    Protein

I am pre-sleeve(surgery is sept. 1, 2015), but have been testing out proteins because I can't tolerate many of them. So far, I LOVE WonderSlim pudding/shakes(I have vanilla and chocolate cream and mix with non-fat milk instead of water for an extra oomph of protein) as well as the WonderSlim chicken and vegetable cream soup. I have also found BariWise chicken bouillon pretty tasty and surgeon/NUT approved it for my liquid stage after surgery. I order all of these through Diet Direct. Sorry I'm not much help being pre-sleeve and whatnot, but those are some high protein, "bariatric approved" items that I've tried.
  2. I have my VSG date!!! September 1st is my official date(they had to push it back from the original august 27th)????. I was just wondering how long everyone else's stay in the hospital was. My surgeon says the "norm" for his patients are 1-2 days, meaning 1-2 overnights. Please give me some insight...thanks!
  3. I'm from wisconsin having my surgery in Wauwatosa.
  4. I too am a type-1 pumper getting the sleeve September 1, 2015. I know I will always be on insulin(I have a 100% non-functioning pancreas), but am told that the rest of my med list should be cut at least in half. I can't wait to start actually feeling healthy! I wish you the best of luck and a speedy recovery!!!
  5. We are being sleeved the same day???? Pre-op isn't as bad as I imagined(I am on a low calorie, low carb diet=regular food, just smaller portions); the hardest part so far is not drinking before, during, and after meals and watching everyone around me eating. I know this is something I'll have to get used to so I'm glad I'm getting a head start now. Good luck with everything! It's right around the corner!!!
  6. I was told in my pre-op class(surgery on sept 1,2015) that we(all 14 of us) should just go buy the cheapest generic Flintstone type chewable for the first month and take two a day. At the one month follow up, bloodwork will be done to determine if additional vitamins are to be added. That being said, every surgeon has their own recommendations and I would listen to their orders.
  7. So glad I came across this post. I'm sorry that your endocrinologist was not helpful in your care. I am a type-1, 100% non-functioning pancreas, and on an insulin pump. I have had my share of not-so-great endo's. I have been diagnosed and hospitalized with DKA too many times to count(I'm talking several times a year for the past 16 years) until they could somewhat stabilize me. I have slight diabetic retinopathy in the eyes(fortunately it doesn't affect my vision as of yet) and kidney damage. I have gone to the er unconscious via ambulance with a blood glucose over 1000(docs said I shouldn't have been alive) and been in 2 diabetic comas. I have now found and been with a wonderful endo who recommended the sleeve as I have gained quite a bit of weight while stabilizing my levels. I know I will never be free of insulin, but am hoping that I can lose some of the excess weight while bringing my A1C to an acceptable level. Any insights from type-1 peeps out there would be greatly appreciated!!!!

VGS Scheduled 9/2 - SUPER SCARED!

I'm in the same boat. My surgery is September 1st. I wasn't really scared or nervous until I had an actual date set. I do, however, have great confidence in my surgeon and bariatric team and am sure they will help me with any hurdles along the way. I hope you have the same type of support by your side. I wish you luck and hope we both have a speedy recovery. Just remember, we are all just a few keystrokes away-this site has many, many great members who are here to help!!!!
  9. Body fortress from walmart has 30 protein and 200 calories per scoop! That's a lot of calories(400 if you do the 2 scoops for 60 protein)...syntrax nectar is a decent tasting powder(they have a variety of flavors) for half the calories(unless you're not concerned with that and just concentrating on the protein)...
  10. LivingFree! I agree...and one scoop of the powder has 30 protein and 200(!) calories(2 scoops is 60 protein and 400 calories)...that's a lot of calories-I think I would only do that if I were in desperate need of protein and not really eating anything else...[=55712:ImageUploadedByBariatricPal1439697120.451492.jpg]

    Tummy bump help?!

