    Loss pattern

I don't necessarily see a pattern to the amount of loss, but I do see a pattern to when I lose. Every week I get annoyed because I don't see the scale moving and then finally day 3 or 4 it drops down 1-3lbs. I had a good week this week and lost almost 4 lbs. It is interesting how each of our bodies reacts to fairly similar diets.
  2. Hello- so I track absolutely everything with an app on my phone. This is wonderful if you know what you should be tracking! My confusion is about carbs; should I be tracking carbohydrates in general (including fiber) or should I only be counting Net Carbs? As of right now I do both but it's getting me frustrated. Also what is everyone's carb intake like in the early stages of weight loss? I have been keeping me total carbs no higher then 40 grams. Please help.

    Carb Confusion?!

Wow! I never thought of it that way. "You are 11.5% into your year but down 18%, you are ahead!" That makes a lot of sense. Thanks you!

    Carb Confusion?!

Thank you! Yea, everyone says you have to do what works for you, but how do you know it works? I am about a one month and 2 weeks out from surgery and I have lost 20lbs as of yesterday; so yes I am losing, but could I be losing more? I want to Make sure I do every possible thing to ensure my success. I make myself work out 5-6 days per week and I never eat more then 700 calories (most of the time it's not more then 600). I also restrict my general carbs to 40g a day, most of the time it's around 35g. I do my best to get more the. 64oz of water a day but sometimes I fail at that... A new thing that's been happening is I get extremely tired after I eat. I don't know, it's just like a light bulb went off and I am done being overweight, so now I want to make sure everything I do aids in my success. Maybe I am being obsessive, maybe I am worrying too much, but that's why I came to the message boards for advice. Thanks again.

    Carb Confusion?!

That's interesting, but much more drastic then I even thought! The nutritionist at the doctors office said I could eat up to 60g of carbs a day, but I know for my body that is way too high. Again, I am mostly confused about total carbs vs. net carbs. Thanks for your response though.
  6. Thank you so much for posting this. I too feel like a "slow" loser. I am 5 1/2 weeks out and I have only lost 17 pounds since surgery and have already gone through a two week stall (I am past it thankfully). When I think about how much other people who had their surgery in early June have lost I feel frustrated. It also drives me nuts that I am eating all the right foods and exercising 4-6 days per week (hard exercise) and see little results since two weeks from surgery. Then I reads posts like these and it grounds me. I know that in 18months or so, when I am at or near goal, it will feel FAST! And I know that I would have never lost what I have lost so far on my own. I am still grateful and still excited!!!!

    Tell the truth, exercising

I started exercising regularly about 3 weeks before surgery, then I took a week off after surgery. I started going back to the gym at about a week out and at two and a half weeks out I added in HIIT classes. So now I go to HIIT 3 days per week, the gym for weight training and a half hour of cardio a min of 2 days per week, and on my "relax" days I usually take my dog for a half hour to an hour hike. This had been my regular routine since a little over two weeks out, that being said, I only set a goal for me to work out 4 days per week. Now, this may change when the semester starts up again in September. I hope not though....
  8. Hey everyone, so I would like to report that I have been losing weight consistently for the past week. I believe the stall has finally passed!!!! I dropped a little over 3 pounds this week!!!! So for anyone going through an early stall, just remember it will pass. It drove me crazy and made me feel awful, but it passed and I am on a roll again. Just keep up the good work and you will be successful. That being said, I am sure the next stall I will have the same reaction. Haha!
  9. So I am one week out and still on liquids (obviously), it hasn't been as hard as I expected just a bit boring! Anyway, I had a strange experience tonight, I am up really late and now I feel slightly hungry. Is that normal? Should I be feeling hunger this early? I decided to have 2oz of protein shake and about an 1oz of jello because I do not want to go to bed feeling "hungry". Should I have done that or should I have not indulged the "hunger". I am still under 400 calories for the day so it's not a lot of food, but I just wanted to check in with you guys and see what you think. Ps: I have lost 4.2 lbs in the 6 days since my surgery!!!! So that's awesome!!!!

    How to be Successful?

I agree I think my water intake is the one area I am kind of slacking!

    How to be Successful?

I just want to say thank you to all of you who responded to my post. It means a lot. I am doing my best to stay positive during my stall. Today is my one month Surgiversary! I am 13.7 lbs down since June 1st and 26.5 lbs overall. Also I am down 14.4 inches since my I started my preop diet. I am super happy with these results so far. I just hope it keeps going. With regards to all of your advise, I think I am following all of the suggestions already: I get all my protein in everyday, the NUT at my dr's office said I could have up to 60g of carbs per day but I NEVER go over 40 (usually not over 35), and I get at least 60oz of water per day. I also exercise 4-6 days per week doing HIIT classes, resistance training and cardio. So I think I am following both my doctors and your advice. I have decided to continue seeing my NUT for the first year to guide my process, even though I will have to pay out of pocket I think it will be worth it. Thank you all!!!
  12. So my previous post about my stall breaking I posted too soon. After that .4 lbs I lost I stopped losing again! Now this week I lost another half a pound but that's it!!! So not even an entire pound in almost 2 weeks!!! I thought this was the honeymoon phase!!!! I guess I'll just keep trying....

    How to be Successful?

