Someone dropped the ball. Feeling discouraged.

Glad it all worked out for you; good luck and wish you a speedy recovery:-) -
Interested in this also. I know that alcohol is just empty calories, carbonation is bad for the sleeve(I don't like beer anyway),and whatnot, just curious on others' experiences with drinking moderate amounts(I'm talking like one beverage for the night).

Congrats on your surgery! Wishing you the best of luck on this journey!!!!

Just got the call from my surgeon's office-I got approved!!! They just received the fax from the insurance company giving approval. I will coordinate with the scheduling office within a week. I just got the butterflies in my stomach. I'm nervous as heck, excited, and terrified all at once. In the back of my mind, I was just waiting for the insurance company to deny, as I have a BMI of 38, but with comorbides(high blood pressure and type-1 diabetes). I am so happy that I get the opportunity to use this wonderful tool that will help my path to becoming healthy!!!!

Thank you! I have been "living" on this site lately, reading everyone's experiences, which are incredibly helpful. One thing I do see is a lot of is I guess what you would call regret about not having more photos of the "before". I plan on taking a lot of selfies(which I absolutely HATE) along the way, mainly for inspiration and motivation on how far I've come and never wanting to go back-fingers crossed. I have a list of all the medications I take now and cannot wait to say goodbye to at least half of them. Here's to a healthier, happier me!!!

I was extremely nervous about my visit. I saw the psychologist affiliated with the bariatric program at the hospital, even though I was given the option to see whatever psychologist I wanted-as long as he/she was certified. It was a lot of questions about previous weight, weight loss attempts, why I believed they failed, if I have a support system in place, and ALOT of questions about the surgery and diet/lifestyle changes afterwards. Basically, they are looking to make sure you have done your research and are mentally prepared for it all; do you understand what is going to happen/what the surgery entails. It went very well. I was VERY honest, and obviously answered correctly. I was "passed" by him, he gave his report to the surgeon, and I was submitted. Now just waiting to hear back from insurance. Good luck and be honest!

I have completed my 6 month supervised diet requirements, completed labs and x-rays, and the only thing left to do before submitting to insurance is my appointment with my psychologist. I am terrified. I know the basic purpose(to see if he thinks I am prepared for the surgery, the lifestyle, emotional, and physical changes that come along with surgery), but am still extremely nervous that I'm going to say one wrong thing and he'll postpone or feel I'm not ready. Anyone else out there that has gone through this and can shed some light? I'm not looking for advice on what to say(or cheat), I am just looking to help calm the nervs, so to speak. I plan on being completely straightforward and honest about all of my previous weight loss attempts and reasons for wanting surgery, just nervous. Thanks!

Thanks for the responses! My pharmacist that was in charge of my 6 month diet said "I obviously can't guarantee anything, but I really don't see insurance denying you-you have met every goal we set since the beginning, meeting all of your goals for the 6 months". Fingers crossed!

Hair issues - 15 months out. Is this the new normal post WLS?
tera1982 replied to Bluesea71's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm curious also...I am pre-sleeve and am very worried, as my hair has always been very fine and diabetes and other health issues already have my hair falling out(I was crying at the doc office thinking I'm going bald).... -
Yes! I am having my surgery at Froedtert, hopefully end of August-early September(sending in for insurance approval this Thursday)!!

Sleeve vs. rny for diabetes=NERVOUS!
tera1982 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hello...I just completed my 6 month supervised diet and am about to submit to insurance for approval. I have to make a decision between sleeve vs. bypass. I have type-1 diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure. My doc says he is comfortable with either, as I am a good candidate for either and it is my preference at this point. Anyone out there that can give me any input on why they chose one over the other with similar co-morbids? Thanks! -
Sleeve vs. rny for diabetes=NERVOUS!

Jenn1 Congrats on getting sleeved and having such success with the diabetes! I'm glad to see another type-1, as many of the studies I read about are for type-2. I can't wait to have some "normal" A1Cs. If you don't mind me asking, how is the weight loss going? Are you losing as expected/consistently? Obviously my health is my #1 goal(diabetes, blood pressure, and cholesterol under control), but the weight loss is also extremely important as well! -
Sleeve vs. rny for diabetes=NERVOUS!
tera1982 replied to tera1982's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanks for the replies! I know that being a type-1, I'll forever be a diabetic, as my tests show my pancreas is 100% non-functional. I plan on having to be on, at the very minimum, two insulin shots a day(this is my surgeons prediction). I am excited to finally be able to lower the insulin rate, as it has been a long going battle for weight loss being on such a hefty dose. Congrats to everyone who has chosen to take the plunge-I know I'm ready! -
What kind of broths?
tera1982 replied to M.E.Flores's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am pre-op but am trying to test some things out(even though my taste buds may change after getting sleeved)...I have found this to be one of my favorites as far as pure liquids go and it has 15 grams of Protein per packet! -
Hello everyone! I hope I'm doing this right;I just joined today. I was just wondering if anyone out there has had the sleeve who is a type-1 diabetic? I'm on an insulin pump and surgeon says after surgery, no more pump...I'm EXTREMELY nervous and excited all at once. Any advice or personal experience with this? Thanks!

September seems like it will never get here!
tera1982 replied to laura4923's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also have to wait 6 months due to the supervised weight loss program. I started in January so technically end of June early July would be my surgery date, but I have a already-paid-for family vacation in early august and don't want to be in recovery so my surgeon and I are shooting for beginning of September. I feel like it's a lifetime away. I know, it's nothing compared to how long I've been living unhealthy but still...I have been researching, sampling protein so I'm not rushing last minute and being stuck with ones I can't tolerate(even though I know taste buds change for a lot of sleevers), going to support groups, and doing whatever I can to prepare. Good luck to everyone on their pending sleeves! -
I know it will never go away, that's something I learned LOOONG ago. I was just wondering how others' experience was after the sleeve...
