Numbness in outer thigh
ValerieDee1975 replied to SaraSleeves's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel it too...I am 6 months post op and still get it every so often....my Primary Doc said it was probably from the weight...but that makes no sense since I only got it after losing weight???? whatever...at least now it is only rarely that I get it...no real way to track it either cause it happens at different times and such....hopefully sinec it is lessening, that means it is going away -
3 months hair loss
ValerieDee1975 replied to nomorechubbybutt63's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm six months out and like most right at 3 months it started...and FINALLY, it is slowing down....I have been taking extra hair, skin and nails vits for years and I think it helped some...luckily I do have VERY thick, kind of course hair so it isn't really noticeable until it starts to grow back and stands up...and most is coming back really curly lol Good Luck all! -
Have you ever?
ValerieDee1975 replied to lsubabe33's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nothing! through out our day the scale will go up and down..also during our period, what you eat, etc.! I only weigh myself now when I first wake up...have had no food, hardly any clothes, etc. and that is the number I go by (tracking)...so much can make our weight fluctuate during the day...you will drive yourself crazy. So, pick ONE time to weigh and stick to it....and expect to sometimes go up a bit...it will be ok, it WILL go back down Been There Done That! lol...I am 6 months out....down about 56 lbs. -
Will I ever be able to eat Pizza again?
ValerieDee1975 replied to ThickFit504's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
oh, another thing I have found so far is that it depends on he kind of food as to how much makes me full quicker...and it is not always what you think.....I can eat a whole piece of pizza one day and feel fine...then the next night a small slice of meatloaf and some taters I get super full after like 3 bites...so far it's not making sense, but I will crack that code! LOL -
Will I ever be able to eat Pizza again?
ValerieDee1975 replied to ThickFit504's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Short answer, yes! Long answer...yes I was about 3 months out when I had pizza....everyone is different with tolerance levels, when, what, etc....I am 5 1/2 months out and there is still a few things that are iffy for me....some rices (depends on spices...but in general Rosarita (my new tummy) has loved spicy from the beginning even though we are not supposed to eat spicy foods) and just in the last 2 weeks I have been able to eat apples again! YAY! Just give your tummy time to heal and as my NUT said, the "timeline" or diet they gave us here is a basic guideline to make sure you don't eff up your new tummy and such....there will be internal swelling past what looks healed on the outside...but you kind of have to "trust your gut" with what you want to try and stuff....and with new things....take a small bite at first and wait at least 5-10 minutes to make sure it won't come back up....yeah, yuck! Welcome to the other side! Good Luck! Val -
May Sleevers...where are you?
ValerieDee1975 replied to bvenegas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, Valerie here! I had my sleeve on May 13th...I have lost about 55lbs....slowing down quite a bit and it fluxes a lot too. Haven't really come across anything I would say I really dislike...except maybe it has really effed up my menstrual cycle...ugh! I had no complications really...my doc just barely nicked my liver, but it had pretty much healed the day after. The initial constipation was AWFUL...but that was a week out and it has pretty much resolved...I take softeners everyday anyway (on morphine and it backs you up), now I have doubled it and have and otc when needed. Other than that, I am pretty much able to eat anything (just got my apples back!) and it's been over 2 weeks since I vomited! YAY! lol Guess that's it! Take care all!! -
yes! my NUT said that a lot of her patients use jerky and such as a good source of protein...I started eating Slim Jims (small ones have 7 grams!) about 1 1/2 months out yummy need to learn to make my own lol....good luck!

How do you take good before photos?
ValerieDee1975 replied to JellyBellyNoMore's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did mine the morning of my surgery, in my (black) panties and sports bra...you could also do bike shorts...anything fitted...even leggings Good Luck!! -
I tool Voltaren for a long time too before surgery...didn't really think much of it until I was told not to take it a week before surgery..OMG, I had forgotten how bad the pain was (arthritis in my knees)....didn't find out until after surgery that we can't take it...it's murder on our new tummies! My doc gave me the gel too...works great when i remember to use it Just gotta get into the groove of it....but in general, after losing 50 lbs. so far, the knee pain has lessened a bit...that amazed me I would ask your doc to switch you over early so you can get used to it! Good luck!!

