demsvmejm; How is the food scale working out?
-
Thanks again LongHorn. I tends to forget that everyone is different which of course will have different results. But you explained it more with the "different sized stomachs or thickness of the stomach" and "the opening between the new pouch and the rest of the stomach smaller." I'm just looking for that right spot to get past this part and get to my band restrictions. But, this weight didn't come on over night, so it won't go away the same way. And I'll read the forum post again. Thanks again
-
Thanks for the info. I've also just read of the 4cc bands. And some of them have yet to reach their sweet spot. Then I've read that some people are or have reached their spot at 7cc of the higher bands. I'm a little over 3cc and have not reached restriction of my 10cc band quite. So what are the options when the person who have the 4cc band, reaches 4cc and have not reached a restriction? Have you read of someone that has happened to?

Good Evening All, Momlambert: I just want to thank you again about drinking tea/something before your meal. I drank some tea, but it was only warm and had another p-bing attack. The next time I drank "hot" tea and things were much better. Even drinking it about 30 min. before my meal. From now on I will drink tea when possible or maybe hot soup before any first meal of the day. Janine: it's great that you'll have quality time with your son. Especially something that you're both interested in. Are you using the meal plan or just winging it? I am in stage 3 myself. I'm going to stick with it till I reach my goal weight. It keeps me on track better than being on my own. I'm also close to restriction somewhere between .1 - .3cc more and I should be there. My meals are keeping me more full than previously, so that's good. I didn't get to the gym this week. And I just found out that the gym installed new equipment. So, I don't feel too bad about not going. I'll be going Monday for sure just to see what they are. Hoping everyone will have self control for the weekend.

What consistutes a full "CC" fill? i.e. if .25 = 2oz. .50 = 4oz. .75= 6oz. 1.00 = 8oz. 8oz = 1 cup. How are "cc's" calculated? I've had, .1cc, .2cc, .3cc, not higher, so how much is a full, "1cc" fill? I hope it's clear what I want to know? thanks for any info.

Where's everyone? I feel like everyone moved to the new place and forgot to tell me. Well, had a better day at lunch today. Drank a cup of hot tea an hour before lunch. So, this is what I'll do now to get through a meal that needs much chewing. Hope everyone's okay.

How do you determine goal weight?
Whitepants replied to travelchick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree with what everyone has said. My doctor didn't really say how much he thinks I should way. But, of course we both know it needs to be at least 100lbs of my then 297lb. That would put me at 197lb, but I want 175lb no less than 155lb. He didn't object to what I want to weigh. The chart says 130lb - 155lbs. I can't see myself at 130.bs. In looking at my daughter who is 155lbs - 160lbs, I might be able to handle that. But, what ever the size of my WhitePants, that's where I want to be. The tag is out, so I have no idea what size they are. I know I can let my daughter get into them. But, that'll put more pressure on me to get to that size before I get to my goal weight. Have a great day and stay the course. -

Thanks for the info. The 10 and 14 cc's may have been earlier. For I was banded with the 10cc in March,2007. But, I'll put this question out there when I have my next support group meeting. Have you reached a restriciton yet? I'm just about there, but, feel I can do with one more. Anywhere from 1cc - 3cc. -

HarleyNana, glad everythng went okay for you. You're able to be on the computer means you're well on the road to recovery. I envy you for going through with the surgery. NoMoreYoYo, I'm with you when it comes to the long term effect of this lapband. I've been researching the lapband vs all the gastric bypass and opted for the lapband. This procedure has been in existence for about 20+ years. But, as everything, new and better comes about every few years. So, we are not the new generation on the band we have, but still not enough data. So, in a sense we're pioneers. Just recently in being on Lap Band Talk and another site, I now know that the new band is a 4cc band. So, I'm wondering how some patients fair on that, when it takes some people about 7cc to reach restriction? For those that are reporting on their 4cc band, I haven't read of one reaching their restriction yet? If you have please let me know what they've had to say. Thanks. Everyone have a positive day. -
Good Morning Everyone, lunch went better yesterday. Breakfast went down okay, oatmeal again. About an hour before lunch I drank a cup of tea, like you said Momlambert. Took m&m bite size and waited for a reaction. There were none. Did this for the firt ten minutes, then was able to eat the rest of my lunch. When all possible, I'll drink something hot first if possible. lala3000, that's good what the doctor told you. Keep up the good work. That happened to me in the beginning and it's a good feeling. Have a good day everyone and stay positive.

