Being new to this, I meant to reply to you but think I replied to the entire thread. The reply should be the one above this one in the discussion thread.

How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills

I just got approved and am supposed to have my surgery in Jan-2008. I decided to research the site for complications just to get an idea of what I am in for and handle them when they occur. I read in a different discussion thread (can't remember which) that people were having issues with loosing weight, not because there wasn't any restriction but more because they weren't allowing for the restriction. Because of many fears, they were not switching from soft/musshies/etc. to solids or drinking liquids with meals because food feels "stuck". Someone explained very well that without the restriction of solid foods, you loose the full sensation and eventually eat too much of the right and wrong foods. Also, what some people thought was "stuck" or "a lump" was actually the body telling them they are full but would panic thining the food is "stuck" and drink liquids or bring it back up. It all seemed very informative and I really wish I could remember which thread it came from. I wasn't the main title of a thread but it was in the Complications area/section/forum (as you can tell, I am new to this). Anyway, not sure if this was helpful but it seemed to strike a cord with the poeple who were reading and responding. Good Luck!

what to do when something is stuck

Just got approved for surgery and am reading through all of these discussion threads to learn as much as I can. I guess reading up on all of the complications everyone is posting isn't exactly the smartest thing to do on day two after approval because it is freaking me out!!! But I know that knowledge is power and I should be informed, especially after reading that someone's husband passed because they didn't do a barium test after the surgery (wanted to cry when I read that). The point of all of this is...the George W. Bush quotes made me laugh in the middle of my freak out. Thanks! -Anthony

Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgendered Bandsters

I replied and had to edit a type-o and the edit feature destroyed my replay with coding so here it is again. Although the terminology will always be debated, this is what I consider a bear and daddy. Bear: John Goodman (at any weight you've seen him), Tom Colicchio (from Bravo's Top Chef) Daddy: Henry Rollins (needs more body hair), Ed Harris (in The Abyss), think older military drill sargent. I think the attitudes are similar, it's just more of a look and not really about the muscles but there is a weight distinction. For lesbians, I would say Bear = Camryn Manhiem and Daddy = Xena Warrior Princess. LOL

    I'm Approved!!!!!!!!!!!!

I live in the East Village in Manhattan. My doctor is Dr. Roslin at Lennox Hill.
  7. I just read your posted thread??? (new to chat, not sure of proper terminology). Anywhoo, laughed my ass off...in a good way. I love that you had the courage to ask the question. You Rock!!! A healthy sex life is essential for a healthy relationship and it is important to understand ANY issues that will affect your relationship with your partner. As a gay man, I am now curious and will read through all of the responses just to see if any issues ever arose because I have no intentions of giving up on keeping my partner and myself happy. Funny enough, I had a non-sexual question that I was embarrassed to ask because I felt it was a stupid one. May head to Hawaii next fall and wanted to go horseback ridding and then thought..."Is this thing going to slip from 2 hrs. of bouncing?". I don't know why I thought that was a silly question and am going to add it to my list of questions for my doctor. I may even post a thread and see if anyone else had any issues. Thanks for teaching me there is no such thing as the wrong question and never lack the courage to speak up and ask. :clap2:

Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgendered Bandsters

I am a chat virgin and am trying to get a handle on posting, mini quote, etc. Anyway, NYC Bear here who just got approved and will be a January 2008 bandster. First of all, Bear is not just a look, it is a state of mind and while I will journey down the road from Bear to Daddy, I will always be a Bear at heart.:eyebrows: Seriously though, I just got approved and I went from excited to freaking out. So much to say, ask, learn and I have to learn how to chat and not write autobiograpyies every time I have something to say. A quickie about me, I am 39, 300 lbs., domestic partner for 2 years, dog, cat, bird, live in the East Village in Manhattan. Weight is from poor diet, secret night eatting, 95% savory food, %5 sweets, no medical/thyroid issues that contributed to the weight, just a love of food. Okay, there is me...short and sweet.

    I'm Approved!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've never done chats before so I hope I am doing this right. You are my very first chat. I too was just approved and they told my insurance company the surgery date will be the January 28, 2008 also but that was just to give them an answer. I am meeting with my doctor on the 20th of this month to work out an actual schedule which may be January 15th. I felt like I just won the lottery when they called me to tell me I was approved. I was so excited yesterday...today however I am starting to freak out. As I started researching post-op diets for the do's and dont's, I am realizing just what a food addict I really am. Not a dessert addict, a food/savory overeatting at every meal addict. (deep breath...okay ) I'm not going to ramble on and on, at least not right away. I just wanted to say congratulations and I am proud to be a January 2008 bandster. -Anthony