Question for everyone
ValerieDee1975 replied to byebyefat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on a Wed morning and was driving on Friday morning, but I am used to taking morphine for a back condition, so the docs weren't worried about me.....usually they say as soon as you no longer need your pain meds -

Surgery August 21st- massive nerves!
ValerieDee1975 replied to Priscillapresley's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's gonna be ok hugs! I am 3 months post and have done great from the beginning....surgery was a breeze, even moved myself from the gurney to my hospital bed...was driving 2 days after (granted i take morphine daily anyway, so I am used to heavy meds lol) I had no nerves at all...I have never hit that regret wall, nothing like that. Now saying all that it hasn't been 100% rosy...constipation is a BAD thing, over-eating is a BAD thing, eating something your new tummy doesn't like is a BAD thing....and working to get in enough liquids and Protein is really a full time job But I have no regrets, I know I am going to do great...I am already almost 50 lbs. down (would be more if I could exercise more...bad low back, reason for the morphine ) I am sure you are gonna do great...that super hunger you are feeling now WILL go away, your body WILL adjust to all the new stuff you are doing to it Give yourself time to deal with the emotional stuff that comes with it...that is much harder to play catch up with than loosing the weight Good Luck dear! Love, Light and Blessings! Val -
I actually tried salmon at about 2.5/3 weeks and I did fine...if you are feeling adventurous, try a tiny bite and wait a minute to see how you feel...you will know soon if it's too early or not...gotta work with your body, some people are ready earlier than others...I was.....if you are a stickler for rules, ask your nutritionist if it's ok to try. Yes, we get all these lists and rules before hand, but also each person is different and heal at different rates, tummies like/dislike things at different rates, etc. In the end you are accountable to yourself Good luck and if you try it, let us know how it goes.

Protein Fortified Foods
ValerieDee1975 replied to nomorechubbybutt63's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Weight Watchers makes a really good frosted wheat cereal with extra protein, plus adding your 1% milk, it's like 12-13 grams per (our sized) serving. I also keep Slim Jims around..NUT said it is good also...and the small ones have 7 grams each....Kroger (regional market, not sure if you have one) has really good protein bars...taste great like granola bars, but have 10 grams protein and are cheap too Other stuff I keep on hand is string cheese (Kroger low fat variety), cottage cheese....that kind of stuff...jsut gotta figure out what works for you...Good Luck! Val -
I was kind of worried about this too...I am almost 3 months out, which is when the doc and nutritionist said it might start and I am not really seeing anything more than usual....I have super thick hair and have always lost a little here and there. I have also been taking a Hair, Skin and Nails supplement for years that contains Biotin and my doc said I could just continue with it so hopefully I won't see a lot...I recently cut some off, about 2-3 inches as it tends to "bush out" a bit at a certain length...I like it chin length usually and that's what I have it at now...gonna color it again soon too. My attitude towards my hair has always been kind of lax anyway...I like to experiment, it's hair, you don't like something, change it, cut etc...it will always grow out/back Good Luck All!! Val

Tomorrows the day!
ValerieDee1975 replied to KF2007's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took too much....pretty much just something loose and comfy to wear home, easy slip on shoes, phone/tablet and chargers, maybe a book or crossword (but you might end up just napping a lot lol) ...get some GasX Strips (they help SOOOO much!), hairbrush, your own toothbrush if you want (most hospital provide this though, even deodorant too sometimes)...they will probably give you socks too, the non slippy kind...that's pretty much it, you really won't be there long at all and really not need anything...well, I didn't anyway They even had me bring my CPAP, but I didn't need it at all and still haven't used it since surgery Good Luck and we'll see you on the other side!! Val -
Did you name your sleeve?
ValerieDee1975 replied to keddykat75's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc actually asked me if I had named it yet, said lots of people do...ended up calling her Rosarita (no sleeve puns lol) cause she LOVES Mexican food -
I got all of mine from Amazon...great prices, free shipping (mostly)....Vitacost makes really good gummies is I think all of the required vits! hope this helps!

Fibromyalgia and WLS
ValerieDee1975 replied to animallover1247's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Fibro...was diagnosed many years ago and have been on Morphine for many years also....I ahve to say the surgery has kind of helped some...I am still on my meds and still get epidurals every so often (also have degenerative disc disease in my low back)....I still have the pains that I had before, they just seem less so far or easier to deal with...maybe cause I have more energy and it's easier to move around? I am just over 2 months post-op....my advice, keep on your meds after and once you see the weight coming off and you are moving around more...and get the ok to start exercising....there are so many choices...I take a pool class (Twinges in the Hinges...an arthritis class) and that is really great, pre and post op I hope you find something that makes you feel better and I hope your surgery provides great results also...Fibro is a kick ass thing...never goes away, no cure...but my SUPER BAD days are MUCH less I have found so far.....Good Luck... If you want to talk more about it all, feel free to contact me direct...my email is delaney75@hotmail.com! Val -

got my order of Jarrow...haven't tasted it yet, but it has very very little smell, which is a good sign and what little smell there is isn't bad