Good Morning Everyone, Janine, you're welcome. We're here for each other and ths also let you know the problems we're all experiencing in our lives. The situation may be different, but the principle is the same. As for the shaking it was furing exercising. When I've added more weights to the gym machines or did more heavier/longer reps, And don't forget you're to rest 30 to 60 seconds between exerciese/reps and stretch before and after exercising. And pleny Water during. Also, did you eat aleast an hour before exercising? Jeni 85, don't forget, at some time during the day, you will be taking some type of break. Use that time to exercise. Even if it's only 5 minutes, during a commerical ( leg lifts, flexing your ankles), standing in line (calf toe raises), bathroom time (squats), you can get exercises in anytime and place. Use your textbooks as weights, can food foods, juice containers, something, anything. Some exercise is better than none. Then when you can work in a plan, take advantage of it. Momlambert, I'm going to cut up my pieces like m&m sizes today and see how they go down. chicken legs again. Fish on Wednesdays and Fridays. What else could be next? Talking about a journey, this sure is one full of knew adventures and obstacles. Oh, Juli, what other free website have you visted that have meal plans and trackers? I didn't know I had joined Fitday already, I just never accessed the site once I'd joined. Hope you and your daughter have great fun at the pool... I hope to have more confidence and get in the water this year. I was ready last year but didn't get there. Well, everyone have a good and successful day.

Mrs. Husker, you're so bad, so bad. Nice to see he's paying attention. Keep up the good work. Just want to share this. I think I'm reaching my restriction. I experienced again today, what I hope will be the last PBing. I had oatmeal and banana for breakfast went down okay. Thinking this problem was a morning thing, I didn't eat lunch till after 1 pm. Well, the steamed chicken thigh went down okay. Was looking for the experience to happen then, but it didn't. When time to eat the leg, that's when all hell broke loose. The sensation was worse than last week. I took extra small bites, so small a baby could of chewed it. It felt like it was swelling in my chest and burning, oh the burning. Took a sip of water and that was the worse thing to do. I know now what the gurgling feels like, the chicken felt like it was fizzing, couldn't burp, hurt to swallow, slouching over to help relieve the pain, (did not work), couldn't breath, etc. Couldn't find the Beano, so I took a Zantac type pill, not sure if it helped or not. Juli, I experience that saliva you mentioned. Good thing the garbage pail was by. It's a wonder I didn't up-chuck my insides. Only thing that came up was the water I drank and maybe the pill. And more fluid came up than what went down. I did alot of spitting. This time it took longer to recover. I was afraid to finish my lunch. So, I don't think it's a morning thing, just the first few bites of anything solid, or tends to be dry (maybe). Had no problem with dinner. Went down okay. Now, how to get around those first few bites? Horrible, Horrible. And to think I want another fill? I going to rethink that. Or maybe just have a .1cc fill. I don't know. I'm bond to lose weight now. Everyone have a good night's sleep

Oh Juli, I went to the BodyBugg website. Unless I overlooked it, is there some way I can access the 12 week program without having to pay for the entire program?

FYI: I finally found a protein powder I LOVE!!!
Whitepants replied to MamaJava's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Everyone, just reading up on past posts. Just want to add that this may also be a good drink after exercising. For I read after any extreme exercising you do, you should take in about 90g of protein within 2 hours after exercising. So I'll be giving this a try. Since I exercise after work, this will keep me from overeating when I get home. Keep those helpful tips coming. Thanks -

