In the first few days of my new life...
hcwild posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my sleeve done on 8/12/15. I had very little post-op pain in the hospital, but I'm pretty sure they were johnny on the spot with my pain medications. I also warned them ahead of time that I usually am extremely nauseated and vomit after anesthesia, none of that this time! The worst part of the experience so far has been how tired I was in the hospital---no rest there! I have been home for 4 days now, and am dealing with the "head hunger" I was warned about on this site. I am not getting in my recommended fluids, although I am trying like mad. I have not cheated for the fear of damaging the sleeve. I still feel fatigued, but nothing like in the hospital. The whole thing still remains a dream to me. It seems so weird that this will change my life. I have the incisions to prove to myself that it was done, but my brain hasn't accepted the reality yet. I am super excited for the future me to bloom! My husband and kids have been a great support system these past few days, as have my friends. Some family still thinks I made a HUGE mistake, but it was MY mistake to make, if indeed it is one. I will be reading all of your posts for support in this clear liquid stage....already can't wait to get to pureed foods, but you won't hear THIS girl complaining! Thanks for all the support so far and to come. Heather -

Day 12 since surgery and I finally have energy! still doing clear liguids, cream soups (strained), SF jello, broth. The scale seems to have stopped moving. This is disappointing. Are you all experiencing this? It would be MY body to find a way around a surgery! jk -

Hello all! I had my surgery on August 12th. I have been doing Clear liquids since the 13th. I am supposed to start a Protein supplement to stir into my clear liquids starting tomorrow, but I don't know what to get? I am amazed that this process doesn't feel real yet. I have very little pain and am not hungry...yet. The scale has moved down 3 pounds, but I can attribute that to the clear liquids. Any suggestions for the stir in protein supplement that is safe for the first week?? Thanks in advance. Heather

I am walking more each day. I had my first trip out grocery shopping with the husband, and was very worn out afterwards. It seems like everyone has a different post op plan. I am on strict clear liquids for the first week, only 1 ml at a time every 15 minutes...I have a timer I use that I would like to smash! LOL

It's nice to know I'm not alone. I am not sure about how long the incisions take to heal. I have my one week follow up with the surgeon on Wednesday. I can't wait for real food either. I am definitely able to tell the difference between head hunger and real hunger....head hunger goes away if I am distracted...thank goodness! I am down 8 lbs since surgery...how much are you guys losing? -
So...I met with my surgeon last Friday, and we set a date for August 12th!!!! I never thought this day would come. It is very real now. I have my pre-op scheduled for this Wednesday, am working on FMLA paperwork for my leave and trying to get my required shopping done for my liquid diet. I couldn't be more excited! I have to admit I am also a little nervous about the possible complications, and post op pain. I tend to get nauseated after anesthesia, but I will let them know ahead of time. I can't imagine vomiting after this procedure! It is amazing at how hard you work towards something, then all of a sudden it arrives! I can't wait for my new life to begin, and the new me to emerge. For all of you thinking the day will never come...it does, and WHEN it does, it is wonderful. Say a prayer for me! Heather

So it will be one month this coming Wednesday since my last required appointment. I have been waiting impatiently to find out if my insurance has approved my gastric sleeve surgery. I was initially told it takes about two weeks for insurance approval/denial. I waited the two weeks and contacted my insurance company for an update on the prior authorization. I was told they hadn't received any information from my bariatric center. I then called the bariatric center and they told me they "dropped the ball", and didn't submit it. Boy, was I bummed!!!! When you work so hard for something, you can't wait for the next step! So, here I sit waiting for the phone to ring to give me my answer. I hope I get an answer soon!! I can't wait to begin my new journey!

Hello all, I have a few weeks before my final NUT appointment. My boys, ages 7 and 14 have no idea that I plan to do this surgery. My oldest son has watched me struggle for years with my weight, exercising, eating healthy, but I have never made a point to say that I am struggling, or make negative comments about my weight. I want their self images to be positive, and not focus only on a scale. How did you all decide to tell your kids? Your thoughts/experiences are welcomed! Heather

Hi everyone! My name is Heather. I live in East Central Minnesota. I am married to my high school sweetheart of 18 years now. I have two boys, 15 and 8. I work full time as a licensed practical nurse and go to college part time to become a registered nurse. Like many of you, I have been overweight the majority of my life. I was teased in school, and often as an adult I hear disparaging comments. I have been considering gastric surgery for the past 10 years. I looked into it again after I saw a patient having great success, and I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. I am 5'4" and weigh 255 lbs. This is the heaviest I have been. I have done all of the diets with some temporary success. I have always gained the weight back, with a little extra bonus weight added on too. I have one more month of seeing the required dietician before my "case" is submitted to insurance. The time has seemed to fly by until now. Since college classes start again for me on Monday, I am hoping I won't have much time to pace the floor waiting for time to pass. This forum has been a great resource. I hope that along with you all, I can someday share my experience and success! You all are a blessing to me!!! <3 Heather
