The grocery bill has not gone down...

I am single, and was spending around $150/month on grocery pre-band. Now, I spend around $30.00. I eat no breads, and very little meat (I eat a lot of beans with every meal,as well as a ridiculous amount of hummus, etc. for protein). It has worked for me-Tracey

    Snack Ideas?

I usually eat 3 Snacks per day. I can only eat about 1/8 of a cup right now (ive been like this the entire time...my dr. is ok with it) so I eat 6 times a day. I usually eat: 1/2 of a granola bar 1/2 a yogart Hummus and 4 tortilla chips 1/3 of a ear of corn bing cherries String cheese Slice of Turkey rolled with mustard
  5. I have a frozen dinner everyday for lunch. Actually, I can't eat more than 1/2 at a time, but I save the other 1/2. I watch the calories, and always eat the meat first, in case I get full. Im single and this is the best for me.

Is 50% all you can lose?

I think thats is a case by case basis. I had surgery 5 months ago today, and I have already lost 30%, with no chance of slowing down at all! I am sill consistantly losing 2 lbs per week at least. Dont be scared by statistics!

    Can ANYONE eat pasta post-banding???

Hi BayCity, I add chicken usually. I love chicken! Im not really a huge beef lover. As much as I was addicted to Pasta before, but now I usually eat more of the chicken/veggies because I crave it more! Your cravings will stop! Tracey

Welcome! Im also a patient of Dr. DeBarros. I was self-pay. SE Elaine-I didn't know you were also!
  14. Im sorry Mom...you might be part of your daughters problem! If she is 5'7, there is NO WAY she is 170 lbs overweight. You expect her to be 110 lbs? She should weight about 145 lbs, which is 125 lbs overweight, heavy, but NOT 110 lbs. Please love and support her. I hope she doesnt know your on the website telling strangers about her. I feel bad for your daughter. Good luck to her, and I really hope your more supportive than you sound. PS-No doctor will give the surgery to a 16 year old, except in Mexico.

    Restrauant list?

Almost everywhere, I order a side dish or soup. You cant go wrong with soups! The only time im sad is at resturants, because I use to LOVE to eat so much! If im out, I check the Soups, and get a cup, or eat the chips and salsa, which is always good. Sometimes they will have a side of fresh veggies, which is great, or a potato, baked or mashed.

How hungry do you feel each day?

I was banded 5 months ago tomorrow. I was absoutely addicted to food before the surgery. I am almost never hungry. I never think about food anymore...its a necessity now. I eat 4-5 small meals a day (like 1/8 cup each meal.) Good luck!

What weight loss plan is everyone following?

Im not really following a plan either. My problem (pre-band) was my carbs. I eat almost no carbs, and it has proven very successful. Now, im trying to go off sugar completely, which is challenging. I keep it between 800-1000 calories a day. I always drink water, trying to stay away from the 'empty calories' in beverages. The no carbs has helped me so much.

When going to a restaurant, what do you order?

Great question. I used to LOVE going out to eat, now I hate it! I am really cheap, so I find it a huge waste to order something I know I cannot eat. When at a fast food resturant, I almost always order from the kids menu. Maybe a grilled cheese sandwich at Sonic, a cup of chili at Wendy's or a single taco at Taco Bell. For a proper resturant, I get chips and salsa, a cup or Soup, side order of mashed potatoes, or something from the appetizer menu. I usually always do soup, as it is the easiest to get down. I gotta say-you do save money on food in the long run! Ha!

    when can you eat meat?

I was required to do a week of liquids only, then a week of mushies, then was able to 'eat normally' on week three. I ate a lot of mashed potatoes and gravy, and even like oatmeal, which was super filling. Good luck to you!

    Did anyone get a dog?

Hello! Fantastic idea! I rescused both of my dogs (a 4 1/2 year old Lab/Huskie mix and a Cocker Spaniel) from Petfinders.org. I love them both! I really contribute my exercising to them, as they really love walks. I think the dog choice for you would depend on your home and lifestyle. Do you have a big backyard? Look into a boxer. They are gentle, but enjoy exercising, and loves people. Just a heads up! Tracey

Can I schedule my fills during my lunch breaks?

I have had 2. The first one lasted 3 1/2 hours (YEA) because my doctor was backed up. This last one was 45 minutes. EVerytime you go for the fill where I go you also have to see the dietetican and the physcologist as well. Ask other patients to see how long your dr. takes. Tracey