Thank you so much. With regards to most of you suggestions I am doing those things. I eat 55-75g of protein, I always have less then 40g of carbs (usually less then 30) and they all come from protein, dairy and veggies. I don't eat any starch and I will not until I have been maintaining my goal weight. I exercise I minimum of 4 days a week, but up to 6 days. I just can't seem to shake this feeling that I am doing something wrong. I dropped almost 13 lbs the first 2 weeks and now it's been two weeks and I have only lost about a pound total. I don't know, i just keep hearing about this honeymoon phase, but it seems like body skipped all that and went right to slow losing. Thank you all for your suggestions though, I will make sure to implement anything you guys think will help.
  14. Today I am finally down a half a pound; maybe I broke my stall?! Let's hope so, I don't want to go through that agin this week! I am super happy now though and doing everything I can to keep it going: high protein, low carb, water and exercise!!!!! Hope everyone else breaks through. ????????❗️❗️❗️
  15. hey Livvsmum, if you don't mind can you give me some details on your weight loss process. You seemed to lose really quickly. What did you do? How many calories/ carbs were you eating? How often did you exercise? My goal weight is 120. I am only 3.5 weeks from surgery and have already hit a stall. I am staying steady at 209.4. I eat about 450-550 calories per day, and between 30-40g carbs per day and 50-70g of protein. I also work out at the gym 3-4 days per week, and hike with my dog 1-2 days a week. I feel like I should be losing more weight. I wonder if I am doing something wrong. I really would like to hit my goal weight within a year. Can you please share with me what you did? Also I would love to hear from other people as well, all advice is welcome. Thank you guys!!!
  16. Hey Soapandcandlequeen, I had surgery a little over 3 weeks ago and I have only lost 13 lbs too. I thought I would have lost more than that. I am doing exactly what my doctor said, drinking a lot of water and exercising 4-5 days per week. I also keep my carbs generally under 30 but never over 40 grams which is 20-30 grams less then I am allowed to have. So why am I not losing?! My scale hasn't budged at all in a week!!!!! I swear I have not cheated at all and I am working my tail off. I want this so bad. Any advise?
  17. Wow each bariatric diet plan is so different. I can eat fair but I can not have any starch for 6 months. They also still want us to drink at least one protein shake per day to make sure we are getting in all of our protein.

    Short Sleevers?

Hey guys. I just wanted to check in with you. As you may know I am only 5 feet tall and had VSG surgery on June 1st. My highest weight was 235, on the day of surgery I was 222.2 and as of today I weigh 209!!! This an incredible amount of weight to lose so quickly. I am super happy. I am just about three weeks out and I can not wait to see what the future holds. Talk to you all of you, my wonderful short Sleevers, later!
  19. Hello, I was sleeved June 1st, so I am 15 days out from surgery. I am still mostly on a liquid diet, I just added in a little bit of plain yogurt and no sugar added apple sauce. I have lost 9.6lbs since surgery, I feel like this is kind of low. Anyway, the point of this post: I am eating about 350 calories a day; is this too low, should I be eating more? Could this be why I am not losing more weight? I do hit my protein goal every day and always drink at least 60oz of water. I don't feel deprived or hungry really, so I have never wanted to eat more. What do you guys think? Am I not eating enough? Could the low calorie intake be why I am not losing as quickly or dramatically as most Sleevers do? Or is this normal? Thanks!!!

Am I eating not eating enough?!

So I had my 2 week check up today (even though it's over two weeks) and got one on one time with my NUT and APRN. The NUT said that I wasn't eating enough and she would like me eating between 400-600 calories. It's really hard for me to do! For the past almost 3 weeks I have only been getting in about 300-350. Today I phased over to puréed foods and that helped a little. I was able to get my calories up to 430, so hopefully this will boost my weight loss a bit. I don't think I could physically fit anymore food. I am very happy to be on the next stage of the diet plan though. Basically, I was told to keep doing what I have been doing, add a little more food + water and then the pounds should come off. We will see!!!????

Am I eating not eating enough?!

Thank you all!!! I think you guys are probably right. In general I shouldn't worry about what the scale says right now, but it's so hard!!! Also, I probably need to up my calorie intake. I have an appointment with my NUT and my Dr tomorrow so I am going to go over all of this with them and get some answers. Thanks you guys! Today I will try to eat more, especially since it's a gym day!

Am I eating not eating enough?!

Thanks you guys for the words or encouragement! I know I should stop worrying, but I just want to get this right. I can't wait until I feel fit, healthy and satisfied with myself and what I accomplished. I don't want to mess it up from the get go!
  23. MarceMonster

Am I eating not eating enough?!

Yes I exercise too. I go to the gym at least 3 days per week and I also go hiking 1-2 days per week. Before surgery I also attended a high intensity interval training class 3 days a week. My trainer said I can join the class again when I am a month out from surgery. At that point I will be doing the class 3 days a week, gym 2 a week, and hiking 1 a week. So yea I try to move as much as possible.

Am I eating not eating enough?!

Yea I am not at the soft food phase yet, I have just started puréed foods. Thank you both for your responses, but my really question is whether or not my low calorie diet is actually preventing me from losing more weight. Should I be eating more, or is this rate of weight loss normal?
  25. Hey guys, I am in the same boat too! I am down 9.5lbs from the first 8 days since surgery, but now I am 15 days out and not much has changed. I notice that I am going down like maybe half a pound every two days or so. This seems really slow, is this normal? I am still on liquids only, and I am only eating about 350-400 calories. I thought that I would be losing at least 4-5lbs a week. I don't know, what do you guys think?
