Blue Cross of Florida just crushed my dreams
LousPeachy replied to stuart85's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am so very sorry. And don't EVEN get me going on the so called Affordable Care Act. I am in Texas. Medicare pays for surgery and my AARP supplemental insurance picks up the rest as long as Medicare covers some of it. I think it is beyond stupid not to cover surgery if it is medically necessary. I will be praying things can be worked out for you. BTW, is that dollar amount you mentioned what you pay through the ACA? If so, all I can say is Yikes! -
I CAN'T BELIEVE I ATE THE WHOLE THING
LousPeachy posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
YUCK!!! I feel so horrible! I had forgotten how miserable I felt when I kept eating after I was no longer hungry..... A new Chick-Fil-A just opened this week right down the street from me. On the way home from the doctor, I decided to stop and get one of their Cobb Salads. Home I came with my salad. After eating much smaller meals the last 5 weeks, I was so enjoying my salad. Then, about 1/8 of the salad eaten, I pushed away the bowl and told my husband I was FULL. All was well in my tummy. THEN I kept looking at the rest of the salad and started eating "just one more bite". I was FULL after 1/8 of the salad. I mean my PHYSICAL HUNGER WAS GONE but for some totally assinine reason, i ended up eating the WHOLE THING, plus a big glass of their Heavenly diet lemonade. Now I am stuffed to the gills and feel physically ill. Oh my goodness, I had FORGOTTEN how utterly terrible I felt when I pigged out! One good thing, I doubt if I will EVER do that again. My wonderful Cobb Salad has given me an upset tummy. Too much of a good thing. I FEEL SO STUPID. Next time I will order a SIDE salad. Why do we revert back to old habits so easily?!?! I ended up NOT really enjoying my wonderful treat. It's like waking up with a hangover. We say NEVER AGAIN. This time I think I really have learned my lesson. NEVER AGAIN..... -

Woke up today with a renewed pledge NOT to EVER AGAIN stuff myself and overeat when I am already full -
Well, tomorrow I see the NUT for visit 1 of 4. I was hoping to find out what Dr. Turnquest decided about doing surgery on me (Non-Alcoholic Cirrhosis) but I have the feeling I won't. Earlier this week they hadn't gotten my records from the liver doctor (liver dr said 7-10 business days). It has been over 10 days but I doubt I will know anything one way or another tomorrow. Any suggestions how I can get things moving so I will know? You know how a doctor's office staff can be. I really don't like (can't stand) waiting another month! Besides that, I have so many tests, etc that have to be done pre-op, as you all know, and I don't want to do any of that till I know for sure I am having surgery. Waiting is pure hell!

WILL I KNOW TOMORROW?
LousPeachy replied to LousPeachy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well, my records finally got to Dr. Turnquest's office today so naturally he wasn't able to review them yet. I was told he is good about doing so and I should know by Wednesday or Thursday of next week one way or the other. Not much longer and THAT part will be taken care of anyhow. The NUT told me I was losing great and what I was eating was fine. She did say however, that the number of calories I was eating was NOT sustainable. And she is right, not enough calories to keep me from getting really hungry. So I now on 1,100 to 1,200 calories a day. It was starting to get hard to eat 900 calories a day even if I WAS eating the right food. It's never easy is it. -
I like Stevia but it gives me HORRIBLE tummy aches!!

MY WEIGHT LOSS-NO NEWS YET ABOUT SURGERY
LousPeachy posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well, Dr.Turnquest, the WLS, hasn't gotten my records from my liver doctor yet. The liver doctor, when I called today, said it takes 7-10 business days. The records were requested a week ago this past Friday. Hopefully he will get them soon so I will know if he will do WLS on me. I am still on my diet which is basically a solid food post-op diet after the sleeve. When I went to my PCP doctor on 4/30, fully clothed, I was 385 pounds with a BMI of 66.1 . Today, no clothes, I was 344.8 pounds with a BMI of 59.18. My new bathroom scale is a small fraction of a pound different than a beam scale. I don't know what my clothes weighed but I still feel good about what I have lost. I know it will slow down soon and I still have a long way to go. If I can have WLS, I stand a chance of achieving a semi-normal weight before I die! I sure hope I will know about the surgery one way or another soon! -
MY WEIGHT LOSS-NO NEWS YET ABOUT SURGERY
LousPeachy replied to LousPeachy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Obviously the Liver Doctor's staff thinks a very obese 67 year old has LOTS of time left to wait on them to do what they are being paid to do! LOLOL -
Well, the seminar was good and I got to talk to the doctor. I have lost 27 pounds since I my PCP a month go. I have been on a 900 calorie diet, high Protein, low carbs, low fat, no red meat and NO SWEETS! The doctor recommended the Sleeve for me. That's the GOOD news. The BAD news is that till Dr Turnquest gets my records from and talks to my Liver doctor, he won't know if I will be able to have WLS. He said it depends on how much liver damage I have. (Autoimmune hepatitis and nonalcoholic cirrhosis. I will find out on June 5 when I go for my first meeting I with the dietitian. (I have to go for 4 sessions). So till June 5, I won't know anything definite. I don't wait well. LOLOL Actually, I expected this to happen. I never asked my liver doctor how much damage I had. So I will be playing the waiting game once again. SIGH.........

