  1. How much weight did you have to lose? That's so awesome that you reached goal 8.5 months out. I am trying my best to reach goal within a year. I just had my two month check up last week and the Dr. said I was above average in my weight loss. I lost 33% of my excess weight, he said he usually doesn't see that until about month 4. I was so excited. I hope I do as well as you, congratulations!

    70lbs! Need support

You know what's funny, after I wrote this post I went to my HIIT class and the trainer said "wow, your getting skinny!". It confirms my belief that I just don't see myself the way others do. It gave me a great boost to keep going though!

    70lbs! Need support

Well first I would like to say congratulations! I also want to let you know that you are not the only one who still has issues with body image/ clothing. I am down 40 pounds and I don't think I look any different and honestly I think my 2x clothes I was wearing still fit fine! Maybe it's all in my head, because everyone tells me that I look way better. I am sure you experience something similar. I kind of feel that it won't hit me until the majority of my excess weight is gone. What do you think? Was there a point you looked in the mirror and said "wow, I look good" or something to that affect. Well I wish you luck and I am sure you will make to goal. You have already done a tremendous job!!!!
  4. So your Dr. Wants you to be max 40g of carbs per day? Yea, see I can eat fruit and veggies. I try to limit my carbs to 40g per day, because I know my body likes to hold onto carbs. Honestly though this goes against what the NUT at my surgeons office suggests, which is a MINIMUM of 60g per day. That just seems way too high. So I decided to try an experiment and "split the baby" by only counting Net Carbs instead of total carbs like I was counting. So this means that I am getting overall more carbs but I am limiting my Net Carbs to 40 or less per day. Hopefully, this works, if not I will go back to counting my total carbs.
  5. What is your carb goal?

Strange Info from NUT re: Carbs

I use an app called MyNetDiary I love it! Same idea as my fitness pal. The only reason I don't use my fitness pal is because I have been using this app since before surgery so it has all my info in it. It's really great and easy to use. I am doing a small experiment and only counting net carbs instead of total carbs. If I still lose weight I am going to continue with that method. You should use an app though it makes tracking way easier.

Strange Info from NUT re: Carbs

Wow that's super low carb! I don't know how you manage that. What do you eat? I've added in things like yogurt (plain fage), cheese (other dairy), fruit, veggies and of course protein supplements, all of which have carbs in them. Now with all of that I am still relatively low, I usually eat about 40g carbs per day. I couldn't imagine how you manage 5-10 per day!!!!
  8. At 3 1/2 weeks out I was still on soft foods. At that point I was struggling to get in 500 calories per day. Now at almost 2 1/2 months out I only eat about 650-700 calories per day. It's kind of amazing how much you can eat in one sitting, you may want to talk to your doctors about it. Even now I can only eat one meatball with sauce and a little cheese, no way I could fit two! At 3 1/2 weeks you should be having between 1/4 - 1/2 cup of food at a time. Do you measure your food or only track calories? You might want to try measuring you food out by volume and only eating that portion of food. I would go back to your doctor and talk with him though, it really does seem a little strange that you could manage that much food at three and a half weeks out. Please let us know what happens....
  9. Well the first thing I would say is it sounds like your eating too many carbs with food like bread (sandwich), popcorn, nuts, ect... Those things are fine once in awhile but not for everyday eating. Do you track your food? I keep my carbs around 40g per day. Some people think that is too low, but it's been working for me. Also, you may be eating a bit too much. At 10 months my NUT said you should be around 800 calories per day. I would track and measure your food. With regards to your Protein shake question, there is no need to drink 3 per day, just drink one. Remember most of those shakes are Meal Replacement shakes so the calories will add up fast; they are not Snacks. You also might want to keep an eye on your snacking, I know if I don't, I can fit in way more food by grazing/ snacking. Most of those snacking calories are just useless, extra calories. Please let us know how you do. How far are you from goal? Also you need way more water! You should be drinking a minimum of 64oz of Water and more on the days you exercise.

Strange Info from NUT re: Carbs

Yes, but not all carbs are cake! That's one of the issues we were discussing, should you count net carbs or total carbs. Obviously the cake makes sense, but you can get to 60g of carbs with vegetables really fast!!!!

    I need help :(

I had a piece of pizza once, and I veered off diet slightly while I was on vacation, but then the moment I got home I went right back to my diet plan. You shouldn't need to do a cleanse, although I guess you can if you want to, but the best thing to do is just stop eating junk. You know what you are supposed to eat. protein first (2-4oz), then non-starch vegetables, then fruit, then other carbs if you have room, but most people don't if they fallow that order. I eat lower carb then most people, but you don't have to do that. Most NUTs suggest having around 60-80g of carbs per day. I promise you will feel better if your not eating Doritos, pizza, ect.... You need to get back on track though, because you may be losing 4 lbs a week now, but after 6 months it slows down. That being said, I wish I was losing 4 lbs a week!!!! I very rarely eat something I shouldn't and I workout 6 days per weeks and I do not lose consistently. My weight loss averages out to 3lbs per week, but it doesn't actually happen that way!!! I have had weeks were I only lost half a pound! So I am slightly jealous!!!! I hope this works out for you!

