I also had my first alcoholic beverage(alright, beverages) today at a Super Bowl party. I started with the one, and felt absolutely nothing. It was like drinking regular water. I had a second beverage(changed it up a bit) and nothing. Before surgery I had an extremely high tolerance, to the point I could out drink almost everyone at the bar, including the guys, but doc said that had a lot to do with my type-1 diabetes and the way alcohol metabolizes in my body. I didn't get the slightest buzz and I was doing doubles in low-ball glasses for each drink. I was so proud of myself for staying on plan food wise, even with all of the delicious options being enjoyed by the rest of the party. But back to the alcohol, yes, I was perfectly fine afterwards and felt like I could drink many more with no issues. PS: I had a DD just in case because I wasn't sure how my body was going to react...I'm not chancing anything!

December 2015 sleevers progress check

I was also sleeved 12/08/15 and feel like this stall is kicking my butt. I was 243 day of surgery and now fluctuate between 208-210.Well, sleeve date buddy, I think part of this is we weren't level five morbidly obese people to start with. We were obese, of course, or we wouldn't have been approved by any surgeon for this, but it seemed to me the people with the most to lose, lose faster. Nevertheless, I feel 96% normal now. Like I haven't had surgery. I can eat what I want now and its okay. The surgery reminds me it has been after 5 bites, but until then, I'm me. Just me. Curious, did your insurance cover your surgery? Mine did not. Mine did cover due to the fact that I had other issues:I'm a type-1 diabetic, had high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I am now off of all cholesterol meds, off of three high BP meds(now only on one), and am on less than half of the insulin I was on. I am at a stall though I am losing in clothing sizes(had to punch new holes in my belt????). I'm feeling soooo much better;VSG was the best thing I've done in a very, very long time for myself! -

I was also sleeved 12/08/15 and feel like this stall is kicking my butt. I was 243 day of surgery and now fluctuate between 208-210. I have done the "embrace the stall reset" and it didn't help me. I have been stuck at this plateau for almost 3 weeks. I feel your pain with the slow loser thing. I am religiously on this site and have a bad habit of comparing myself to others who have lost more/faster. On the other hand, as a previous post said, I'm hoping that this slow loss kind of helps with the hair loss. -
confused about what you can eat after surgery
tera1982 replied to socialworker91's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
where did you find this? so excited! I live in Wisconsin and found them at Woodman's market. You can also buy them online at Netrition.com or Amazon. Just look up Golden Home Protein pizza crust and you'll see. -

I have been CRAVING pizza and have done the cauliflower crust a few times. I went shopping the other day and found these...I'm in love! They taste exactly like "regular" crust and they fit into my plan. I top them with a tomato paste/tomato sauce mix, fat free mozzarella, and veggies. So good. I eat "normal" foods, just healthier versions and am continuing to lose with my surgeon's and NUT's approval if I'm unsure if a particular food fits into plan. -
Ack! Only Starbucks for the weekend
tera1982 replied to WorkinOnMe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
A cappuccino is(or at least should be) shots of espresso with half steamed milk, half foam...the flat white is the shots of espresso(pulled what's called ristretto style so they pull differently than regular shots) and it does have more milk. The milk is foamed but instead of free pouring to get that half milk/half foam, it is poured in a slow stream with a dollop of foam on top. The milk is steamed to be denser than a cappuccino's milk. Hope that helps clarify a bit.So the extra calories/carbs/etc are just because it has more milk then basically, right?Correct. It has more milk vs. foam. Still a healthy option if you go nonfat and if you're craving some flavor, add some sugar free syrup for no added calories/carbs/fat. -

I agree with some sort of bottoms. I sadly did not bring any and had a hard time keeping myself covered, even though they gave me a gown to put on backwards like a robe. I had a smaller BMI to begin with and the gowns were clearly a "one size" for the bariatric patient. I was drowning so I felt always exposed. Other than that, my hospital supplied everything I needed. I did, however, bring my charger with an extension cord for my phone. Good luck! -

Unless you order the flat white with nonfat milk, the standard is whole milk. It also has an additional shot of espresso(tall-2, grande and Venti-3). Also, yes, they change the menu boards frequently and there's no way they could possibly put everything on there. The "standards" that a regular store should carry for sugar free are mocha, vanilla, hazelnut, caramel, and cinnamon dolce. I don't know if you've ever had cinnamon dolce, but it's a buttery cinnamon, not "spicy". It is supposed to resemble like a buttered cinnamon toast like you eat as a kid, with the cinnamon/sugar sprinkled on top. It's very popular, at least here in the Midwest stores. -
I purchased mine from the site bariatricadvantage.com. I searched multiple sites and they just happened to have the lowest price that day. I search for specials going on when I need to order by just typing syntax into the searchbar and scan websites for the best deals.

