It's 18 months post op. Weight loss has really slowed down. I've lost 185 lbs. Trying to lose 50 more. Starting weight was 410. Today 235. I walk 3 miles 5 days a week. I lift weights 3 times a week at the gym. I'm still eating right. About 1200 calories a day. Had surgery on both legs which hurt my daily exercising. Set me back about 3 months. I feel really good. I've lost 16 inches in the waist. I'm off all of my 9 prescription medicines. I'm no longer Diabetic & no longer have to take insulin shots. I was taking 60 units twice a day. My Neuropathy was so bad I was thinking about using a motorized chair at the store. My sleep apnea was so bad I had 2 head on collisions. It has now gone away. Hopefully I can lose this next 50 lbs by Springtime. This surgery totally changed my life. I feel better, look better, & hopefully have added more quality years to my life. Even my dog has lost 25 lbs due to all the walking. I have become addicted to exercise instead of food. I look forward to what the future holds. I am determined to reach my goal. I take it one day at a time. I am proud of the new me. I'll be even prouder in 6 months. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Highest weight 410. Current weight 240. Goal 195-200. This has changed my life. I feel so much better, & my attitude is so much better. Still got a ways to go but I'm on the downhill slide. My health is so much better. No diabetes, no more insulin shots, no more sleep apnea, no more neuropathy of the feet. I exercise & eat right. I'm so greatful for my 2nd chance at life. At 61 I feel better than when I was 40. Sent from my Z970 using the BariatricPal App

First day of liquid....
kempermorris replied to elisaa33's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good Luck to you. I'm 60. The 2 week liquid diet is the hardest thing I've ever done. Just take it 1 day at a time. Don't cheat & if you get so hungry you can't stand it drink an extra shake. I did 3 or 4 times during the 2 weeks. It gets easier after the 3 rd day. I'm living proof you can do it. I'm down 175 lbs in 14 months & have 50 more to go Sent from my Z970 using the BariatricPal App -
I am 15 months post op. I had some setbacks because I had both legs operated on & both legs had complications. Took me several months to heal & I wasn't able to walk & exercise. I didn't gain any weight during that 4 months but I didn't lose any either. I have lost a total of 175 lbs. About 50 lbs short of my goal. I'm back on track having lost 10 lbs last month. I eat around 1200 calories daily & cut out everything bad I was eating. No fast food, no fried food, no sweets, no sodas, & no beer. I went a year without coffee. That nearly killed me. Now finally I'm back to drinking coffee. My weight was 410 & I'm at 245 now. I was diabetic taking 2 shots of insulin a day. I am now insulin free. No more shots. My blood sugar is perfect. My blood pressure, cholesterol, sleep apnea, neuropathy, all in check & went away. My new way of eating is lean grilled meats & lots of vegetables. I walk 4 miles 3 times a week & go to the gym & lift weights 3 times a week. I almost backed out of having the surgery. Even when I was going to all of my required spots I wasn't totally sold on this idea. But when they called & said your surgery date has been scheduled I decided to go ahead & do it. Its the single best decision I ever made in my life. I was on 12 different prescriptions & now NONE. No longer diabetic. I have more energy & I feel great. I hope to lose my goal of 225 lb weight loss by end of August. That would put me at 190. When I get there I'm going to reward myself with a trip to Cozumel & go scuba diving. I haven't been diving in 35 years because I was too big. I turn 61 in May but in many ways my life is getting a 2nd chance. So grateful for my Doctor, Nutritionist, & all the moral support I received from my friends. Sent from my Z970 using the BariatricPal App

NO MORE PURÉE PLEASEEEEE...
kempermorris replied to Deleted Profile's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I loved to cook too. I hated pureed food as well. Time passes fast. I'm 15 months post op & seems like just the other day I was right where you are. Stay the course & you'll reap the rewards. I've lost 175 lbs. No longer Diabetic & insulin free. No more sleep apnea, no neuropathy, no high blood pressure or cholesterol. But you HAVE to make major changes. No fast food, no fried foods, no sweets, no sodas, etc. Lean grilled meats is your friend. chicken, turkey, or fish. Grilled vegetables. And I can't stress this enough. EXERCISE!! Get out and walk. Join a gym. You can do this. Its a struggle but worth all the sacrifices you'll make. Just take it one day at a time. Set short term goals Sent from my Z970 using the BariatricPal App -