I feel the same way(even though I am pre-VSG, surgery is September 1st!!). I have bought several different types of spanx tops(both brand name and generic) and they ALWAYS ride/roll up my large stomach. I HATE the fact that I have a a/small b cup size but my stomach looks like I'm 8 months pregnant;my stomach should NOT be so much larger than my chest????
  12. Thanks everyone! I plan on at least two nights, especially being a type-1 diabetic, making sure blood glucose levels are stable before sending me off. I have a fantastic surgical team that I rely on 24/7, but the hospital is an hour away so I want to be sure things are all good before leaving...

    No protein powders?!?

Samelton68 Sorry about having complications???? I am very nervous about the WHOLE surgery but have confidence in my surgical team(bariatric nurse specialists(who are AMAZING), NUT's, my surgeon, etc.) and know that I have their support every step of the way.

    No protein powders?!?

Pre-op: 1,200 cal, low fat, extremely low carb Midnight before VSG: nothing to eat/drink after midnight 1-5days after VSG: clear liquids 5-14 days after VSG: all liquids 2-3 weeks after VSG: puréed 3-4 weeks after VSG: soft 4 weeks-forever: reintroduce "regular" foods Of course, everything is as tolerated and are the general "guidelines"...there are no Protein powders/bars anywhere. The first few weeks are mainly working to get liquids to prevent dehydration-hence the significant weight loss for this period. Protein is always key-Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, milk with added powdered milk/egg whites if needed/wanted to up protein

    No protein powders?!?

I have confirmed the diet with Both NUT's at the hospital as well as the surgeon. It's clear liquids, liquids, puréed, soft, then "real" foods. Adding powdered milk and powdered egg whites to milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. I trust my surgeon-he is a professor who teaches up-and-comers how to perform bariatric surgery, has years and years of experience with thousands of surgeries under his belt. It is a very recognized bariatric center of excellence. I would not enter into this lightly without doing my research-I have been looking into everything from every angle-positive and negative. I have been to support groups and spoken with SEVERAL of his previous patients who have had great success following the plan. I was just wondering if anyone else had similar instructions, not looking for negative comments about how my team is clueless. What works for one may not for another...

    Liver shrinking diet has solids?

My VSG is September 1, 2015. My pre-op diet is all solids, there is NO liquid only or anything like that. It is a low calorie, low fat, low carb diet. I just don't eat or drink anything after midnight before surgery. I was wary due to seeing ALL of the posts about everyone else's diets, but I trust my surgeon and NUT. They are a center of excellence and he is a very well known, well rated doc with a ton of surgeries under his belt. I'm also interested in any others out there who had similar diets. Good luck with everything!!
  18. September 1st is my date. I'm excited but a little upset that my surgeons office had to reschedule(original date was august 27th). I know it's well worth it, just frustrated I have to resubmit paperwork for FMLA, short term disability, and whatnot.
  19. Not be embarrassed when clothes shopping about having to shop in a separate section(plus size aka "big girls" aka nothing cute)with friends/family, sit/lay comfortably/sit with my legs crossed, just a bunch of little things like that...

    Psych eval

I am scheduled for VSG august 27th. I had my psych and was extremely nervous. It was so much easier than expected. They are basically looking to make sure you completely understand your surgery, lifestyle changes you'll have to make, that you have support coming from somewhere(family, friends, hospital support group, etc.), the physical changes to your body(loose skin, possible hair loss, etc.), and just a general "do you get it?" type of thing. Good luck!!!
  21. Just got my approval and surgery date! I will be having my VSG August 27th at Froedtert hospital in Wauwatosa, WI with Dr. Wallace. I am so excited and nervous(but mostly excited????). Woo-hoo!!!!!

    All in one Multivitamin

My surgeon and NUT said the best thing is a basic Flintstone complete chewable(2 a day) and Viactive +D chews(chewed well)for the calcium and vitamin D. They test blood regularly to monitor any deficiencies and will add/adjust if necessary. They said stay away from the gummies-only chewable or liquids...
