  1. I did the NIB for 8 days with a little cheating. I ate some carrots, jello, green beans, lots of chicken broth, and even a slice of turkey 1 day there may be some other things, but it was 6 months ago. I told Holzman about my cheats and he didn't seem concerned and I don't know what kind of condition my liver was in before the diet, but he said it looked great at the time of surgery.
  2. Great news cnshawk! I met Dr. Richards at the seminar and he seems like an awesome surgeon, I requested him, but they gave me Dr Melvin, then I had to have it done in a hurry because my approval came in 2 weeks before my insurance was changing and ended up with Holzman. I didn't care either way and he is great, but like I said I think he is way too busy to see all of his patients.
  3. Thanks Steph, I'll call them, it can't hurt to ask! I am 6 months post op and only have had 2 fills, TG he(Holzman) is aggressive with them(plus he put 3 cc's in at the surgery). I have 6.5 cc in my 10 cc band, but I do need another fill someday soon!
  4. I had my surgery at Vandy and Dr. Holzman was my surgeon also. I love him and everything went wonderful, but I am getting very frustrated now because he's so busy I can't get fills. At my last appt.(march) he said he wanted to see me in 6 weeks, well once I got up to schedule it I was told he didn't have an opening for 12 weeks. My appt. that was already way past when it should have been was supposed to be on Tuesday, but I got a phone call today telling me it needs to be re-scheduled and now it's out another month. So, if I had it to do all over again I'd probably go somewhere else. I am actually from Clarksville and I called the surgeons here and they won't do my fills, but it was worth a try, lol!

Healing w/ toddlers in house -lifting

You should be just fine in 3 days. I was home alone with my 3 year old the very next day and felt fine. My dr said I had NO lifting restrictions as I was leaving the surgery center. I didn't take my pain meds, just tylenol, didn't want to be a zombie trying to take care of my son and I didn't need them.

    girdle issue

I had a catheter put in while I was sleeping. I had asked before the surgery or I'd have never even known they did it. They said they put it up and empty your bladder and immediately remove it. I had 2 c-sections and this pain was not even comparable, it was a breeze!
  7. Well Kat, I am sorry that happened to you, it's ridiculous and I have never heard of such a thing.
  8. (THAT"S RIGHT, I'M A DUDE SO I'LL LIFT MY SHIRT WITHOUT WORRY, TAKE YOUR "CLASS" AND BLOW IT OUT YOUR ASS, FIGURE OUT WHO YOUR SPEAKING TO FIRST!) at the resturant. I do not care what your gender is, it's not appropiate in any eating establishment to be lifting your shirt and showing off your scars because you think it entitles you a free meal, get over yourself and learn some etiquette before your next outing.
  9. Did you beg, scream, and pee on the floor (as you previously wrote) demanding to pay more when you ate more? Such as at a buffet? I'll bet you didn't. Don't forget, she also lifts up her shirt and shows her scars to the manager, real classy,LOL!
  10. There has to be more to these Olive Garden stories. How can any place say you have to order and entree? It just doesn't make any sense! I have worked there for 15 years and the only issue that arises when it comes to sharing meals is that people think that they can share and eat all of the salad or soup they want for free and that is not the case. The refillable soup or salad comes with each entree, it's not free. People get all bent out of shape if when they get charged for salad that they "shared" with the person they are sharing their entree with. If you did not purchase an entree and eat salad, you get charged for salad, salad also does not come with appitizers either and let me repeat, it's NOT free. We have people who come in EVERYDAY for JUST salad, it's 5.95 and we don't FORCE them to purchase meals, that's just crazy. People, it's just food, why get all bent of shape and carry on like a child over FOOD? If you don't like a restaurants policy just don't go there again, not a big deal, there are lots of choices out there.
  11. I had a big problem too! I did end up being able to go about 5 days post op, but it was painful and not easy, lol! I started taking milk of magnesium at the first sign of trouble and it did help, but I had never had bathroom issues like that before and I hope I never do again!

    Sometimes I get so JEALOUS....

It looks like you are doing awesome! I have only lost 20lbs and I was banded 1 month after you, you have me more than doubled! You should be thrilled to have lost 46lbs in 3 months, that's GREAT!

    Does Lapband Control Appetite?

I have only had the band for 2 months and I am not very restricted yet and I am hungry. I feel the same as I did while dieting in the past, except I feel tons of pressure to lose since I did something SO drastic. I am looking forward to getting more restriction and feeling full. I also took Meridia, it worked for me. I dropped 30lbs with it and it really did curve my appitite(more than the band, so far), but as soon as I stopped taking it I gained it all back and more. Good luck with whatever you decide!

How Long Until You Got Surgery?

It took about 9 months for me or them to get everything ready to send out to insurance and I would probably still be waiting, but my insurance approved me at the end of Nov and my husbands job was changing insurance on Jan 1, so that put them in a hurry to get me done before Jan 1, TG. So, it really worked out perfect for me. I had it done at a Center of Excellence and they are VERY busy, so even though I was on top of things and did my part very quickly, they were slow with getting everything together, but they did squeeze me in very fast once I got the approval and we only had a few weeks to get it done. So, if things wouldn't have fallen into place the way they did, it would have taken about 1 year.

    A fill during surgery?

Some drs put some in at surgery and some don't. My dr put 3cc in my 10cc band at surgery. I don't think most drs put that much in at surgery because I had been reading this board for a few months before my surgery and I was really suprised when my husband told me he filled my band to 3, and I actually thought my husband misunderstood, but at my post op appointment I found out he really did. I had some restriction when I first started eating mushies, but it didn't last long at all.
  16. I don't know if it merits a call to your doctor about it after the fact, but definitely say something if you feel the same way again at your next fill, and ask if that's normal. "Pressure" may be normal, but I wouldn't think "Pain" would be. No, I never said it was painful(except for the NP poking me and not being able to find the port), it was uncomfortable and lots of pressure in my chest. I was concerned about the pressure I was feeling and the Dr must have saw it on my face because he brought it up, not me, and told me the pressure I was feeling was normal. I don't know if I was feeling lots of pressure because he was pulling the saline out and then injecting it back in, he did this at least 3 times to make sure everything going in was coming back out, but whatever the reason he seemed to know exactly how I was feeling without me saying a word.
  17. Huh? There is no gas involved in a fill, and there shouldn't be any pushing sensation in your chest. What did the doctor say when you told him you were experiencing that? Well, I didn't even say anything to the DR., but I guess he saw the uncomfortable look on my face and told me that any pressure I may be feeling is normal.
  18. I just had my first fill last week and my port is right under my incision, but pretty deep. The NP was feeling something else she thought was my port and she kept trying to get the needle in, that was painful. She finally called the DR in and he put the needle right in the middle of my scar and found it immediately, didn't hurt at all. They didn't use anything to numb me either. The only thing I wasn't prepared for is when he was injecting the saline in it felt like I was having a heart attack. I guess the gas pushes up into your chest.
  19. I traveled by car(16 hours) 4 days after surgery, my dr was fine with it. He just told me to move my legs around while sitting to prevent blood clots. I wasn't in any pain by that time and the trip was just fine. I took my pain meds just in case, but didn't need them.

    outpatient...or?????

My dr only does them at a surgery center, I had surgery around 12 and was home by 3:30.
  21. I was off for 10 days, but only because I had already put in vacation time for Christmas and my surgery was the 18th. I would have went back much sooner if it didn't fall into place the way it did. My dr told me I had NO restrictions as far as lifting and exercising from day 1, I was suprised to hear him say that, but I was glad too! I could have gone back to work on day 3 if I had to and I work a very physical job.
  22. I had my surgery at a surgery center and asked about the catheter, they said they put it in after I was out and they take it out right after they put it in, just to empty you out. I am sure every dr is different about this, but I never would have know I had a catheter in me at all if I didn't ask about it.

And I couldn't drink until the next morning-no ice chips, no wet swabs, no wet washclothes Wow, I would have died, my mouth was so dry and I was so thirsty!

    waking up after surgery

I woke up very groggy too, my stomache aslo hurt some and I was VERY thristy. I had mine done at a surgery center and as soon as I opened my eyes I heard 1 nurse say to another "tell him to pull the car around". I was like WHAT?? I could barely keep my eyes open and they were helping me get dressed and walking me to the door. I remember while I was at the door waiting for my husband I asked for some water, they gave me a cup of water and off I went, lol! I arrived at the surgery center at 11 and the surgery began around 12 and was home by 3 and it takes an hour to drive home!
