I have been working toward this day for over a year. After a 1+ year process, with two insurance denials and finally an approval in Nov, TOMORROW I am getting banded. I just downed my bottle of Magnesium Citrate and am waiting for the effects to kick in. My surgery is scheduled for 10am tomorrow and I have a pre-op appointment with Dr Kane at 1:00 pm today. I am really not nervous -- more anxious. I just keep thinking about the pain and gas that I have read about. I am not worried about eating. It seems like a mental thing, but knwing my surgery was this week I have not been hungry. I was not on a liquid diet until today. My plan was to treat everyday like my last supper. I did not do it. I just was not hungry. My only issue to this point is telling other people of what is actually happening to me. Of course my wife, mom and mother-in-law know, but I hesitate to tell others. I WILL NOT lie if and when people ask how I lost the weight, BUT I do not want people watching every bite of food and every action I make over the next year. Has anyone els experienced this? If so, how did you ultimately handle it? This is all a learning curve. Wish me luck!

TGIF...... Well I am a week away from a surgery that I have been waiting on for a little over a year. I basically gave up on the insurance approving it and found out the day before Thanksgiving that it had finally been approved. The Dr. is rushing everything through since the insurance is changing on 1/1. So my surgery date is 12/21 @ 10:00 am. I have little time to think about it, so I have not really been nervous. I started looking for "chat rooms" today and came accross this web site. What a GREAT tool. I am not on a liquid diet until 24 hours prior to surgery. So for me it is life as usual. However, I do have to drink a presurgical shake twice a day. Any advice for me out there during this final week of prep and for the first few weeks after?

Hey Nuke, My insirance denied me too after doing evrything they asked of me for 6 months. My Doctor referred me to someone(lawyer) that appealed the case. It worked and I am having surgery on 12/21.

Hi JC, I am new too. Just joined a couple hours ago. Never knew this site existed.

I know -- that has been my biggest fear. Sticking myself in the stomach for 5 days! I am a wimp with needles.

Cerrin, I have to give myself a shot for 5 days after my surgery to prevent blood clots.

LOL -- Maybe I just haven't thought about it. But I really have not been nervous. I just joined this site today. I have been reading through the threads -- and now I am getting nervous. I went to the Hospital this past Tuesday for bloodwork, EKG, Chest Xray and Upper GI. I went last night for my ultra sound. Tomorrow I have a dietary class. The only thiink I have been nervous about is giving myself a shot for 5 days for blood clots. My Dr. has not had me on a liquid diet. Only Clear liquids starting the 20th at 10am which includes Citrus Mag. to clean me out. Other than that I can eat normally. I like reading about what people are going through the first couple weeks, but again, makes me nervous at the same time. I may have been netter off with the unknown. Good luck to everyone else having it between now and the end of the year.

Hi, I am a 41 year old father of 5. I have been married for 19 years to a great women. I am VP of a Bread Bakery(off all things) in Chicago. My weight has gone up and down since High School. I am typically an active person. I ran the Chicago Marathon in 2004 while weighing 250+ lbs. I ran for months and only lost 10-15 pounds. I was very discouraged! I basically stopped working out. I am currently hanging right around 300#'s. My surgery is scheduled for 12/21, one week from today. It has been a year long journey to get me this far.
