I am only on clear liquids for at most the first week. I think at 7 days i start to add in oatmeal consistancy (so xmas day i can have oatmeal! heh).. 4 days after i can start to do nonfat yogurt.. I know that being on a liquid diet can make you drop a lot of weight quickly (heh it was my #1 choice to lose weight before and i could drop 30-40lbs in a month using complete liquid diet), so maybe a lot of doctors like to keep patients on liquid diets for the big weight loss boost to get them motivated and more quickly able to be active again..

I'm tired of being fat too. I was embarrassed to tell my family at first of my decision, but after I did they all supported me and said it was a great idea. Even if you dont get support from people around you, losing the weight is a lot of support in itself to know you are doing the right thing. The lapband is a life tool you can use for years to lose the weight AND KEEP IT OFF! (the keep it off part is important, as i know a lot of us have lost the weight before and it just comes back with friends..)

A question about exercise and lapband success
jc2008 replied to AlysonRR's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I plan to exercise when I get down a bit of weight so its not so hard to move around. My sister had the lap band surgery about 3 years ago and she was a bit over 400lbs. She does NOT exercise, she literally sits on her computer all day everyday except when she went to classes at college. After 3 years she hasnt lost it all but she got below 200lbs this past year and still has another 50 or so to go to goal. So yes you can do it without exercise, but it will be slower and not as healthy for you. When you lose a bit of weight exercise should become more possible. -
mrsjiggles, im self pay as well, and I seem to be more motivated when my own money is involved. I asked my hubby to put big signs that say $13,500 on the fridge and pantry and on the bathroom door so I see it every morning.. I hope it will go the same as my dentistry went, when I had to start paying my own dentists bills (ie not on my dad's policy anymore) I got a LOT more vigilant about taking care of my teeth.. So spending my own money on this surgery should be a partial motivation.

I am trying not to be nervous, as it really won't help any. I hate needles and hospitals and all that sort of stuff, it freaks me out really. The only other 'surgery' I have ever had was my appendix out when i was like 3 years old. I am just going into this with the attitude i had when I gave birth, I HAVE to do it, so just dont be scared and get it over with. Being scared or nervous wont help me any. It worked when I had my son 3 years ago at least, even when i got the epidural, omg that was a scary needle. I am a bit disappointed in myself that I have only managed to lose about 6 lbs pre-surgery.. I have been on liquid diets before and If i could hold to them for more than a week at a time, i wouldnt need this surgery heh.. But Ive been mostly good! Both my sister and mother were banded by the surgeon I am using and have had their bands in for 3 years and have lost a TON of weight. So I know it will work and just gotta keep reminding myself of that.. oh to be able to sit comfortably in an airplane and not have to ask for a seatbelt extension!

Hi all, as I am sure this will be a major life changing experience, I am glad to have found these support boards. I decided back in september that it was time for me to get the band. I have been overweight most of my life with one small 'skinny' spell back in my teens. I have gone up and down in weight (like very BIG amoutns 50lbs ++ ) at a time over the years with diets and the weight always came back full force + some. I am now 31 and weigh a little over 300lbs, and i need to be more down towards 200lbs with an ideal weight of around 180 (i am tall heh). I swore i would never get surgery for my weight loss problem, both my sister and mother had bands put in 3 years ago and both have lost over 100lbs each and kept it off. I just thought that my sheer willpower alone I could diet the weight off. Finally in september I made the plans for the band, got the loan and I go in on tuesday. (cash pay ouch ). I want to get my energy back and the ability to be more active with my son without feeling tired so much. I am still a bit worried about having surgery, the last surgery i had was when i was 3 years old and had my appendix out. I have not had a lot of health problems throughout my life, just my weight. But I had a feeling if I didnt do something about my weight, that I would start to get a lot of health problems. Anyways, sorry for my rambling, but just introducing myself, and joining the forums and still a bit nervous about tuesday.
