    Shelly's ricotta bake- OMG

I ate that every day for a week! I also loved the black bean puree with greek yogurt on top! Yum!!
  2. Thats tough and I really understand where you are coming from. Since surgery I have discovered just how addicted to sugar I really am. I crave it from morning until bedtime. I have tried eating very small amounts of sweet fruit and it helps control my cravings and keeps me from raiding the cookie cabinet. If a craving hits, I'll have a small bite of cantaloupe or watermelon and then wait. If I'm still wanting something I drink some Water and get moving (take a walk, clean the house, etc). Its the only solution I have found to help me work through it.

    Post-op Meal Phases

My post-op diet was: Week 1 clear liquids- sugar free (broth, Jello, popsicles, Fruit drinks, sherbert, Water, decaf coffee and tea, skim milk, Protein shakes) Week 2 full liquids- (all the same as above but can add low fat or fat free yogurt and cottage cheese) Weeks 3 & 4 pureed foods- ( food pureed with liquid to applesauce consistency, can add spices) Weeks 5 & 6 soft foods - (soft cooked moist meats and veggies, soft fruit, ground lean meat) After week 6 I can have pretty much anything I can tolerate with the exception of alcohol and salad. I have to wait until 6 months post op to add those things. From what I have learned on here, doctors vary greatly on their post op diets so ask any and all questions so you fully understand yours. I emailed my poor NUT several times a week in the beginning but she was great!

    TMI! Question

I tried Dulcolax but it gave me cramps (worked though). Switched to Miralax and it took longer to start working, but works great for me. I almost gave up after 5 days but my NUT told me to stay with it. I put a scoop in my (decaf) coffee every other morning now and still have great results!

    Acid Reflux

I never had acid reflux before surgery, but it was horrible right after. I started on Prilosec OTC every morning, and Zantac at bedtime. After 4 weeks I was able to quit taking the Zantac but I still take Prilosec in the morning. I am 7 weeks post-op and its getting much better! Hoping to discontinue the Prilosec at month 3 and see how it goes...
  6. Don't forget to pack a robe that has a button or zipper front. They will want you up and walking soon after surgery and you'll most likely be in a hospital gown that opens in the back. I just draped mine over my shoulders for modesty's sake.

    Eating Restriction

I was just saying this same thing to my husband today... We went to Outback for dinner last night and I ordered the 6 oz. filet. I could barely eat 2 oz. Brought it home and heated it up for lunch today and I was able to eat the rest of it (4 oz.), minus one large bite that he had. Some mornings I can eat a whole egg with low fat cheese and then other mornings I can only eat about half. Unfortunately I have found that chocolate donuts are a slider food for me though, I ate 3 in one sitting last week and could've eaten more. They are no longer allowed in my house, lol!
  8. I was the exact same way until I started on the soft food phase. I think liquids and thinner foods move through the sleeve faster so we can take more in. Wait until you can eat something like refried Beans, I can make 3 meals from one small container from Taco Bell, and I can only eat a few Tbs of chicken or tuna salad at a time.
  9. I have too many to list but the one that sticks out in my mind happened this past Christmas. Someone gave us a HUGE box of delicious cookies from my favorite bakery. My husband brought the box in before going to work and I had eaten the whole thing by the time he got home that night. It was probably 3 dozen various cookies, some of which I really didn't care about but they were here and I had no self control. I was so ashamed I lied :-( and told him I gave some to my parents and siblings who live close by. I had been doing Weight Watchers for a year and that started my gaining spiral again. I never want to feel like that again, or have to lie to the person I love the most because I'm a slob!! It still bothers me!

    Resume omeprazole anyone?

I was also sleeved in Mexico and my doctor sent me home with their version of Prilosec. He told me to start taking it immediately (in the morning), and that if needed, I could take Zantac at night. I NEVER suffered with heartburn/acid reflux before surgery but have it severely now. I don't plan to try getting off of it for several months, I'm only 3 1/2 weeks out from surgery...

    Fast food favorites?

I don't eat a lot of fast food but if my kids want Taco Bell, I'll splurge on an order of Pintos and Cheese. I can't eat the whole container but it tastes so good and a great source of protein!
  13. I only told my immediate family (husband, parents, one of my children) and best friend. They are all sworn to secrecy!

Any Couch To 5 k people?

Before surgery I had great luck with the couch25K app. I had never been a runner, and never got really fast but was happy with my results overall. I'm only 3 weeks out from surgery, but plan to restart as soon as my doctor releases me for more strenuous activity! My next goal will be a half marathon if I can stay hydrated enough!
  15. Yesterday was my husband's birthday and I had a tiny piece of his cake. It made me feel dreadful for a couple of hours. I am almost 3 weeks out from surgery, I chewed it very well and ate it slowly but I won't be doing that again! It was chocolate cake with chocolate icing and about a 2x2" piece. Lesson learned!
  16. Awesome! We also love cruising and try to take 1 or 2 per year. I've been worried because eating and drinking are a large part of our entertainment! Thanks for the great post, it encourages me that it can be done! I look forward to my first cruise that I don't gain 5-7 lbs! Great idea about bringing a Water bottle too!