I'm 9 months post op what should my daily calorie intake be
kempermorris replied to don.thomas4@aol.com's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Its a proven fact that lifting weights will increase your metabolism & healthy eating along with moderate exercise will speed up the process. Some people are so negative they think the tried & true method is outdated. There is no magic bullet. To be successful takes hard work. Some people are willing to make the sacrifice & do it & right the ship so to speak & others are not. And that's fine if they don't want to but don't try to argue that the method that has been proven to be accurate is obsolete. The only thing obsolete is your thinking. You're a prime example of THEY WALK AMONG US!! Sent from my Z970 using the BariatricPal App -

kempermorris replied to don.thomas4@aol.com's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@Mocca I was simply trying to help. In a few months I will reach my goal of losing 235 lbs. Its NOT just calorie consumption. Its WHAT you eat. The reason you were fat in the first place is you made poor food choices. All of that has to change. Exercise MUST be added to be successful. If you want to sit on your couch with your remote control & hope the weight falls off because you've eaten 1100 calories is absolutely insane. You don't have a FRIGGIN CLUE what you're talking about & I dong appreciate you chastising me.So keep your lame stupid comments to yourself. If you can't add anything positive then keep your DAMN MOUTH SHUT!!. Idiots like you piss me off. Eat your 1100 calories in snicker bars & lay on the couch & whine about not losing weight. WHAT AN IDIOT!! Sent from my Z970 using the BariatricPal App -

Also multiply your current weight x 15. That's the total amount of calories you have to assume in a day to maintain your weight. 3500 calories to a pound. Reduce your intake 500/day= losing 1lb a week. Exercise burns calories as well. Its easy to lose weight at first. Now the hard part is here. My only point is don't try to achieve your goal by diet alone. More than likely won't work or you'll gain it back. Sent from my Z970 using the BariatricPal App -

kempermorris replied to don.thomas4@aol.com's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It is simple. If you burn more calories than you consume you will lose weight. Congratulations on losing 135 lbs. That is awesome. But if you need to lose more diet is not the only solution. You need to exercise & eat right. You can reach your goal but I wouldn't restrict my diet to 1100 calories. Eat & drink Protein & increase your metabolism so it will burn fat. Its a struggle everyday with me. I eat 1200 calories a day & walk everyday & go to the gym 3 days a week. I'm still a works in progress but feel so much better. Check out My Fitness App on your phone to keep daily track of your calories & exercise. Good Luck to you. You got this. Just stay motivated & have a burning desire to succeed & you will. @1200 Calories you should be losing 2 lbs a week. Exercise if you're not already. Walk a mile & build up to 3. Join a gym & lift weights to increase your metabolism. Eat lean meats. Fish & chicken & lots of vegetables. No bread, no sweets, no fried food, no fast food, no diet sodas. All of this you should have done 9 months ago. If you didn't start today. I've lost 170 lbs so far & have 60 more to go. I was on 12 different prescription meds. Now I'm on none. I was diabetic taking 2 shots of insulin a day. Now my diabetes has gone away & no more shots. My high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, neuropathy ALL IN CHECK. You can do this & achieve the results you want but it takes a serious effort to get good results. Laying on the couch with your old eating habits won't work. You've done the hard part now reap the rewards Sent from my Z970 using the BariatricPal App -

Lingering questions
kempermorris replied to daniellepb's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You're supposed to sip not gulp. Using a straw would let you take in too much liquid. The reason no liquid is that it would fill you up. When its time to eat eat your protein first, then vegetables, & starch last. You will get used to your new way of eating. Hang in there. It gets better over time. I'm one year post op. I've lost 160 lbs so far. Still have 60 more to go. It literally changed my life. -

Starting weight 410. Current weight 250. 60 more pounds to go. This surgery changed my life & I'm not thru yet. I'm no longer diabetic. My sleep apnea is gone. My neuropathy in my feet is gone. I've lost 16 inches in my waist. My blood pressure & cholesterol is in check. I can choose a booth instead of a table because I'm too fat to fit in it. My energy is incredible. I'm now addicted to exercise. I walk 3 miles 4 days a week. I lift weights at the gym 3 days a week. I look forward to what lays ahead next year. My dog has even lost 25 lbs from all the walks. It was the best thing I've ever done for myself & also the hardest. I look forward to being under 200 lbs. Hopefully I've added a few years to my life. I'm 60 yrs old & I'm getting another chance. I appreciate all the support I got from this group. It really helped me get thru the rough patches. Thanks again
