  1. I had sleeve surgery on July 6. I think that makes me 10 days post op. I have had a mix of emotions in that time. I was surprised by my lack of energy. My son gave me his cootie germs and they have settled in my chest. I am not getting on the scales until my two week date. I was kind of expecting the weight to just fall off and my clothes to become at least somewhat loose. However, I guess between the bloating and gas, that doesn't necessarily happen.

    Pet Peeves of WLS

Everyone in my church knew I was having gastric sleeve surgery. The first time I made it back after my surgery everyone was saying "you look like you've lost a lot of weight" When in reality, I hadn't lost but 2-3 lbs since the surgery. So pet peeve #1, the unwarranted comments about my weight. #2 is the constant question, how much have you lost so far? Really, I just saw you two days ago, this journey takes time. Its those people that haven't seen me for a while and comment on how good I look that make my heart sing! This is kinda like a cross country road trip with a couple of kids. How much further? Are we there yet? Thankfully, I have a sense of humor about this and I can face anything anyone throws at me! This surgery was an answer to a long time prayer. I knew I wouldn't be able to do this without God at my side and he has seen me through it all.

They are also looking at my progress to see if it could work for them or the family.

    13 days post op

I've been feeling a little depressed. My son gave me is chest cold. For a person who has COPD, those germs tend to settle in my chest. So for the last week I have been coughing like crazy. Anytime I lay down, the coughing is so much worse. I did some research about some of the symptoms of acid reflux. wheezing, and coughing when laying down. I'm going to try some Zantac tonight before I go to bed. Before I had my surgery I prayed that whatever happened I would give God the glory and I would do more volunteer work with my church. When will I have the energy to do that? I'm tired of feeling like crap! I'm tired of not having any energy.
  6. Before I had my sleeve surgery I stocked up on Protein powder. I loved the Premier Protein shakes so I thought I would love the powder as well. Guess what? You can shake that powder up till the sun comes up and it still tastes like crappola! I bought a little personal blender, added a little bit of ice, a scoop of powder and whatever else goes with it. For chocolate powder, I add some PB2. The vanilla flavor I add a few pieces of frozen fruit, maybe a quarter of a banana, a couple of fresh strawberries and the nastiness of the powder is gone. Just thought I'd share.

    Day 4-feeling sick?

So the lack of energy and the overall blah feeling, is that normal? I don't have the energy to do anything. It really sucks!

    Day 4-feeling sick?

Still some tenderness at the incision sites, I am going to start walking the neighborhood today. I haven't really been going places, doing some light housework.

    Day 4-feeling sick?

Today, I'm feeling kinda blah. I just drank a protein shake and am feeling full.
  10. I started my process back in May 2015. Preop testing was ordered, when those tests were received, I got the call for my surgeons appointment. That was on June 25. The surgeon told me that scheduling would call me in the next week. When they called, the earliest they could get me in was August 18th. I asked if there were a cancelation, if I could be bumped up. She said that because people are normally waiting a long time for this, they don't usually cancel. She said there was a opening on Monday, but she would need to talk to the doctor. When she called back she said that if I can go to all clear liquid until July 5th and nothing to eat or drink on the 6th. So now I am 4 days post-op gastric sleeve surgery.

    Day 4-feeling sick?

If you're diabetic, do you still take your medicine? What is your glucose level? If the blood sugar gets too low that can make you feel sick too. Also are you taking a Multivitamin? Your Iron may be low as well. I'm also post-op day 4

    well, poo!

How long after surgery did it take you to go poo? I am two days post op and have gurgling in my gut but no "action" When do I start to worry about it?

    Tomorrow is THE day!

Expect to be up and walking within an hour of coming out of recovery. I had 5 little Jello cups at 11:45 pm the night before my surgery. Now, I can't eat one whole one much less 5. For me it is focusing on quality not quantity. You will need a Protein drink like Zero Carb Isopure. It comes in a variety of flavors. I, personally, like the blue. It has 40 grams of protein and you will nurse it that first day of being on the all Clear liquids. You will do great! God Bless, Laurie
  14. My surgery was 45 minutes, but I didn't have a hiatal hernia repair either.

