  1. My surgeon is requiring Pulmonary Clearance and I am already on a Bi-Pap machine. Does anyone have any idea what they will do to approve clearances for me? I pray they don't want me to have to do another sleep study prior to surgery. I know I will need one sometime after surgery when I have lost a lot of weight. Thanks y'all Karl

    Pulmonary Clearance

I was asked to bring my Bi-Pap with me to the office visit, but as far as the last sleep study... it's been a while and I guess that doctors office would need to locate that? It's been about 5 years I would guess. I hope that does not hold my surgery up.

  8. I'm having gastric bypass surgery and I thought I was pretty much all done with all the clearances I needed. However since they advised changing me from doing the gastric sleeve to bypass they are requiring a cardiac & pulmonary clearance. I currently have sleep apnea so I am wondering is pulmonary clearance not require another sleep study? Just kind of like a check to make sure your safe for surgery? Then my second question was for cardiac clearance will they be doing an EKG or stress test? Or again is it just something like listening to my heart and taking my blood pressure. Thanks for any replies or feedback on this!
  9. Hi everyone! I would like to know what the longest any of you have heard anyone has been out of work after surgery. I will be having bypass surgery as well has a hernia fixed while they are in there. I have heard that it would not be out of the question to be out for around 6 weeks?
  10. Hi, I was told by a friend who has her surgery at the a Navy Base Hospital and after surgery she was in ICU for 24 hours?!? Is that normal? Or in a regular hospital will I go right to my own room after recovery? Thank y'all for your replies ????

  13. I started my low carb diet to try and get a head start before surgery, I felt it would feel good to say I lost some prior to surgery too. BUT I have the worst pains in my head, I think it's maybe sugar withdrawl. Anyway I hope to fee better in a day or two
  14. Can anyone tell me this, is it nessasary for the hospital and doctor to place a drain line in for after surgery? Also do they have to do a catheter while you are staying in the hospital? Thank you!

    The dreaded liquid diet

I made my own broth from scratch. I don't mind using the canned or boxed broths for cooking, but I don't really like them all by themselves. The cubes are way too salty for me. My favorite chicken broth recipe is: 1 whole fresh chicken (giblets & neck removed) 2 onions (white or yellow) quartered 3 stalks celery (include the leaves) 1 whole head of garlic, cut in half at the equator 3 tablespoons Kosher salt (or half the amount if using regular salt) 1 teaspoon whole black peppercorns 1/4 bunch fresh thyme Add everything to a large stock pot or dutch oven and fill with Water. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer. Skim off the foam while simmering. Simmer for 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Remove the veggies and chicken. Strain the stock into containers. Refrigerate or freeze the stock. I removed all the fat and bones from the chicken and froze it for use later on.[/quote. Thanks @@laurenjane I copied your chicken broth recipe so I can use it too! Thank you ????

    Bypass or sleeve

@Djmohr I love your feedback! I feel it's going to be very helpful since I am also going with the Bypass
  19. I saw my surgeon on March 19th and was told by the bariatric advisor that I would be looking at surgery for the first part of August. I have already met with my dietician and had my first class on “Hunger” Now I am being told I have two more class then I see my final visit with my surgeon. I didn’t understand why surgery would be in August if I only need 3 months of monitored visits for my Insurance co. AETNA why do I have to wait so long. They claim it will take 2 weeks for Aetna to approve everything once they get it. Any feedback is appreciated.
  20. Thank you all for your feedback. I look forward to sharing my experience with everyone too.
  21. I'm new here and hope to learn more from a lot of you. I have already met with my surgeon and I will be having the Gastric Bypass done. I’ve already met with my dietician and started my 3 months of classes needed by my Ins. Co. Now I meet with my psychiatric on Monday May 1st for clearance. I hope to chat with a lot of you over time and share our stories.