the closest to that I've ever become is my daughter is 32 and people who don't know us think I'm her older sister. So this is why I need to get back into those white pants. As she gets older I get younger. :welldoneclap: -
How do you determine goal weight?
Whitepants replied to travelchick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi I just viewed the People Choice Ideal Weight. And what they listed is 172lb. My ideal is 175lb no less than 165lbs the least, so I don't feel off target of what I want. The medical wt. is 114lbs - 150lbs. I shudder to think of being that small. My daughter is 160lbs and looking at her I don't think I can mentally or emotionally handle that weight. Then again, what ever weight I need to be to get back into my best weight pants, that's where I'll be and stay. Those white pants was at my best weight, felt good and looked good in them. So, I'm staying in this group, for I have 67lbs to get there. And I want to; no, I am going to lose that before my b'day, July 3. So I have to lose them by June 30. So, I can wear my white pants for my birthday. :welldoneclap: So, let's get this party on the road. -
Janine, coming here and expressing your issues can be very therapuetic to us. For our life issues plays a major part on our health and we as caregivers need to be at our best. I had said earlier coming here to vent is as therapuetic as going to a therapist. 1. we see come here when we can, 2. it's free 3. others can relate to what's bothering us. And we can get honest straight forward advice and empathy. From dealing with our mates, with or without their help is very taxing. Just when you think you're at your wits end someone says something that makes you see you are handling thngs right. You may even be able to see and solve your own problems. Especially with what weapons we have at hand. And for having teenage children as we see, is no easy job. No matter what age our children are. There was a time my now 16 yr old had become friends with a fast moving classmate, a worried parent, police and fire departments and a housing violation summons come to my house. Not to mention numerous calls from school. All this in a span of 2 years. Things have calmed down now. They do try our nerves, but we won't let them win. For if they win we lose in our struggles to get control over our weight. But I wished I had a place like this to come to. For that was a time I had begun to be serious about losing weight. Since I'm an emotional eater, those two years did not help me much. But since the band and being on sites like this I feel more confident that I will make it. And so will you. So don't fret, we understand how you're feeling. We may not know how you're feeling, but we understand. We're here for each other.

Good Day To All: Oh Juli, thanks for the info on P'Bing. I am now convinced the first meal of the day, Breakfast cannot be of anything with consistency. Even eggs. The last few mornings breakfast did not go down well. Haven't tried oatmeal yet, but anything that needs to be chewed well is not happening. Well, that leaves hot Cereal, not a fan of cold or Protein drink. I don't like milk and have issues with the milk if it's more than one cup. So, now it's either no breakfast or eat something about 10:30 - 10:45 am. That's when I'm able to take a break and eat something. Now that I'm close to being more restrictive, what else might I experience? My next fill in 2/6. That should put me at the restriction I'm looking for. About calories, I try to stay within 1100 - 1200 calories. Sometimes I can exist on 800 - 1000, but you're right, it's not good. I lose weight too. But remember the calories you burn during exerise is taken away from your daily calorie intake. If your calories for the day is 1200 and you burn 700 calories, then your daily calorie intake is only 500. Once again sending your body into starvation mode. I didn't lose any hair during the early months after the surgery, but I do notice now that my finger nails are harder and growing together. Not too much breakage, splitting or snagging. So everyone keep up those exercises and drink plenty of wate. Hope to read positive results soon. And thanks for the info.

Hi All, - Everyone's getting on board with the exercise. I did 10 minutes of level 10 on the bike, it was a struggle, but I think I got the same results of 20 min at a lower level. Going to try for 15min at level 10 next. Levels 6 and 7 are feeling like 3 and 4. I use those levels as my 5 minute cool down. Tammy, 11 pounds, you'll hit soon. Then it's on to maintaining your brand new weight. I won't be there any time soon. But look forward to seeing you get there. Then you can tell us what's it's like on that side of the fence. Did that scale come in yet? If so, how is it working for you? Didn't order mines yet, still trying to find it cheaper. metawnny- when I feel that I'm about to blow it, I take a yogurt drink filled with fruits and powdered "Protein mix" or have tunafish and crackers or deli slices. Anything to keep from eating a full meal. And I mean a full meal. Even though I measure them, they're still a full meal. I've come across the word P-bing, what does that mean? I have an idea but need to be sure. I haven't quite figured it out yet, but do anyone have trouble eating semi-solid foods in the mornings, ie scrambled eggs/omelets? The first bite and they were small and I felt it was well chewed felt tight going down. The second and third bites did the same. I felt so bad, I thought they would just sit where they were. My throat and chest began to burn and I felt like I couldn't breath. The one time I wished it would come back up. When they reached my stomach it felt worse. After about 15 minutes the sensation began to ease and the food went down. After my stomach calmed down, I was then able to finish it. I'm not sure if this will be a morning thing to be careful with. This has happened after my last fill I had last week. I understand why it happened with tunafish and crackers also egg sandwich, for Breakfast dry food, but "eggs"?. I hope this won't be problem now. I know some meats, like chicken breast is suggeted not to eat. I haven't had any since my fill, so not sure if that will be a problem too. Now that I'm thinking about it, I really haven't eaten meat since last week. Mostly fish, am I on the road to becoming a vegetarian? My daughter would like that very much? Well, everyone have a great weekend. Looking to read positive results from everyone.

