  1. Congratulations cherita! I know you are excited. Keep up the good work
  2. Dan, I think I celebrated a little "too soon" about my sweet spot. I'm not going to give up because I can tell a difference. I'm still waiting for the point when I can only eat a cup of food and can't take another bite. This whole journey varies so much but I know we will get there. At least I know someone else beside my husband and myself are experiencing this. I would like to really know what people are eating. What are the types of food and the amount that is consumed? I know some people eat the hard Protein first and then veggies. Any suggestions anyone?

Nymphs around the world check in!

holly, could you please tell me what you eat in a typical day. I have some restrictions but I can definitely eat more than a cup of food. What is your eating regime?
  5. Hello all, I hope I'm not celebrating too early, but dare I say it..... I've hit my sweet spot at about 12.75cc. or 13ccs. I had a fill yesterday and was on liquids only. Today I'm on soft and call finally tell a difference. I'm satisfied with a little yogurt, and 1 soft boiled egg. OMG!, please keep supporting me. I'm so excited. I actually feel satisfied and realize ok, your done, don't eat any more. So hang in there big dan
  6. Big dan, I definitely have to chew well now, but I'm still capapble of eating more than a cup. I think with my next adjustment and increasing the intensity of my workouts I'll get there. I think what I looking for is a sense of fullness when I eat. Something that says you've had enough, rather than me saying you've had enough and backing away. I want to use those two things together
  7. I have 12cc in a 14cc band. Finally fill a little restricition, but not all the way there. Getting scared this may not work. had surgery on 11/28/07. Please help

    November Nymphs Pictures

Wow you look great! You and I share the same band date. Could you give me some idea of what you eat? I've lost about 44lbs and seem to be at a plateau. I have a 14cc band and just had a 3cc fill under fluro that puts me at about 12ccs. I can finally fill some restriction, but can definitely eat more than a cup of food. I'm really starting to get discouraged.

    Dr. Moran / Raleigh NC

Hi, Dr. Moran did my surgery in Nov 07 and my husband's in Dec 07. He is an excellent surgeon and very knowledgeable. His beside manner is a little dry and conservative, but he does come around and have a sense of humor. It's truly what you make it. This is truly a personal decision to make, but if I had to do it all over again, I would still chose Dr. Moran. He is incredibly skilled and efficient and is making breathroughs in this area and is beginning to train other physicians on how to perform the surgery. He is committed to you and takes a conservative approach to make sure if possible you can avoid, all the pbing, sliming and not so glamorous things that come along with the surgery. I must say I have been able to avoid these things. Intially, I thought his staff didn't have it together, but I was mistaken. They have gone the extra mile, over and over and it doesn't stop at the surgery. They are always available, and run the monthly support group. Dr. Moran, recently hired a PA to assist him and now has a nutrionist that comes weekly to the office. They are also about to expand in their current location, to accomodate the growing practice. I support Dr. Moran and his staff. If you feel uncomfortable, let him know that, he responds and is genuinly interested in your well being. At any rate, good luck to you and don't count Dr. Moran out.

    Conflicting advice...HELP!

what are some of the reasons he gave for being against the lap band
  11. Hi Everyone, I was banded 28 Nov 07 and have lost 44lbs so far. I'm getting discouraged because after 7 fills I still don't have restriction. My will power is getting a little low. I think I have about 4.25 cc in a 14cc band and my doctor is conservative with the fills, about.5 cc's at a time. The largest fill I've received has been 1cc and another at 0.75 cc's. I'm starting to wonder if this was the best decision, since I can still consume alot of food. I know I will get there, but I didn't know it would take so long. For 2 months I didn't lose any weight. Then I finally lost 3lbs before my last fill, which was about a week ago. I haven't noticed any difference yet. Any suggestions?

    Sweet Spot Advice needed

Thanks for the encouragement. My Dr. usually likes to fill every 4 weeks. My husband and I got banded a week apart, so when he goes in I get him to tell the Dr. I haven't noticed any change. This time he told him he would probably want to fill me under fluro. In my opinion I don't think anything is wrong with the band. I just don't have enough of a fill yet, but if he wants to be cautious, then I can go along with being proactive. He charges $500 a fill. Thank God my insurance covers 100% each time. I know it will happen but the mental game is definitely a challenge. Maybe ifI had known going in that it could possibly take this long I would have been better prepared. I don't mind the weight coming off slowly, I just think I would have a better success rate if I had proper restriction. I would probably lose the recommended 10lbs per month instead of 0-3lbs a month. Please keep in touch because I definitely need the support.
  13. My port feels like it is right under the incision when I'm sitting or standing, but if I lie down on my back it is quite lower. So try that and see if you notice a change in its location. You can really tell by lying on your back as if you were about to get a fill, with your back slightly arched and pushing your stomach outward.
  14. Sometimes the social world thinks being thin is the solution to everything but it isn't. First and foremost love yourself no matter what size! I can understand your feelings and I commend you on your accomplishments. I would suggest that you obtain counseling, to deal with the emotional issues that come with the new you. Please Celebrate the person that you are... you mentioned you're kind and honest and seek truth. It does place you in an area that's uncharted when all of sudden people are looking at you and not pretending that you aren't there and actually want to carry on a conversation. I don't blame you for mistrusting them and their motives, however they can't see the mental transformation that you must go through as well. That's why I suggested counseling as tool to guide you to through the mental changes as well. Approach this the same way you did when approaching exercise and healthy eating...one day at a time. You will suceed... you've already succeeded in making me realize I can do this!
  15. Hang, in there. When did you get banded, and what type of success have you had. Remember day by day is the journey. In order to have a different result, we can't continue to do the same things. Some days are harder than others and we must endure.

    too tight

Please go to the ER and have some fluid remove, the Dr's there will be able to help. This could lead to serious problems. Your first fill shouldn't have been half you band capcity. Make sure your dr is more conservative the next time, maybe in 0.5 cc increments:cursing:

  18. Hi everyone, I had surgery in Nov. of 2007 and have lost 41 lbs. However I haven't hit restriction yet. I've developed quite the sweet tooth since about a month ago. I never had a sweet tooth before and didn't do a lot of snacking. Has anyone else experienced this?

    Ok guys please help...

Thanks everyone for your reply. The battle that goes on in the mind gets overwhelming, so I know I must use willpower to get through. It gets tough. I will try the advice of positive thinking and speaking aloud to myself. Thanks again

    No Restriction

I think I would give it a little more time, you have to consider the size of your band and how much weight you still have to lose. 30lbs since Jan is fantasic. somtimes the restriction might not kick in right away it could be delayed up to four weeks. hang in there!
  21. Hey Guys, Please give Dr. Moran a chance. He's an excellent surgeon. Yes he is a bit dry on the bedside manner, but he does come around and actually can crack a few jokes here and there. The main thing I like about him, he doesn't go crazy with the fills, he allows your body to adjust so that you'll have the best outcome. Janell, his RN is very kind and will go the extra mile to help you, pre and post surgery. There have been some changes in the office staff and I'm happy with the decision I've made. Just remember you have to be comfortable with your decision, but I highly recommend him. He's highly skilled.
