    Ladies please

I haven't had a period since VSG surgery 12/08/15. It is definitely all crazy, I'm assuming because of all the hormone fluctuations as it is usually pretty regular. I do think it's coming any day though because I am eating a bit more than normal(since surgery). I am curious about this as well...following.
  2. I put Trutein in the searchbar and saw a few posts about it but was wondering anyone who has tried Trutein powder what their opinion was on it. I saw a lot of great reviews on the Cinnabon flavor...any thoughts? Thanks!!
  3. Elode, I think you may be right! Do we know roughly how many posts there are as of now? Is there some kind of tracker?

    Cards when eating in restaurants?

Did you ask your surgeon/NUT for the card?
  6. Is there a tracker? Do we actually know the post numbers?

    Sodas

I had a horrible Diet Coke addiction-like a 24-pack-case-a-day kind of addiction. I drank Diet Coke up until the day before surgery(my only pre-op was a low fat, 1600 calorie-a-day diet). Since sleeved, I have not craved Diet Coke. I was/am shocked. I couldn't believe it! I haven't tried any yet either-I'm still kind of terrified of the horror stories(both on here and in support group) about the super uncomfortable feeling. I have that enough when I eat too much too fast and don't want to risk it. Even with the amount I was drinking, the lack of caffeine now doesn't affect me-no headaches, sleepiness, etc. I guess I'm strange that way as in caffeine doesn't have a "typical" affect on me-I work at Starbucks and drank ALOT of espresso as well throughout the day(no wonder I was on 3 different blood pressure medications).I am doing just fine without it, and don't think I'm going to cave in any time soon. Good luck! I do know what a terrible addiction it is and how difficult it is to stop. I didn't do it pre-op and thank god that I couldn't even fathom haven't it after VSG.
  8. I have a Fitbit charge HR and use myfitnesspal. I am going to be adding a Fitbit one to clip on my bra because I can't wear anything(bracelets, watches, etc.) on my wrists at work(new policy as of January 2016). I will wear the one at work and charge HR all other times. LOVE seeing my steps add up and myfitnesspal keeps me on track with my protein. I got it all set up for my low calorie, high protein intake. They both keep me honest and on track????

Love my Fitbit charge HR...but it causes rashes!

I also had that issue. I found a cover for the charge hr on the website etsy. I typed Fitbit charge hr extender or cover(at the time I needed an extender, but not anymore????) and I ordered one. They come in a ton of different fabric selections and have all of the holes for heart rate and display. It really helped because the fabric I chose was kind of silky and I haven't had any issues since. I believe it was like $14(don't quote me). But yes, Etsy. Check it out... https://www.etsy.com/listing/225333786/charge-hr-fitbit-cover-for-charge-hr?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=fitbit%20charge%20hr%20cover&ref=sr_gallery_30

    Any Type 1 diabetics here?

I am a type-1 pumper. I was sleeved 12/08/15. I have lost 25 pounds since day of surgery. I am on less than half of the insulin I was on before surgery. I am also off of 3 blood pressure meds, and all of my cholesterol meds. My blood sugars have been great, and I've only had 2 lows that needed to be treated, which I do with skim milk. I feel great and have a lot of energy, which I didn't expect. I upload my blood sugars with carelink(I have a Medtronic minimed) to my endocrinologist once a week and they adjust as needed. It has been a blessing and I couldn't be happier with the decision!

    December Sleevers

I was also sleeved 12/08/15. I am down 25-26, depending on time of day I am weighed, lol. I also feel like I should have lost more by now. Don't get me wrong, I am ecstatic that I've lost what I have, I never could have done it without the sleeve. Something in my brain is telling me that I am failing, even though my surgeon told me at my one month follow up that he is happy with my progress and I'm "right on track" with what he expected. I am eating well and getting in my fluids, but am having some food issues. I am fine through breakfast and lunch, but at dinner I seem to be able to eat more. I am following plan almost exactly as it is outlined in binder(I use pretty much all of the sample days menus) and feel like it's just too much. I feel guilty about eating the portion I do, even though it is actually a little less than the plan. I hope the weight loss continues as I think I'm going to try to up my fluid intake between meals(nothing 30 before, during, or 30 after meals). I always eat protein first and limit carbs to mainly dairy(cottage cheese, milk, Greek yogurt, etc.). I do need some carbs as I am a type-1 diabetic on an insulin pump, which also doesn't help the weight come off easily("insulin holds the fat", as my endocrinologist says). Here's to breaking through the stall and getting the weight coming off again/faster.

    Sleeve or Bypass?

I am a type-1 diabetic(it'll never go away, unlike type-2 that can be reversed) on an insulin pump. I also have high blood pressure and cholesterol. My first meeting with my surgeon, he gave me the option of either bypass or sleeve, with his opinion being sleeve. I asked about the history of bypass and its success with controlling diabetes and he said that the sleeve produces almost identical results, without the malabsorption issues. I did a TON of research as well as stalking this site for my entire 6-month supervised weight loss and decided on the sleeve(sleeved 12/08/15). I don't know why but I was kind of creeped out with the idea of my intestines being rerouted and stuff just "hanging around" in there. Don't get me wrong, I am not bashing the bypass at all; it has proven success rates that you can't deny, but the sleeve was just the right option for ME. It is ultimately your decision to make, and I wish you the best with whatever you choose. Ps...I am a month out and have lost 26 pounds since date of surgery and am off 3 blood pressure meds, all cholesterol meds, and on less than half of the insulin I was on. I haven't felt this great in years!

