AWESOME! Congratulations!

Echoing @GreenTealael; HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I hope you had a wonderful one and are feeling great!

Tomorrow is the day!!
Machalo replied to Katheryn0303's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad to hear you are recovering and being discharged today, Krimsonbutterflies! Have they gotten you up to walk often through the night as well? I wonder about that the first day. ((HUGS)) -
Tomorrow is the day!!
Machalo replied to Katheryn0303's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, that is great! Hope I can get in 5000 steps on my first day too, but we'll see. Keep on going, you're doing wonderfully! ((HUGS)) -
I'm fortunate in that my pre-op liquid diet is just the day prior to surgery! It will be the week following that will be liquids for me. Then purees for a week, then soft for a week, then back to introducing real food. I think they may be overly confident about that schedule, but we'll see how I progress. The thing I'm most concerned about is post-surgery, not being able to lift anything over a gallon of milk for 3 weeks. My husband is disabled but will probably be able to lift groceries into the car. Walking them from car to house I'm not 100% sure of though I know he'll try. I've tentatively asked my neighbor and friend if I can borrow her sons to help if needed. Other than that, I'm not really too concerned. Everything seems to be falling into place. I'm now conceptualizing the meals I need to prepare in advance, portion and freeze for my husband for a couple of weeks post-op. I'm checking things off my list of to-do's before surgery, so I'm feeling pretty on top of it right now. Good luck to us all as we prepare for our upcoming events!

Before and after 95# wt loss pics
Machalo replied to Gottanewlife's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Those are super fantastic pictures of your journey! Thank you for sharing them. What an inspiration! -
Talk with your surgical team, they may have guidelines on when it is all right to add supplements back in and some recommendations on what kind to look for.

Mine said no to gummies and vit patches. The patches mainly because there isn't enough research out on their effectiveness at absorption yet. The gummies, same as has been already said - too hard to digest.

I hear that your tastes in foods change after surgery. I don't know if that means texture will be differently interpreted or not too. I'm hoping that I will still enjoy a variety of foods, but who knows? There are lots of people here on the forums that should be able to help give info on this. For a lot of people it seems they experiment a lot to figure out what their new pouch or stomach will tolerate. Sorry, I'm not much help, but I will encourage you to keep looking through the forums because I'm sure it has come up more than once. All the best!

Need more context, dear. Are you talking about being a picky eater in general or becoming a picky eater after WLS? Two different things.
