tera1982 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi, everyone. I am a type-1 diabetic, on an insulin pump, scheduled for a VSG on December 8, 2015. I was hoping to hear from others who have had the surgery and their success stories as well as setbacks, complications, etc. Photos are always amazing inspiration, as well. Thanks, everybody! -
I think I replied on another board but I am December 8th, 2015 as well! Good luck!

tera1982 replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Bellabloom, I have to admit, I stalk you on this app! You are such an inspiration;I love reading your posts and seeing all of your pics. We have very similar "before" stats. My surgery is scheduled for December 8, 2015. I would be ecstatic to be able to get results similar to yours! Congrats!!! -
LOVE those shoes! I'm so envious;crossing my legs is one of my NSV's I'm hoping to achieve after my sleeve...

I was approved and scheduled, had my appointment with anesthesia where they drew labs 3 days before surgery, and called next day to postpone. Needless to say, I was furious and extremely upset. I now realize it was for the best and my safety is most important but boy was I mad. Insurance approved the extension with no issues:-)

My original date was August 30th, got pushed back to Sept. because doc changed the days of week he does surgery, now it's in Dec.(date will be given this coming Wednesday the 21st). I am a type-1 diabetic and had some abnormal labs that needed correction before surgery. My surgeon is Dr. Wallace.

I'm from WI. Having surgery at Froedtert in Wauwatosa(milwaukee).

My surgeon and NUT have told me that during the pre-op as well as post-op, NO protein powders or supplements, no matter how low-cal or low-fat. They said that they want protein to come from "real" foods, as they want me to eat in a "normal" routine, not off of shakes. I guess I understand what they are trying to say, but am worried after ready the timeline posts about people not being able to hit their protein goals without the supplemental protein(bars or shakes). Any advice? I will 100% follow my surgeons orders, just a little concerned, ESPECIALLY about hair loss(which I know is a very real side effect????)...

http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/349053-Feeling-hopeless%2E%2E%2E/page__view__findpost__p__3928887 I know exactly how you feel being all ready to go and getting a phone call saying that everything is postponed. I know it's not exactly what you're going through, but frustrating nonetheless. I was all ready to go and bam! I hope that whatever the reasoning for the postponement is figured out soon and you can move on from this. Good luck with everything!!! Ps-keep us posted!

Insurance gave Dr wrong coverage info?!

I'm so sorry:-( I really hope everything gets straightened out for you soon!!!!! -
I'm sorry you have to go through all that! I know how stressful it is to be so close and something happen to postpone the surgery(I'm going through this as well, but I WAS approved from insurance-I was postponed due to abnormal labs). Please keep us up to date on what happens!

surgery cancelled/postponed!
tera1982 replied to Shakti's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry...I also got postponed(for different reasons). I am not handling as well as you, though. I'm not overeating, in fact, quite the opposite. Anyhow, I hope you have a speedy recovery from the cold(?) and are able to reschedule soon! -
I had a date all set, did ALL testing and psych appointments, 8 months of supervised weight loss, met with anesthesiologist, signed consent paperwork, a week away from VSG, surgeons office calls and says that endocrinologist wants to postpone because my A1C was high. Surgeon said he understands that A1C was high, I'm a type-1 diabetic and that's the reasoning behind the surgery. I've NEVER had a A1C within "normal" range, ever. I'm beyond frustrated and feeling hopeless that this is never going to happen. Been throwing up blood since finding out...this is NOT helping fix any blood sugar issues whatsoever.
-
No, I have NEVER had that happen before. I got a phone call Friday that they MAY have to postpone. Naturally, I was extremely upset, being a week out. I cried, ALOT, this weekend, to the point of becoming physically sick. I thought I was finally going to take a wonderful step in the direction of becoming truly healthy. I got the call today that it WAS, in fact, being postponed. I was so upset but haven't eaten much so started dry heaving. After a bit, I finally threw up the water I had drank and it had blood. I am going to call my surgeon tomorrow and let him know what's going on.
-
Thank you! I'm am just beyond frustrated. I was/am ready to go. I have done EVERYTHING they have asked. My nurse at the surgeons office said they are most likely worried about healing(incisions closing up properly) with sugars being so crazy. Also worried about lows and being able to treat them...
-
No, I haven't heard from my endocrinologist yet, despite leaving messages(he was on vacation and just got back today). He sure did have time to call my surgeon though. Sorry, just upset. My A1C(blood sugars) have always been off, and under their complete control(being hospitalized and whatnot),THEY could not even stabilize. I'm a brittle diabetic and surgery was a tool that would've helped HUGE!

Not the same situation, but still understand the feeling. I'm losing it... http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/349053-Feeling-hopeless%2E%2E%2E/page__view__findpost__p__3928887

I also have the fitbit hr, and have had it for over a year(I was one of those that HAD to have it when it came out). I never knew about the walgreens thing! Thank you for posting!!!!
-
I had a surgery date set(September 1st), had my final appointment with anesthesia(I'm considered HIGH risk because of my type-1 diabetes), and my A1C was elevated, even with the supervised diet. They wanted to postpone surgery, but I explained to surgeon that my blood glucose levels are ALWAYS high, hence the need for surgery. He said he would agree(after much convincing on my part) and now just waiting for the anesthesiologist to agree. Fingers crossed I can keep my original date! Hope all goes well for you!!!

I love it because it keeps me honest...I link it to my fitness pal and track calories, protein, carbs and water-fitbit syncs with it to get calories burned from exercise.
