Confessional: Old habits are creeping back in

Boy can I relate to this! I was sleeved in June lost close to 70 lbs by Dec. and then the holidays wrapped their evil grip around me and I cannot stop eating all kinds of things line cookies, candy, etc. it all goes down fine! And it evolved to grazing all day on crackers, chips, pretzels, candy and anything I can find, I can't eat a big meal but I can eat lots of bad things little by little. I've already gained back almost 10 pounds since Dec. what is wrong with me? How do you cope with head hunger, stress eating and making poor choices. I am disgusted...and I can't turn it around. I still have 20 pounds to goal (well now 30!) is food addiction that powerful or am I just weak. I'm feeling like a failure.☹️

    Constant nausea... Need help

I am ten weeks post sleeve and I am nauseated almost constantly. I struggle to keep food down and it is driving me nuts! I've had no issues for the first eight weeks and now every bite is a struggle. I read online that it might be psychological but I think there's more to it than that. I've been released to a regular food phase but I can't even get more than two bites of roast chicken down at one time. Am I thinking too much? Should I be happy with two bites and move on? Is this dry heave nausea normal? I'm down 40lbs since surgery on June 8 but at this point, I shouldn't I be transitioning to some normal food choices and eating patterns? Am I just being impatient? Anyone struggle with nausea, dry heaves and difficulty keeping solid food down? Any advice? thanks ????

Personal Style -- How will I dress as a thin woman?

I know exactly what you mean! All of a sudden, clothes start to fit and I have no idea what to wear. For the first time in years, I bought two pair of dress pants off the rack at JCPenneys...sounds so simple but it was a huge milestone. I was sleeved June 8 and am down 35lbs (50 total pre and post) but almost two sizes it seems. I'm in my late fifties too and it's all overwhelming! I've been planning how to act for so long, now that I can I don't know how! I guess we have to take it a day at a time and see where we end up...I don't know but at least you are in good company!

    Surgery at 56?

Got my sleeve on June 8th as well...at 56! I am down about 25#s as well and feel soooo different...and better. This is our '40' where life begins again! Good luck

Monday June 8th is the day!

Sleeved on June 8 as well...lost about 20 lbs from surgery date but struggling to get enough Protein and H2O. Energy is not a problem but I can only eat like 1/4 of what I think I can eat at any meal! I know it's a long journey but I feel a little down and am trying to stay the course. No pain or post surgical problems for me thankful for that. Trying to relearn eating is a hurdle! Started going to the gym and treadmill is a lifesaver! Hope everyone is well and please, let's hang in there together! Are you still losing weight? If so then you're doing fine. I can feel myself being able to eat more but I stick to three meals and try to get close on protein. Just follow your rules and keep it healthy! Glad you posted this. No way I can get protein in without at least one shake!

Monday June 8th is the day!

I'm a fan of Premier Protein as well...160 cals and 30g of protein? Can't beat that and the taste good!

    June 2015 sleevers

I was sleeved on June 8 and I am down about 20 lbs since surgery day. It is a long process and we have to be committed to that. I am in the puréed stage but I've been able to eat some baked fish, shrimp and chicken as well as eggs and soft cheeses. However, I get that heavy ache in my chest sometimes after three or four bites! And I, too, struggle with protein and H2o. I was doing really well weeks 1-3 and now I feel kind of like I'm struggling. How do people get their protein in and eat only 400-600 calories? A Premier Protein shake has 160 calories but 30 G protein. So much to think about...trying not to let it get me down!

    Depressing 4th of July

I felt the same about the 4th...kind of sad and lonely without a hot dog, burger or BBQ ribs cooked low and slow. I was sleeved June 8 and I'm on puréed foods. I guess it will be worth it in the long run but now U.S. Tough. Mental addiction has a tight grip on me! Tonight is my first eating out with friends event...we will see how that goes! Nothing comes easy...but we work through it, right?

    Fairlife milk?

I love the Fairlife skim milk. It is perfect! Extra protein is a plus

Post op & eating in public!

Glad to hear you are doing well EnglishDan! ????

    What just happened to me?

I'm also only 3 1/2 weeks out and tuna salad did the same thing to me. It's called the foamies and it happens if you eat too much too fast...even though you think you are taking your time, it still comes up. It's all part of the relearning process I think!