Ack! Only Starbucks for the weekend
tera1982 replied to WorkinOnMe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just read my post again...I apologize as I didn't mean for it to come across snotty, as I think it kind of did. That was not my intention. I have worked for Starbucks for 11 years and fortunately, as a perk, I get to try everything and test out a lot of different varieties without having to pay a fortune for doing so. Is the Starbucks you visit a freestanding store or a licensed store(inside a target, a freeway oasis, airport, grocery store, etc..)? Those tend to have more limited varieties than actual stores. Even with our variety, I still buy sugar free Torani syrups from a neighboring grocery store because they have such a huge selection and add to my tumbler to just add espresso and milk to. -

I get a double tall skinny mocha with 2 pumps of each-sugar free mocha, and add 2 sugar free hazelnut, 2 sugar free vanilla. I also get a tall Americano(which has two shots of espresso and only 10 calories) with some sort of sugar free syrup(I change it up every day)and then add nonfat milk. Play with sugar free syrups-there's 6 main sugar free flavors always on tap and then seasonal flavors as well. FYI, there ARE 5 calories in each shot of espresso as well as 75mg of caffeine. It's minuscule, but they are in there... -
I just received an email from my surgeons office that my surgeon, Dr. James Wallace, had passed unexpectedly yesterday. I feel awful/guilty for thinking this way but I feel somewhat lost as I am only a little over a month out from VSG. I know his office staff is great and there are 3 other surgeons who can take over my care, but he was MY surgeon. He knew my history, my struggles, we bonded and I trusted him completely. Feeling very heavy-hearted right now.
-
Thank you everyone for your thoughts and well-wishes! It came as a shock and I had a sudden realization of how much he meant to me. I never thought I would create such a bond with a medical professional in such a short period of time(well, just over a year).

Black and white! Both are cute and you look great in both, but the black and white is extremely flattering, as others have also pointed out.

I am officially 3 weeks out today(sleeved 12/08/15). I am having a very difficult time keeping anything other than Greek yogurt and cottage cheese down. I have also been eating small amounts of sliced cheese because my new tummy can tolerate it and I'm so hungry. I am taking Omeprazole and don't have any typical reflux, I eat very slow(chew, chew, chew and time my meals out according to surgeon), I stop drinking 30 minutes before, nothing to drink during, and nothing 30 minutes after eating. I am starting to feel like a bulimic throwing up everything I eat. I am going to be calling my surgeon tomorrow because I don't want to wait until my one month on the 8th. Any suggestions? Anyone else experience this? I am not even close to my protein goals with just the Greek yogurt and cottage cheese. I am managing to get in my water. I told my surgeon I was throwing up at my two week follow up, but at that point I was only on puréeds and only really having problems with eggs, which he said is a very common issue with eggs. I am on soft foods if I didn't mention that before, but if I can't literally put my fork through it, I don't eat it. This is not fun!

So sad today! Learned via email that my surgeon, Dr. James Wallace, passed away unexpectedly yesterday. ????????????????????????????????????????????????????