    Post Op Day Two

Today is Post Op day 2. I'm still a little sore. I am drinking the Zero Carb Isopure Protein drink. There are 40 grams of protein in each bottle. I can't guzzle, chug or slam it, so I nurse a bottle most of the day. I had planned on drinking two full bottles every day plus the water. Guess what? It didn't happen. I can drink 1 1/2 bottles in a day. I am down 14 pounds from when I first went to the surgical weight loss center. 11 lbs down from when I started my pre-op diet and zero pounds lost since the surgery. The nurses reassured me that is completely normal. They had pumped me so full of liquids, so when I go pee, I go pee!!! I still haven't had a BM yet. That has me concerned a little, but it's not a big concern just yet. I pray everyone is having an excellent day! Go out and make some good memories!
  16. I am home, surgery was about 45 min, there were no complications. I was up walking in an hour. I'm sore but nothing major. When I get sore, I walk. It helps with the gas that is remaining from the surgery. I gained 3 lbs from the day before but the nurses told me that was normal. They were pumping me full of liquids so I anticipate peeing a lot
  17. I've been nursing a 20 Oz bottle of isopure since 9a.m.. I have to drink 1 1/2 to 2 bottles a day. It's not easy
  18. I am one day post op. I'm good, I'm home. I have a whole bunch of relearning to eat to do! I am on clear liquid diet for 3 days, then switch to full liquid for 10 days, then soft food for 20 days. Protein water is key! To be able to get 60-80 grams of protein in a day, the protein water is the only way I can do that. I can't chug it. It's different.
  19. I had my surgery this morning. I'm a little sore. We had a tornado warning so I had to go to a stairwell shelter area for about 15 minutes. I weighed 11# less than I did when I started the all clear liquid diet. Right now I hurt but I there are pain meds on the way!
  20. I probably would have gorged myself. I will trust that God knows what he is doing! It is only by his grace that all of this is happening in the time it is!
  21. I am two days shy of having my sleeve surgery. I am so stinking hungry! My brother smoked pork butt for the celebration today and I had sugar-free Jello, vegetable juice, and Water. Is it wrong that I snuck a piece and chewed and chewed until all the flavor was gone, then I spit it out. I've got one more day of all clear liquid diet! My family is asking me if I'm sure I want this done or if I'm excited about it. I'm getting a little anxious. I feel a little deprived. When I got the call from the scheduler, the date she gave me was August 18th. I asked if there happened to be a cancellation, if they could bump me up. That's when they were able to get me on July 6th. I went straight to the all clear liquid diet and didn't get the opportunity to have the "last supper". Is that wrong?
  22. I got the call from the scheduler at the hospital this morning. Originally the surgery date was August 11th. I asked if there were any cancellation, if I could be bumped up. She said there was an earlier date but she would need to call me back. When she called back...I have surgery on Monday July 6th. I have to go on the clear liquid diet until Sunday and be at the hospital at 5:30 am to do stat lab work... still in shock! I wasn't expecting it to be this soon but am incredible grateful for the opportunity I am being given to have this surgery!

    Just starting process

I'm starting to get worried about my pre-op appointment. I wish I could just do it and get it over with. I have all of the chewables (multi-Vitamin, Calcium, & B12) I have found a Protein shake that I like. I have stocked up on broth and sugar-free Jello. It's similar to being pregnant and being in week 38. You have the nursery ready, plenty of bottles and diapers. You're just waiting for the action to happen! Only thing is, I can't walk around to help induce labor! I'm concerned about the exercises. I have COPD that will drastically improve with weight loss, but at the current time, I cannot walk long distances and I can't stand for long periods of time without my back hurting for 2 days afterward. I have certain goals that don't have to do with pounds. I want to be able to cook dinner for my church youth group and then be able to serve it as well. I want my daughter to be able to hug me and get her arms all the way around me. I want to be able to ride a bicycle with my kids and go jogging with them. I want to be able to wash more than 3 pair of jeans and still have room in the load.

    Just starting process

I have my first appt with the surgeon on June 25th. I've done all the testing and medical clearance. I'm praying nothing happens to stop the process.