    What’s Your Attitude Towards Carbs?

I'm still early in the game(sleeved 12/08/15) so I try to limit my carbs to dairy only. I am a type-1 diabetic on an insulin pump so unfortunately, some carbs are almost a necessity for me. Those are mainly in milk and/or Greek yogurt form, which are fairly low. I am allowed to have saltine crackers with my tuna, rice, grits or oatmeal, etc. on this phase in the diet, but I haven't because I feel like that would be a slippery slope for me.
  14. I was sleeved 12/08/15. Today was my one month checkup. Down exactly 25 pounds from day of surgery. Surgeon is very happy with everything and says I'm right on track with his expected progression. I know I should be ecstatic, but I feel like a failure. My brain doesn't accept that 25 pounds in a month is amazing and I NEVER could have done it without the sleeve. Something in my head is like "why only 25? You're losing too slow. You must be doing something wrong." I know it's crazy and I'm really excited about the loss(especially now that friends/family who haven't seen me since surgery are commenting on how noticeable it is already), but I can't help feeling like I'm doing something wrong and the weight should be coming off faster. P.S. Yes, I'm hitting protein goals as well as surpassing water...
  15. I have to agree with everyone else...more fluid intake. My surgeon told me at my last appointment that not getting recommended fluid intake daily can inhibit weight loss by 3-7%. After he told me that, I made sure to get my water in. Good luck!
  16. My surgeon says the same. Our program requires proteins from real food as well.
  17. I also experienced this, especially with more solid foods. I found that the more solid the food, the smaller the portion I can handle. Also, pacing yourself(which is still something I struggle with) helps a lot. It also gives you time to recognize that "full" feeling before its too late. Good luck with everything, I know how awful it is. I vomited everything I ate for almost a week straight...
  18. You can get protein2o at Walmart(not every store carries it) or vitamin shoppe stores. I ended up going to vitamin shoppe and getting a free members card so I got &.50off each bottle I bought. They have a few different flavors. The cherry was very sweet to me, so I poured over ice and let it melt down a bit. The grape was good and mixed berry is better very cold(or over the ice as mentioned).

    Fairlife Milk

I love Fairlife skim milk in soups, shakes, and sometimes will drink alone. It has a slightly different taste than regular skim milk, but if adding to recipes, why not get that added protein!????

    Sleeved on 12/28

So, I was sleeved 12/8, and like you, I anticipated eggs. Let me share what I have learned. Overcooked egg sits in one's stomach like lead. The beauty of egg is undercooked. Over easy or poached is better than scrambled. Merengue is awesome. I've had a lot of discomfort trying eggs. First time out, expect to eat half of one egg.I was also sleeved 12/08/15. I have had some big issues with eggs. I've tried scrambled, hard boiled, "light"(meaning fat-free miracle whip and mustard only) deviled eggs, and over easy. I agree that over easy is best, at least for me. I still can only eat about half an egg or I vomit. I have kind of steered clear of eggs for a bit because they tend to cause me to vomit...everytime. My surgeon said that eggs are one of the biggest/most common "food issues" after sleeve. I might wait a bit before trying again. I hope that everyone else is one of the lucky ones that can tolerate no problem because eggs are awesome! I can't wait to try and succeed with them. Mashed potatoes? Oh boy, I tried those on Christmas and they were heavenly! Too good, I ended up eating like three spoonfuls with my chicken and then felt guilty all night. Still lost that week, but the guilt sucked.

    Getting Closer!

I agree 100%! The last thing you'll wanna do is drink all of those little cups, but believe us, it's a necessity. And the walking is key. It not only moves the gas, but just helps overall well being. I felt amazing getting up and walking the halls, even with the abdominal pain(not gas, incisions). My nursing staff was AMAZING and got me fresh ice water whenever I asked, which helped me personally to get that water down(I can't stand warm/room temp water). I wish you a speedy recovery! Good luck!!!

    How long on clear liquids?

I was water only first day(surgery day) and second day at lunchtime ordered puréed food(in hospital). I ordered eggs, yogurt, and applesauce. I ate a mini-spoon of each and was done. I stayed in hospital for two nights and ordered off the puréed menu for the remainder. Two weeks out was cleared for soft foods, and at four weeks(next week), I'll be cleared for "regular" foods. My surgeon also doesn't have us doing protein shakes, focusing on protein from food and milk.

    Smoking nicotine test

I'm not sure how bariatric surgeons will test, but nicotine is nicotine regardless of how it wnters your body. That being said, when my ex-husband and I went to go for our life insurance physicals(this was a years ago), we both had to do the "smoker's swab test", which is similar to a dna or strep test. They swab the back of your throat and test that for the chemicals in cigarettes. Nicotine showed as positive in my ex's, but he hadn't smoked for quite some time(he was on the patch). They ran a more extensive test(for which I was not present) and he passed as a non-smoker. I'm not sure exactly what chemicals they tested for, but even with the nicotine in his system, he was cleared. I guess it'd be something to ask your surgeons office about.

    Unflavored protein powder

There is a small taste as nothing is truly tasteless but it can be hidden. It mixes very well under 140 degrees. Thank you. I assumed if I put it in a cream Soup or Greek yogurt it would help cover the taste.
