I qualify for the sleeve due to having developed hypertension. I was 35% when I started this journey in February and am now 33% BMI. I attended the support group and others told me I looked really good then asked when I had my surgery/ how much weight I have lost. Lol. I guess I feel a little guilty if they think I already look good why couldn't I do this on my own, with out surgery? But I've tried and it just doesn't come off. I go to the gym, run a 5K but I can't turn down a chocolate chip cookie... Hypertension was a wake up call. Insurance is covering the surgery so I'm rectifying the problem before it gets worse. I guess if insurance has agreed to cover it I shouldn't feel like I'm doing something wrong or cheating the system by "taking the easy way out". I do have a real need for this. Anyone else with lower pre op BMI feel this way? My husband is very supportive. He tells me I'm beautiful every day, no matter my size. However, I can never tell anyone else in my family. Everyone in my family is rail thin and doesn't understand why I'm always the one to polish off the cupcakes. They seem to assume I don't work out because I have all this extra weight. I regularly run 5k at the gym. I just have a real problem with food... Mainly cookies, cakes, pasta, and pizza. I'm so tired of feeling like the obese kid at family gatherings. I'm so over trying to discreetly position myself at an angel behind my sister so I look a few pounds lighter in the family photo. I don't want to feel like everyone is watching me to see how much I pile on my plate as I approach the Deseret tray. I would really love to find a buddy, male or female who also has a lower pre op body weight and is going through or has been through the same thing. Thank you for taking the time to read and I look forward to your reply!

Anyone want to post pre op pictures With me, the pictures where were not hiding behind anyone to make us appear thinner. The kind of pictures we would never post on FB. In 35 days I will have my surgery and never look like this again. So here it goes.... My head looks way to small for my body. ;(

I get my sleve in 31 days and suspect I have hyperthyroidism. I want to get it taken care of but don't want to postpone my sleve as I've already scheduled time off work and scheduled my time around daycare. If I bring this to their attention will they get me on meds and still let me have surgery?

For those of you, like me, who have decided to tell only 5 people what do you say? People are going to notice when I only have one glass of wine at the party. They are going to notice when I don't drink something with my meal. They are going to notice when I only eat a small portion and am not hunting though the kitchen later. What do you say to cover your tracks?

Impatiently waiting...June sleevers?
Jme82 replied to Seahawkgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am scheduled for June 16. My grandpa just passed so I get a week of grievance to visit home but am waiting till August to go. Now that my surgery is 3- days away I just feel like a fat blob waiting to look good again. I just want to wait to do anything till I look good. Although today I did spend the day at the beach in my bathingsuit... Some things just can't be helped. But come on June!!! -
This morning I typed in the my symptoms. I concluded the tightens in my throat might be a muscle spasim due to a combination of stress and reflux. I are some tums and diffused stress away. I feel SO much better!!!!!

Since February I have dropped almost 20 pounds. But I have eating better and going to the gym. On the other hand it has been us in a struggle now that I'm in my 30s I'm shocked the weight came off. I'm sweating a lot. I have hot flashes. But that could also be related to hypertension or women's problems. In the last day I feel like I have a "lump" or pressure in my throat. I imagine the glad to be swollen. Other than that I don't have symptoms.

Looking for a buddy with lower pre op BMI
Jme82 replied to Jme82's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would love to make a FB page as long as friends can't see that I'm a member or my posts on the group. As everyone on this post is in a low bmi and not telling a majority of people. So as long as the group is hidden you can add me, Jamie 'Glasgow' Allmark. -

Thank you guys for saying I look good. But I feel the same as everyone else here. Would never put a photo like that on FB. I try to behind people and objects to make my body look smaller.