Good Day Everyone, yesterday was a good day for me. Great job Jeni 85!!!! You are an inspiration to us all. I know you're very proud of yourself for making the change to your life around. Keep up the good work, taking joy in your success. Lost 1 pound and walked more than 27,000+ steps. I was concerned that I wasn't getting in my 10,000 steps that they say you should walk. So, now that's not much of a challenge. Maybe I'll try for the gym 3x a week the new challenge/goal. But, I'll still where the pedometer. Went to my support group yesterday. Since it was the first meeting of the year, all the WLS patients were there. One woman is about to go for total body makeover. And her insurance is paying for "ALL" of it. Another woman was there from having her surgery on Tuesday, this week. It was a week before I ventured outside. I also referred another lapband person to this website and maybe someone to bond with on this journey. I was able to help her with some of the issues we all experienced and experiencing here. Juli, I don't have acid reflux often. But when I do, I take Beano, that seems to help. Need to cut back on my carbs, this also keeps me from losing more. I've been eating bread almost daily for the last two weeks along with Pasta (mac & Cheese), no-nos. Well, hope everyone will have a great weekend and keep eating right. That 1 pound lose is incentative for me now. Thanksgiving and X-mas must be a thing of the past.

Hey All, Oh Juli, in addition to still measuring my foods, I also use the measuring spoons and cups when I seasoning my foods and cooking in batches. I carry my lunch in a container about 6 1/2" x 5" x 2". It's just enough to keep me from overeating a lunch. Small container that hold about 3 or 4 oz of food for my snack. This may help someone. So, did you see if you were off in your measuring when you eyeballed your foods? Also, another method of eating I use is called "Food Combining", some may of heard of it. You combine Proteins w/vegetables, carbs w/vegetables, vegetables w/vegetables, acid fruits w/sub-acid fruits, eating certain meals at certain times of the day. This way of eating helps the digestive system digest foods. This may help with acid reflux, maybe. For more reading of this I've found the About.com to be informational. Mrs Husker, I put a new battery in my pedometer yesterday and clocked 1500+ steps more than 3 miles and 8500+ was from being at the gym, bike and treadmill. And that was from 1:45pm when I put the new battery. Today I clocked 17,291 at 8:16pm of the posting. You'r right about SparkPeople. Eating their suggestions can be hard since you can pick and chose from the day's menu. Then eating every, evrery thing can put you over. But, still Good. So, continued good luck with that. Juli did you get a chance to visit there yet? Read up on the scale, it is pricey, but I'm going to spring for it if I can't find it cheaper. I still have problems in gettting in my 64g of proteins and 35g of Fiber, what are you doing to get them in? This is what my nutritionist suggests I get in daily. Mrs Husker, this is where I would go over the 1200 calories in trying to get them in. Woo, you are going for hi-tech workouts, the most I've tried is the one that gives you the motions of skating. Was huffing and puffing, and that was only 3 minutes. Good for you. Keep those ideas coming!!! I'm so glad for this group. Till tomorrow. Good Night All.
-
I like the sound of that scale. Shoulds like you'll be able to meal planning easier and quicker. I'm all for weighing my foods, even though I can pretty much eyeball it now. Going to check it out. Thanks for the encouraging words. Scale didn't go down, but felt great for I did complete all my goals for Tuesday.