Strange Info from NUT re: Carbs

I went to a Mexican food restaurant and at "The Whole Enchilada" What do you eat at the Mexican restaurant? I love Mexican, but I have been avoiding it because I don't really know what I can eat there anymore.

Strange Info from NUT re: Carbs

I am a little over 2 months out and I still have a good amount of restiction, but honestly it depends on the day and the food. Like today I was only able to eat 2 oz of chicken, but usually I can manage 3oz. Basically with regards to the carb issue its all over the map; one doctor says one thing and another says something else. With regards to my intake, I continuing low carb ( around 40g total carb per day) until I get a second opinion from my actual NUT on the 15th. Some people do well with carbs, but I think carbs were how I got to this weight in the first place so I am very hesitant to add them back in. I too eat multiple small meals per day, usually I eat 5 times per day, about every 3-4 hours. That has been working. I am down 40lbs (27 since June 1st) and feel healthier. I am so much more active, which I am sure helps. Just do what works for you and your body. I know it's hard because I am constantly comparing myself to other sleepers, but unfortunately we all have different things that work for us. I workout 6 days a weeks and have had to earn every pound I have lost, other people it falls right off!!!!

    3 month WL STALL

I would go see a nutritionist and go through a weeks worth of your food to determine what might be preventing your loss. I see my NUT monthly to keep me accountable. I do have to pay out of pocket for that though. If you find that it is not your food, then you might what to have some blood work done and check if maybe you have a hormonal issue. From what I understand weight loss is about 80% diet and 20% exercise, so make sure you exercise frequently and change your routine every 4 weeks. I really wish you the best of luck and please keep me updated.
  15. I definitely have a love/ hate relationship with exercise! I do my best to work out 6 days a week, but I often only end up doing 5 days per week. Some of those days I have to drag myself to the gym or my HIIT workout class, but I almost always feel better after I am done. I am hoping there is a day the I truly love exercise, until then, I will just fake it till I make it!

    Stop it!

Wow this "runningtosleeve" women might want to run to anger management! I don't even understand why you would post on a site like this if you don't want anyone's advice or sympathy for that matter. Obviously she doesn't have a problem that we can address here, so we might as well stop asking her. Unless of course it was all just for attention and then I think she got what she wanted.

    What am I missing ?

Wow you look amazing! I hope I have similar results.

    Sleeve with switch

It definitely took me a few weeks, but now I have more energy then I have had in a long time. I can't wait to see what I will be like by the end of this process, I'll probably turn into the energizer bunny!!! Haha

Strange Info from NUT re: Carbs

No, I made her clarify that she said you could subtract fiber but you don't have to. I really don't know why she is suggesting 60-100g of carbs in a day. It seems like too much. I am just going to get a second opinion from my personal NUT who i still see monthly. I technically only had to see her during my preop, supervised, 6 month diet, but I think seeing her monthly keeps me on track so I continue to go.
  20. MarceMonster

Strange Info from NUT re: Carbs

No I do not subtract the fiber. I count my total carbs. Since I don't eat bread, rice or potatoes, the only carbs I eat are from dairy, fruit, veg, or protein shakes. From what I understand carbs are carbs (obviously I know there's a diff between complex and simple).

Strange Info from NUT re: Carbs

I can only hope I have the results you have. Like I said I am only five feet tall, I think 100 lbs might be a bit too low for me, but who knows, I have never even been close to that weight! I want to get to 120 and then my stretch goal of 110-105. I also think that it might be good to get lower then my ideal because most patients gain 10-15 lbs back. It is results like your that really push me and give me hope! Thank you! How many carbs did you eat regularly? And calories?

Strange Info from NUT re: Carbs

I don't know, I guess my feeling is if it's working should I really mess with it? I am also acutely aware that after 6 months I will most likely have a harder time getting the weight off, so I would like to do everything I possibly can to ensure my success. Does that make any sense?
  23. MarceMonster

Strange Info from NUT re: Carbs

I generally eat 650-700 calories, 70-80g of protein and 35-40g of carbs and I have been losing a good amount of weight. I just don't see why the NUT would suggest raising my carbs if I am doing well without them. I also don't really feel deprived or really restricted either.
  24. MarceMonster

Strange Info from NUT re: Carbs

My NUT said I should only be eating 600-700 calories, so I definitely couldn't fit in 100g carbs!

Strange Info from NUT re: Carbs

@@IcanMakeit How long did it take you to get to 105? I am really short, 5 feet tall, so I set my goal weight to 120, and my stretch goal to 105. I would be amazed if I could reach either, I have never been below 135!
