I had my Gastric Bypass in 2012 with Dr. Joseph Naim, MD, FACS at the Center for Surgical Treatment of Obesity in Long Beach, CA. He was trained by Dr Fobi who was at one time called Hollywood’s weight loss surgeon and considered the weight loss doctor to the stars, (Dr Fobi performed the Fobi Pouch Gastric Bypass got Jennifer Holiday, Etta James, and Roseanne Barr to name a few.) A little about me: I had my Fobi Pouch procedure, which is a variation of the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, because I was well over 300 pounds and was facing needing a third lower back surgery. It was not advisable for me to get the third back surgery because 1) I was morbidly obese so there were health concerns especially with anesthesia and 2) The recovery from the procedure typically contributed to a substantial increase in my weight because I couldn’t really exercise enough for it to be beneficial without potentially/inevitably compromising the new back fusion. Dr. Naim is very direct and business like. He is a very proficient surgeon and the surgical procedure he performed on me went off without a hitch. I had problems adjusting initially and in that area Dr. Naim isn’t a very patient, hand holding type of doctor. But if you want a well performed Fobi Pouch procedure and have access to a support group, (especially if you know you need lots of advise and encouragement,) Then Dr Naim is your man.

Problems with vitamin and mineral malabsorption
Stetdadee posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’ve always been anemic, even as a child. I had my Gastric Bypass in December 2012. As of late I’ve had an increasing problem with my blood levels and several of my vitamins and minerals testing dangerously low, especially my Iron levels. I found an article on the issue and how intravenous infusions may successfully address the issue: http://bariatrictimes.com/intravenous-micronutrient-therapy-imnt-for-gastric-bypass-patients-a-solution-to-complications-of-an-often-unrecognized-problem/ Has anybody else had this problem and if so what option(s) did you explore to address it? -