Meeting my restriction since my fill of .3 on 1/2/08. Eating a little less, but seem to be staying full longer. Had one pack of oatmeal, held me for about 3 real good hours. Then had 3oz of applesauce for AM snack. Didn't feel real hungry, but wanted something to keep from getting there. Had lunch of 1 steamed chicken leg and legumes for lunch. Had PM snack of a lettuce salad with one hard boiled egg and dressing. Gave up eating 4 didn't types of cheese cake for a birthday dessert party and soda. So proud of myself. Did take some party chips. Came home and had 5 spring rolls for dinner. I wasn't too hungry, but knew if I waited till later, I'd over eat and it was already after 7:30pm. I must say, I'm proud of how I handled myself. Reading the rants and raves, I'm glad to say, I'm Single. I'm victim to Been There, Done That, glad he's gone. Everyone Have a Great Day and Be Well.

Happy New Year Again. This year I plan to really take one day at a time, and not start another goal until I've sucessfully done one. In setting new goals I completely forgot that Ito get my goals done I must get to work early. I have a 60 min window to get to work without being late. But the later I get to work, the more discouraged I get to go to the gym. My goal is 2x a week to the gym. Walk 20 - 30 min after lunch and 3x a week after work. I had a lot of catching up to read to get up to speed with everyone. And as usual I saw myself in everything I read. I need to log on more so I'm not out of the loop too much. One topic I want to comment on is eating. Weighing your food is very important, even if you can eyeball it, measuring at time keep you on track. I see my nutritionist once a month, is anyone else? Mine is very helpful in showing me ways to tweat my food intake. As for the Protein I do find it hard to get them in, so I take a Protein Drink more often now. Since I've cut back on the Snacks to get them in. The snacks was giving me the protein, but sending my calorie intake out of control. As for binging, remember what caused us to over eat in the first place, boredom, stress, emotions, cravings, whatever. Find something to replace it and step back. You know you can do. I felt good each time I did 'cause I realized what I was about to do. And felt a victory over it. Coming here is second to talking to a therapist. Sometimes I want to see one but coming online helps me better. So Let's Get Those Goals on the way. We have a few more weeks to get our One Year Anniversary Goal. We have not reach our weight goal, but we're pounds less that last year. WE CAN DO THIS.
-
Happy, Happy, Happy New Year to Everyone. I wish for each and everyone of us to reach our goal this year. Our personal goals and weight goals. Just plan a course and see it through. I went and had another fill today. The doctor wouldn't give me 1cc nor a .5cc fill, so we settled on .3cc fill. So, I have over 3cc in my band now. Drank 36oz cups of Water (18oz). Although I had no problem drinking it, I did feel a little full, but I feel that way after drinking water anyway. So I'm not sure if it's a restriction or not yet. Came home and was able to eat a small meal, but did not feel any restriction. So, I'm hoping it'll kick in soon. Only gained 1lb since 12/6/07, when I got my last fill. Go figure, with all I ate :hungry: from Thanksgiving up till yesterday. SparkPeople - I joined them in July/07. I'm now in Stage 3 of their SparkDiet. I found it very easy to follow. It was committing to it that was hard. Following the Nutrition/Food and Fitness Trackers, I found it fun. Making some of their recipes are easy and as you can see, you can change the menu if/when you choose. The recipes are of foods that you use daily, even the seasons... How did you hear of them? I have to check out the Fitday.com to compare. Starting off simple this year, will continue to go to the gym 2x a week/1 - 2 hours. 3x a week walk 1 mile then take the bus home. Along with 30 min walk after lunch. I have a pedometer, so will try to get in 5,000 steps. Not sure about 10,000 steps a day. As for the leg cramps, when that happens to me, it's because my potassium is low. I'll eat a couple of bananas to bring my potassium back up and then I'm okay. Another good source of potassium are those saltless salts. I'm using Morton's Salt substitute. I tried the Nu-Salt, but did not like it. It gives you the recommended daily amount of potassium. Have anyone tried them yet? If so, what's you take on them? Also, what other substitute can be shared here? Well, I'll stop here. Let's make it happen. :clap2:
