Your symptoms describe me to a "T". I also had severe heartburn prior to banding and it went away for almost a year. I have just within the last month or so started waking up with the burning sensation in my throat. I tend to cough it back down...but it is very bothersome. I made an appointment as well for next Wednesday. I know I am eating more than a cup's worth of food at a sitting...and I have gotten a little lax where my band is concerned. I am praying that it is not a slip or anything that requires further surgery. Good luck and keep us posted!

I ran 6 miles on the elliptical last night! I am scared of myself!!!!!

My thoughts and prayers are with you as well. Hopefully an unfill will fix things for you.

Irene, that is a beautiful pic! Jamie...I am sorry for your loss. Know that you are in my prayers. I agree with the others, don't be so hard on yourself. Take it one day at a time. Thank you all for the welcome back. I am starting this day off with malt-o-meal and will hopefully end it on a good note as well! -

Thank you both. I guess what I forgot is that this band is a tool...it is not going to do the work for me. It came off so easily at first, ya know? Now I need to up the ante and work for it! Hopefully we can get more VV's back here to work with us. -

Can I come back?? I was banded 2-13-08. I came on here a couple of times but was more a lurker than a poster. I also want to get on the accountability train!! I initally lost 66 lbs...only to stall out towards the end of last year. I have been fluctuating the same 10 lbs. up and down for several months now. I got comfortable and stopped worrying about the amount and the quality of food I was eating. I am now scared that I have enlarged my pouch (my own fault!) and I have been doing liquids/mushies again to try and minimize the possible damage before seeing my doctor next week. I haven't had a fill in several months now, mostly due to heartburn. I am taking meds now, but I am thinking my doctor will veto a fill due to that! Oh well...I need to do something. I am too far away from my goal to be lazy with this band. It seems a lot of VV's fell off of this site!! I can't help but wonder if they too are lurking...too ashamed to post? I hope not, but it is exactly how I was feeling. I got down to 211 and now....back up to 220! UGGG!! -
Hi Mary, I just got back from vacation on Monday. We went to Mt. Olympus in Wisconsin. I rode all of the rollercoasters without any problems. I haven't read any complaints as of yet on here, so I say go for it!

Just over a week ago, I was scared to death that I had too much fill in. I had gotten my third fill a week earlier and I was having a terrible time eating anything. I chose to have some of it removed. Here I am...exactly one week later....eating like I don't have a band at all!! I feel ZERO restriction at night. I have made a truce with myself: I am going to start attending the support group meetings offered by my doctor. I had the attitude that I could go it alone, but I can't. I also scheduled a meeting with a nutritionalist next Tuesday at the hospital where my surgery was preformed. I need guidance!! The "real quick" weight loss feels (and looks) great, but I have come to the realization that if I don't truly change my eating habits I will not win this battle in the long run. GRRR!! Just wanted to share....

I just had my 3rd fill on Tuesday. I did pretty well with my second fill. I did experience a little bit of sliming and food getting stuck but I blamed myself for eating too fast (and too big of bites...Darn it!! This is a HARD thing to change!). I found that when food was going down well I ate more than what is recommended. (Sigh)...So I decided to go ahead and try the 3rd fill. I am not sure this is a "happy place" for me. I have read where other bandsters say that difficulty eating in the mornings is normal. It takes me the better part of two hours to drink my slim fast. It goes down, but it feels heavy and not enjoyable at all!! (I know we are suppose to get away from liquid nourishment, but it's the only thing working for me in the a.m. right now). When I can eat, I am not able to stomach more than 3-5 bites of food at a time. I am having a hard time deciding if this is the elusive "sweet spot" or if I am a bit too tight. Don't get me wrong, I WANT to eat less and feel full on small amounts but this just seems a little "off" to me. No way am I going to get my 60-80 grams of Protein like this... Did you all go through this? I guess I am looking for someone to tell me this is normal and it will pass soon!!

I have the 4cc band. I believe that is the smallest band available. My husband has the 11cc band and has only 5cc of saline in his so far. He is not feeling any restriction yet either...

This may not come out exactly right.... I have read on here somewhere before that when your food intake decreases substantially it can throw your body into "starvation mode". This causes your body to use it's own reserves to provide energy. I am not sure if that could cause you to gain weight, but it might be worth looking into. A lot of folks on this site say they have to maintain in between a certain amount of calories to loose weight (say 800-1000 calories)...on the flip, I have read where if you take in too few calories, it can cause you to stall. I would wager to bet that you will see a signifigant drop on the scales really soon. Your body is just reacting to the changes...

Congratulations!! Gas pains are the WORST! Keep walking...as much as you can tolerate and as often as you can. There is a lot of information on here about the importance of walking to get that gas moving OUT! LOL....best wishes!

I did have to get an unfill! That warm and foamy feeling in the back of my throat was just too much for me. I lost 8 lbs. in six days!! Too much, too fast and all due to not being able to eat hardly at all. The final straw was when I drank a slim fast for dinner on Sunday night and woke up with it in my throat/mouth on Monday. I now know what being "too tight" is all about.

A dilemma, I have an overweight child...
AngelaW replied to LindaD's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think you are on the right track with making "family wide changes". I am doing the same thing but it is little different for me. My husband, step-son (18 yr. old) and I have all been banded in the last 3 months. I have a twelve year old that is a bit on the heavier side too (boy...our poor eating habits affected us all!!). Once he saw that we couldn't eat large quantities anymore and were loosing weight, he wanted a band too. I just had a "sit down" with him and explained several aspects of why being overweight is not healthy and how it was affecting our daily lives (I could hardly buckle up on a rollercoaster ride in November....he remembers that). I pointed out to him that we needed to make changes as a family to make everyone healthier and that we were all going to focus a little more on activities outside and a little less on going out to eat. I think my son just needed to see that he was "included" as well! Everyone benefits with better eating habits and more activity! -
Mopopp- I guess that is the body's natural instinct to produce saliva to help get food down. I find that it builds and builds and then I must swallow it...and when I do PB it is darn near all saliva! Jack- You are a blessing to this site. I have read many comments that you have made to others and I can appreciate your honest and constructive views. I have found a couple of people on this site that I can say I truly look forward to reading their input and you are one of them. Thank you! COSkinnyGirl- I know....50 lbs. is a lot (woo-hoo!!). I did not have a pre-op diet, but post-op I am eating much healthier (It seems to be getting better and better as the days go by). I still have my "days" but nothing like before. I made walking a priority again and it has helped alot. I agree with what you said about the fill. Some doctors won't fill you if you are loosing the 1-2 lbs. a week as suggested. My doctor goes by how much you are able to eat per meal. I was eating more than the 1-2 cup meal size so I was ideally (according to the doc) ready for a fill.

Congratulations to all of you guys!! I've gone from a size 22w to a size 16w!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .....we won't discuss the part about the "tire" sitting on top of the waist band....LOL

Glad to know I am not alone! My husband who was banded two weeks after me keeps saying that maybe I shouldn't get a fill....but like I said, I am still eating more than what I believe I should be. I think I am going to ask for a small fill and hope it isn't too much!!
-
I've had two fills...going for my third on Tuesday. I am pretty much the same as Angie4b1g. I have heck eating anything in the morning but my band seems to loosen during the day. I am a little torn about getting the fill on Tuesday. I have had some things get stuck, but nothing I can't "walk out". I feel like I am still eating a little more than I should be. The scales are at a crawl right now. That said, I do not want to get too restricted...

have any of my age 20-something bandsters tried ali?
AngelaW replied to marineliebe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am a little older (32) but I have to second what Lauren said. I too used Xenical before Alli came out. I did not even complete a full month's prescription... The grease and gas?? Ditto.....way too much for me! -
Mexican food is the devil for me!! We still go once a week to eat at our favorite restaurant...I am eating a lot less, but there is nothing healthy about my choices!!
-
There is something to be said about sleeping in your own bed!! When you sleep in a strange place with wires hooked up to everything you own...well, I found it almost impossible to "get" to sleep much less stay there. However, they got what they needed and I didn't have to repeat the test. Good luck to you and hopefully you slept more than you think you did!

Hi, Everyone....I think I'll be the contrarian voice here...
AngelaW replied to Headhunter's topic in Rants & Raves
Headhunter- I am dizzy from reading all of your posts. You seem to go in circles without answering much of anything. You came on here to make people aware that you had a problem with your Lap Band. Well.....DO IT! State your business...ALL of it and stop with the mind games! You keep saying you don't have enough time to post everything yet you find ample time to spat back in forth with people who are questioning your motive. If you are not prepared to come forth with all of your information (like has been requested a zillion times in the posts before mine) then stop this nonsense. If you have been "advised" by an attorney or are refraining from sharing info until you can be advised....why start all this in the first place? You have accomplished nothing but stirring up fear with tidbits of a "supposed" surgery gone bad. I think you are enjoying yourself a bit too much at our expense. -
Um...wow. When I click on my "rep" button...it says "wantitbad is on a distiguished road".......WTF??? LOL