What can I do with...cauliflower?
tera1982 replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
http://www.popsugar.com/fitness/Low-Carb-Cauliflower-Crust-Pizza-Recipe-30739512 It is a great alternative when the rest of the family is eating "regular" pizza. I have recently come across the post about nutritional yeast and sprinkle some of that on the crust...delicious and adds protein! -
What, specifically, caused you to become obese?
tera1982 replied to careya123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Was an "average" sized child, during teens slightly larger than my friends, but not overweight. I suffered from severe fatigue and headaches. Saw multiple specialists with no diagnosis. I got pregnant when I was 16(please reserve judgements) and was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I gained 70 pounds and that put me over the 200 mark. After my c-section, I saw the hospital dietitian and joined weight watchers. The diabetes did not go away. The team of specialists I saw at multiple hospitals determined that I was most likely an undiagnosed type-1 diabetic my entire life. While I did lose 23 pounds with ww, I was stuck/stalled. The endocrinologist told me that insulin LOVES to hold onto fat. I then got this amazingly stupid idea to withhold insulin to try and lose some weight. I did, about 30 pounds until one day I ended up being rushed to the ER in a diabetic coma, which I was on for 3 days. While I was scared, I repeated this cycle several times and was hospitalized several times. I finally realized that it was not worth me not being around for my daughter just to be thin. I ate whatever I wanted with the mentality that it didn't matter because there was nothing I could do to lose anyway. I ate a lot of fast food and unhealthy foods. I was stupid and didn't realize that this path was also going to lead me down the same road of not being there for my daughter. I started getting low self esteem and it ended up being part of the cause for my divorce from my child's father. I sunk into a depression and HATED food, which I blamed for a lot of my problems. I stopped eating except for two TINY meals a day, and those where only because my daughter/family/friends/coworkers were around. I lost, actually got down to about 160. I met my guy, who I'm still with to this day, and was happy again. As years went by, I gained the weight back...and then some! Fast forward to 2014, when my endocrinologist suggested VSG. I had never considered it before, as I thought it was only for severely morbid obese people. I was ecstatic! Sign me up. I now am post-VSG(sleeved 12/08/15) and happy as can be. Best decision I've made in a long time. Sorry for the long story, I just realized that other than this thread, I've never really talked about my journey except with the psychologist required before VSG. Long story short, fast food had a LARGE part to play in my obesity. Convenience foods also(gas station, pre-packaged, etc.). Thanks for letting me vent! -
I was also sleeved 12/08/15. As of today, I am down 30 pounds, give or take, depending on the day(it fluctuates a pound or two). I did not lose anything pre-op. I understand that I should be ecstatic, but I feel discouraged. I am comparing myself to others I see on this site and I get down on myself. I have met with my surgeon twice since surgery and once with my NUT. They both are very happy with where I'm at and tell me to just keep doing what I'm doing(eating all of my protein and hitting liquid goals). I have not started exercising yet. I suppose I am also going to have a little hurdle being a type-1 diabetic on an insulin pump according to my endocrinologist, as insulin holds on to that fat, which is part of why I had the surgery in the first place(I've tried SEVERAL diets, including doc supervised). I also started at a lower BMI and weight than some I'm comparing loss to(I am 5'6" and day of surgery was 243). Don't lose hope, we were given a wonderful tool and may just need some tweaking on intake. Have you talked to your NUT or surgeon about your concerns? Wait, I just re-read your post. Sorry. I would definitely ask around on this site, also have had MANY helpful responses to questions I've posted from some veterans out there. Good luck, surgery day buddy!!

Do you use tools like My Fitness Pal, Fitbit, etc?
tera1982 replied to Balance's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Myfitnesspal does have a water tracker, at least on my iPhone. It is in the blue + circle on the bottom middle of the screen. It has status, water, food, exercise, and weight. It also has a reminder tab where you can set multiple alarms throughout the day. I always track my water just to be 100% sure. Also, I love that it adjusts to my personal goals for the day(I'm currently doing 500ish calories and set my Protein, fat, and carb goals to ensure I'm hitting or not going over. Tracking, no matter what app you use, is super important for staying healthy after surgery. It also helps when visiting your NUT or surgeon so they can make adjustments as necessary. Good luck with everything! -

I tried this "pizza" with cauliflower crust...not too shabby. It definitely helped me out when the rest of the family was eating delicious take-out pizza from one of my favorite local joints, even if I could only eat a little bit. http://www.popsugar.com/fitness/Low-Carb-Cauliflower-Crust-Pizza-Recipe-30739512 I also tried Taco Bell(I know, awful! It is definitely NOT going to be an ongoing event). I ate the guts of one soft shell taco and threw the tortilla away. -
Five days after VSG...no issues whatsoever????