This may have been mentioned before but I don't remember seeing it. I found a website, Gwynnie Bee where for a fee you can basically rent (borrow sounds better) designer clothes. This would be good if you were a professional woman who needed to dress well but knew it was crazy to buy something expensive you wouldn't be able to wear for very long or if you needed a dress for a special occasion. They have ALL sizes too. They carry other clothes besides dresses, all designer stuff. If this is a repeat post, sorry. But this may be just what someone needs. Louise

RENT A DRESS & OTHER CLOTHES

AND not as hot! -
Waiting is horrible! The surgeon didn't really say he would know if the surgery could be done when I came for my first appointment with the NUT. He said he would have to get my records from my liver doctor and talk to him before making a decision and that I would be seeing the NUT soon. If I don't get an answer that day (June 5), I will nicely ask the office staff to find out for me and bug them every couple of days till I get an answer. LOLOL BTW, WHY are doctor's offices always staffed with young, thin, pretty girls???

I worked retail for 26 years. I can't figure WHY they put PLUS Sizes on the second or third floor! Yeah, we all probably need the exercise. What we DON'T need to be so out of breath and sweaty that we can't try on clothes even if we wanted too. I came to the conclusion that a bunch of stuffy male executives wearing $1000 suits came up with that one. :-( -

Lots of sodium in the canned stuff. Too much for me. -
Got to be careful about not treating your sleep apnea. My Dad died at 64 with multiple complications from it! I have used a CPAP for 8 years and I use a full face mask. Believe it or not, I can't sleep without it!

GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS
LousPeachy replied to LousPeachy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have been so down in the dumps today. Even though I KNEW Dr. Turnquest would have to get my records from/talk to my liver doctor before saying if he could do WLS on me, I am still disappointed. I am trying to figure out if it would be possible to lose a lot of weight without surgery and I really don't think I could. But what would be the alternative? There isn't one besides literally eating myself to death. Prayer would be appreciated that I don't get depressed and blow it in the two weeks till I see the dietitian. I was ravenous today but kept to my allotted calories and managed to get most of the nutrients I was supposed to. This waiting game is horrible and now I REALLY know first hand what others have/are going through. I am too old for this kind of thing!! :-) -
GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS

Prayers would be appreciated. I don't want surgery if I could have uncontrolled bleeding which the doctor said could happen if I have too much liver damage. I want to get healthy not die...LOLOL!! I also have Hypothroidism and HAD drug induced Lupus (the doctor never figured what drug caused it but it went away which the other Lupus does not). I'm a mess!! -
THANKS!

Houston TX Area Surgeons & Costs
LousPeachy replied to pushforth's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I am going for a Seminar and my first consultation with Dr. Dexter Turnquest a WLS and general surgeon here in NW Houston tomorrow morning bright and early. He is rated very highly. Just Google Turnquest Surgical Solutions. His office said he excepts most insurance plans. I have Medicare and AARP SUPPLIMENTAL, an excellent plan even if it is expensive. If Medicare covers it, they will pick up the difference that isn't paid. I will report tomorrow how things went. If you have a chance, I would love to have everyone visit my blog: http://losingitat67.wordpress.com. -
I have used a CPAP for 7 years. For me the worse part of the study is having to get up to go to the bathroom several times a night with all those wires! My sleep clinic has DOWN mattresses, not feather, not down/feather, DOWN! Hard as heck to get in and out of!! LOLOL
