Im right there with you. I have my surgery next week and I have cut all carbs or I will just slide slowly back to this weight. you can have quinoa, but otherwise Id stay away. Im sorry you are struggling with it (and we all know how awesome carbs are) but I believe you can do it and wish you the best of luck.

Center of Excellence stipulation ?
kbmerritt84 replied to Dub's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup, Cigna requires it too. My surgeon works at 3 different hospitals so I was lucky enough to be able to keep him. To be honest, you want to have it done at a center for excellence if possible. there are very rigorous rules to gain that qualification and if you do, then it means that you are in a good hospital with an experienced team with low complication rates. -

Daisee68, I have all my other paperwork. All the letters and evaluations and what not. The only think I have left is my cardiac approval (which Im doing tomorrow) and my last diet visit next Thursday. Im absolutely terrified that I will be denied for something. anything. Ive been preparing for a year and Im just so ready to be done with the waiting.

SO, I have my last diet appointment next week. They will send my paperwork to Cigna before I leave the office. Im super nervous about this. Im worried that, since my appointment isn't as soon as I wake up, my weight will be just slightly higher than my first appointment. Has anyone experienced this? Is there any kind of +/- for the weight? Im so worried that a few ounces is going to kill my chances at this.

Pre-Op is going well. I have one more diet visit at the end of June and I'm just praying to get through that without incident. It's difficult trying to hover around the same weight. The biggest struggle I'm having is the inability to drink before, during and after a meal. I will say that it works very well. I definitely feel fuller when I eat, but I constantly catch myself reaching for a drink. I'm setting timers and moving beverages away from my desk (or wherever I'm eating).

Got my surgery date
kbmerritt84 replied to kimm5201's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do You have a therapist or a support group? That will be very helpful in working through your feelings. As for the physical: follow your docs directions to the T. Bring your own pillow to the hospital. Listen to your body. -
Surgery date (yay!) and telling kids...
kbmerritt84 replied to carebear42's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome! My surgery date in July 14th and I'm excited too. I also have 4 children. Boys are 6, girls are 4. I spoke to my therapist about this very topic just last week. My kids will be going to spend a week with family the day after my surgery so my partner can stay with me in the hospital and be attentive during my first few days at home. My therapist and I decided to let the kids go to family with high spirits as if it's a vacation. Then , the day that they come home, have my family members tell them that mommy had a visit with the doctor and that she's fine but that she has a booboo on her tummy. She can't pick you up and you CANNOT jump on her, but you can lay in bed with her and walk with her holding hands. The idea was that I wanted them to know that I wasn't ok to be seriously physical with them but also that I was ok. I don't want them to worry about what they can't change or even be present for. Your oldest may be ok to tell, but even so, he would likely worry all day. I don't think that we should lie to them but we should come up with a message that doesn't make them worry about mom or make doctors scary. I hope this helped. - K -
My surgeon is Dr. Fitzer. I really like him. My surgery isn't until July and IT'S KILLING ME!

Having RNY on July 14th. Live in NOVA. Would absolutely LOVE a buddy!

So not everyone has to. Some people do a 1 yr or 6 month or 3 month program depending on what your insurance company is requiring. If you are paying out of pocket then it doesn't matter. My insurance company requires 90 days physician supervised diet and a host of other testing and evaluations. I am incredibly impatient but i know that it will pay off in the end.
