  1. For a few months after my surgery I was waiting for my progress to show. My friend had her surgery years before me and said it was going to come but I didn't believe her. She said give it three months for people to really notice your loss. I was like yeah right! She said I was going to skip sizes. I thought she was lying. She said give it time. I couldn't wait. Well 6 months have come and gone and everything she said has happened!!! My only downfall is I still don't believe it. I still have the "Look" of fat where I had fat. It's just really small now. People don't recognize me. I think they are patronizing me but true/close friends tell me that they aren't. I really am so much smaller now!!! I'm so not done but really starting to enjoy this journey I'm on. I went from a size 20 to a 12. 85lbs so far. 25 left!!

THE 6 MONTHS WAIT IS HARD

I made the call December 2014 and had to wait till May 2015 to have the surgery. I agree with the previous poster--use this time to get used to the requirements of your new post surgery lifestyle. Not drinking during a meal and waiting 30 minutes to drink after. Then chewing slowly each bite. I was with you about losing too much beforehand. Had I lost more than I did I would have been denied. Enjoy your journey. It is the start of your new life.

Trust! Trust your friends! Trust the pictures

By no means did I post for compliments!!! I very much thank you all. I just remember waiting and wondering if the surgery worked or if the doctor even did the right surgery on me. Looking at myself everyday and not "Seeing" a real change, I was down. I want those that are just beginning their journey to know their time is coming.

    I'm hungry....almost 3 weeks post op. I'm going crazy.

I always thought it was fiber you needed to keep full. It's not; it's protein. You need to make sure you're getting in your protein. Shakes are the best way to make sure you meet your mark. I was so hungry the first week thinking the doctor messed up on me and my surgery. I later found out if I load up on protein then I would not be hungry. Three months out and I'm never truly stomach hungry. I smell or see food and I'm always head hungry. Good luck to you

    My worst fear

I just came across this post. I feel the exact same way. I am almost 3 months post op and 50lbs lighter and had this exact thought just yesterday. I am down to a size I used to be but am looking forward to the day I am smaller than I've ever been as an adult.

    protein shake suggestions?

I have been using Isopure unflavored with Dark Chocolate Almond Milk. Just recently I started blending it with a banana and a tbs of fat free peanut butter. Oh YUM!!!! The absolute best!!!!!

    Week 4 and concerned

Everyone goes through a stall at one point. It'll be ok. Your body just has to adjust to the changes. Great job losing so much in the first 3 wks PO

    Vaping after Surgery

I am not on here to debate with anyone. I am only here to give STARS my feedback of personal experience. I started Vaping last year after quitting smoking for 30 years. I did not quit nor will I. I have done my research and you should too. I do know it does not hinder your progress of WL from surgery. My only concern is extra dehydration and dry mouth. Vaping in and of itself dehydrates you. WLS dehydrates you. I guess combined I get doubly dehydrated which in turn I drink way more than recommended. Do your homework and Stay Calm and Vape!

    Stall... Ugh

Well let me vent so I can stay on track!!!

    Insomnia?

Zzzquil is just a money-making Benadryl. My pharmacist let me in on that secret a long time ago. $8.00 for a bottle of Zzzquil vs $.88 for a bottle of generic Benadryl. Look at the ingredients. Thought I'd help a fellow WLS friend!!

    Feeling discouraged

    That's my sleeve date also!!!!
  12. I am 3 wks PO and I had a dream last night. I had lost 100lbs yet I looked exactly the same. All my rolls were still in their same comfortable place they've been for years. That may have come from the fact that I have actually lost 18+ lbs since surgery 30 in total and nothing has changed in the way I can see. Most concerns with the weight not falling off may be coming from looking at before/after pics. Our minds can really play tricks on us. We look at those pics and think they were taken within moments of each other when in fact it's over months and months of hard work. Give it time.

    May 13th - And I haven't told anybody.....

I'm the same way. The stigma that WLS has is so iffy. The first negative I got I stopped sharing the fact that I was having surgery at all. Once I did (5/4/15) and was on liquids for 2.5 weeks it was kind of hard to keep it secret that I couldn't join in the eating. I still haven't gone Facebook official yet. Don't know what I'm waiting for. Maybe a significant drop in size. Who knows? That one negative I got a few months before WLS was my only one. Everyone and all comments have all been super positive and excited for me!!! So happy for that. Side note: It is for sure NOT the easy way out as I put that to rest today at a Hibachi/Chinese buffet. Having to skip over everything on that buffet to settle on Soup and a half of a baked potato I told the server to charge me as a kid for I couldn't pile my plate like the normal customers.

    Stall... Ugh

Don't weigh often= not daily nor weekly. Gains happen. It's natural. You fluctuate from 500 to 700 to 1000 calories and back so your body has to readjust. I came to realize I went from probably 3000-4000 calories on a good day on avg down to 300-500 at surgery my body kind of went into shock. You're learning to live this new life just as your body is learning to live with this new stomach.

    Afraid to start solids

GRITS?????? I was told that's a HUGE no-no!! They swell and expand in your new stomach and no nutritional value anyway. I was devastated hearing that but figured that being the only thing my pallet will never try again for the success of becoming smaller than I ever have been made it better

    Too easy?

I'm 19 PO and the same here. Other than the sudden onset of hopefully temporary lactose intolerance not one problem. I think I took one pain pill after returning home the day after surgery. I am averaging a loss of a pound a day. Had the same concerns of whether or not the doctors did the surgery as directed cause I had no problems. I think all of the horror stories and "Wish I knew that before surgery" vlogs it was natural to be concerned for a lot of us. Thinking we were supposed to have issues but then not kind of threw us for a loop. Consider yourself lucky/blessed when you are a success!!!

    "I've only lost XX lbs..."

Well said!!! May I add The slower you lose the better chance of skin tightening back to your new form!! A loss is a loss no matter the speed at which it falls.
  18. I said the same thing this morning. I'm 11 days P-O. Returned to the gym for the first time last night since surgery and again this morning. I lost 10lbs last week and thought...hmm must have hit the 3 week stall early!!! Man. The calories I burned last night were more than I consumed. So I basically did not eat yesterday. I've always wondered about starvation after the surgery. How is that supposed to help aid is in weightless. Keep up the good work!!! I never thought I could survive this long on liquids and almost caved (a few times). I'm chugging along and determined to get to a size I've never seen!!!

    Just started the process

[quote name="sunshinetinaz" I'm just as impatient!!! Never ceasing to enjoy the moment I'm in. Always wanting tomorrow. If I just think about where I was in December 2014=20lbs heavier than what I am today---it puts things in perspective. It takes time. This too shall pass. We need each other as a community to pull each other through it. I can do it. You can do it. We can do it together!!!!

    Just started the process

It feels to me that I just started my journey yesterday yet in fact it was Dec '14 that I made my first phone call. I thought it would be forever before I could have surgery. I just got sleeved May 4th. It goes by faster than you think. Good luck

    Louisiana Sleevers?

Make the call and go to your first visit. If you're just considering it you will have at least educated yourself in the time it may take to get you to have surgery. I called in December 2014 and just had my surgery May 4th. Some ins co make it a requirement to have 6 monthly office visits. Just do it!!! You have nothing to lose but weight!!!

How bad is the gas pains?

I had exploratory surgery for endometriosis 14yrs ago and the gas pain was unbearable. I was expecting the gas pains for the VSG to be equivalent. It has been so much better. I just feel like wanting to expel the gas one way or another. Very smooth so far