    My first pureed meal!

I'm transitioning to puréed as well and after a couple bites, I get that pain in the chest...I try to slow down which helps and even get up and walk a little if it's possible. I'm amazed how little I can eat...gotta stop at that pain or nausea takes over and I'll get sick. It's a learning process for sure!

At last - Op date tomorrow June 29!

Good luck...I was in the same boat three weeks ago and I promise, you will feel sooooooo much better in a weeks time! You can do this!

    Water Advice!

I can only take about three sips at a time without pain...I just keep the H2O nearby all the time...at least for now!
  16. I was sleeved June 8 and I am right with you on the diet. Some things go down easily and others (tuna) make me sick. Tried baked fish...that was okay and ham salad on a couple saltines was great. I almost felt normal. It's such a learning curve with no rules that fit everyone! Hang in there...day by day, right? ????

Post op & eating in public!

I'm only three weeks out and on to puréed foods (including baked fish, chicken, thin sliced meats with gravy) but I am learning what stays down and what doesn't...had a small piece of tilapia at Red Lobster and that was okay but a couple bites of broiled shrimp brought the entire lunch up! Working on recognizing when food is enough to fill and a little more will make me sick. Tonight's baked chicken (1/2 thigh no skin) stayed down just fine. It sure is a challenge...but I know it's also still early!

June 8th sleeve...things no one told me

I'm two weeks out as well and start puréed tomorrow! It's been up and down since June 8 but I'm trying to take it a day at a time. Do not feel like I'm losing weight...seeing doctor tomorrow for follow up and getting really tired of liquids. Hopefully the weight will start coming off once I'm controlling choices with real foods. I guess we all have to be patient...sure wish I wasn't so antsy about everything. Emotional roller coaster...not a lot of physical pain but I feel bloated, fat and agitated. Any other June 8thers feeling frustrated?
  19. You look wonderful EnglishDan congratulations and keep us posted! I'm a week behind you and feeling the same thing...nothing is really changing but this is a motivator! ????
  20. I'm so sorry that I missed this post! You'll need: 2-3 big potatoes (any except for red) Italian seasoning garlic seasoning skim milk for thinning it down Skin and boil the potatoes as if you're making mashed potatoes. Basically you are going to make mashed potatoes except you are not adding better to make them more creamy. Once you have mashed the potatoes, the best thing to use is an emulsifier to blend it down really finely while adding in the milk and seasoning. You can add whatever seasoning makes you happy during this part. The consistency of the potatoes should be like soup. You might need to add some salt, but not too much! I added a piece of skim milk cheese to my serving to up the flavor a bit. It only added about 50 calories. This was a great break away from the puddings and Protein shakes I was eating all day. This also gives you a little carbs if you're not getting enough in the day. Be careful not to eat this too many times during the day because it is quite a bit of carbs. 1 oz is about 15 carbs and 80 calories or so. Hope you enjoy! Yum sounds amazing...sometimes you need something with a little tenacity! I'm one week out;sleeved on June 8

    1 week S/P VSG

I'm also one week out and on liquids. It is getting so tiring thinking about shakes and soup and jello...can't wait to get to some real food. I get sooooo angry that it takes over my mind as well. I try to remind myself that I waited 7 months from from initial sleeve seminar to surgery and after the next week, I gain some control of my eating choices for the rest of my life. As stale as the liquids have become, in the big picture, it's only another week to ensure the sutured stomach doesn't leak, tear or otherwise. YOU CAN DO THIS...HANG IN THERE????

3 days post op and it's the worst day yet!

I was sleeved on Monday June 8 and I have found that one or two sips usually go down if I sip slowly. Old habit craves 3 or 4 sips of H2O at a time and that's when a feel that cramp in my chest. It's all a learning curve...I hope that swallowing pain goes away soon!

    Day Ten

I'm five days out and today was a spoonful of mashed potatoes...it was soooo good but got that chest pain and panic that I was doomed! It's hard not to enjoy the fruits of summer or a great BBQ but it's not forever...this is practice for our maintenance diet which, at some point, will let us enjoy a strawberry or two! Hang in there...I feel your pain and you are not alone!

    Repeatedly overeating

I agree at five days out, you have to eat slowly...even if it is only liquids!