Anyone else afraid to tell their significant other, the one who sees them naked every day, the number on the scale? My husband knows I'm getting the surgery and has always supported me. He tells me I'm beautiful every day. We have been married for 10 years and are still very happy. When we met I was a size 8. 10 years and 2 kids later I'm a 16. How freaking embarrassing! I can tell you all I weigh 201 but I can't tell the one person who is there for me no matter what. I'm afraid he will look at me differently even though I know he never would. Does that even make sense?

What a great father!!! I know how you feel about wanting to be hot again. I went through my scrapbooks and pulled out a photo of myself from 12 years ago and am using that as my motivation. thats me in the hooters shirt. Now I have a BMI of 33 and am having to surgery hoping to be hot again! -

I've lost 20 lbs and one pants size PRE-OP so far and I feel amazing. I put on a bathingsuit yesterday and my husband and one friend who both know I'm having the surgery said "you don't need the surgery, I do". Lol! I'm still doing it though. My surgery is in 37 days!!! I never thought I would loose weight on my own I feel very motivated knowing I'm going to be helped and it's going to stay off for once!! -

I'm so glad you two wrote back to me! I was starting to feel discouraged, feeling like no one wanted to talk to me for being a "lightweight". Seriously, I read your posts this morning and the excitement I felt from finding people like me was enough to help me get out of bed! So thanks. Lol! I would love to keep in touch with you guys. Will you share photos and your stories like I did? My surgery is June 16. I went to support group this week hoping to find someone with a similar story. Instead I found that I was smaller than majority of post op pts there. They told me I looked good and asked when I was sleeved. Then they asked why I was going through with this. If anything the support group just made me feel more guilty. ;(. I'm really glad you guys are in my boat! -

Of course I would love to have you as my buddy! Thank you for replying! I know the surgery will not keep me from eating crap foods. What I lack now is motivation. I tried for so long to loose the weight and when I stayed a size 12 for SO long and I gave up. That's when I packed it on. If I have something helping me. If I see that change is happening I am a lot more motivated. About 12 years ago I found that motivation and slimed down to a size 8. But then kids happened and I was always hungry. Feeling overweight I lost my motivation. I've lost 12 lbs since my initial weigh in and I feel great! Yesterday I was at a birthday party with my kids and when the cake passed out I said no! I felt like doing a victory dance. -
Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)
Jme82 replied to Need-a-Sleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I will be sleeved June 16! I'm only planning to take 2 weeks off work. I'm also working the morning of my sleeve. Nurses week and I'm on the senate. How long did everyone take off work? I'm really hoping 2 weeks will be sufficient. I'm requesting light duty (mother baby or infusion) for the next 4 weeks. I'm also only 33% BMI so I don't think I it will take me as long to bounce back. -
I'm not a flint girl but I lived in Fenton for 3 years! We moved to NY in 2012. Congrats on your weight loss! I will be sleved June 18. I miss Michigan.

35%pre surgery and looking for buddies/mentors
Jme82 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am due to have my sleeve June 16. I have developed hypertension so I purposely gained a few pounds to weigh in at 35% so insurance will cover surgery! I have tried and can not loose this weight on my own. Developing hypertension was a serious wakeup call. I started my journey in February and have since lost just over 10 lbs making me 33%. I go to the gym at least once and week. I can run 3 miles with out stoping and still do the splits so I'm hoping I'll have an easier recovery. I also feel a little guilty getting this surgery as I'm on the "smaller" side. I was complaining about my weight then noticed the bariatric nurse was bigger than me. When I went to my support group several people asked me when I had my surgery and told me I looked great. Part of me feels I should not be eligible. But I am, and insurance has agreed to cover it. I AM doing this I'm very excited and nervous. I have told only my husband and a few friends. I can not tell my family as they are all very thin and don't understand why I'm always the one to polish off the cookies when I visit their houses. I will tell them I'm seeing a nutritionist and did this on my own. I'm worried about the post op diet as I've never been good at sticking to a diet. Also, I can not eat with out drinking. I would ideally like to find people who are/were in similar situations as I am. Thank you for reading, Jamie
