  1. I just had my first appt. I have BCBS of Texas. They require 5 years of obesity history which is why I am worried about.
  2. Just to give you an idea of my weight roller coaster ride; I started my current job five years ago and was about 160 to 168 pounds. With no time I started gaining weight caught up over 215 pounds, lost the weight and got into the 180 range, and now I am 235.

    Anyone else have an Endoscopy?

Having one Tuesday with colonoscopy. My PC wanted me to do this two years ago but I frowned. The reason she did this because I'm over 50. I've had them both done before so it's really no big deal.
  4. I am still in the beginning process of the journey. I had my first appointment on May 4 and I went and wanting the sleeve. I told him upfront about A lot of my indigestion and belching issues. I wonder if it's the cokes and if it will go away once I quit drinking them? However, he said based on the indigestion that he would advise that I do the bypass and explained why. I walked out with a frown, however I'm going to do what the doctor suggestion.

    My surgery is May 11th!

Jenn you have a beautiful face. I am happy for you.
  6. Your bruising looks bad but it looks like it is healing. Bless your heart. Is that much bruising normal?
  7. I am not familiar with the group you are speaking off. I do know about 5-6 people used The Davis Clinic from work. I work past Katy and was there in less than 30 minutes. It is right last beltway 8' exit Gessner and on the right. I just had traffic on my way home

    First Appointment

My first appointment is May 4th. This is not even surgery time, or waiting on approval for my insurance and I am already nervous. What can I expect on my first visit? I am also trying to understand why the whole process can take so long from first visit to surgery day?

    Bypass or sleeve

I'm very happy I ran into this post. I had my first consult today on May 4 and I was wanting the sleeve. My heart was set on the sleeve.Well he heard some of my history and the fact that I'm belching like crazy and I'm waking up with severe pain in my chest, under my breast and thru my back. We are currently trying to rule out gallbladder issues and they will also be doing a another test on me to see if I really have Gerd. My doctor also informed me that they have a lot more history on the bypass compared to the sleeve. So based on all of this information he recommends the bypass for me. He does want me to see the nut to make sure that I can stick to the diet restrictions that come along with the bypass surgery. I believe I am going to follow by Dr.'s orders and take his expert advice. I'm having the colonoscopy because of my age and the Endoscopic thingy and one other test which I have no idea what it's for on May 19 after that I see him again
  10. Tony I'm in Houston as well and I just had my first consult today. Three people I work with have use the same group of doctors so that's how I made my decision on where to go. The name of the clinic is the Davis clinic and it's located at I 10 and Gessner. There's the old Mr. Davis who from what I understand is a little arrogant but it's been doing this for years and he's very good. There's the young Mr. Davis which I don't know much about. Then there is Dr Primomo and he is the one I went with. I'd like him very much. I was comfortable with them and I felt like he was honest and sincere. They do have a website which you can check out. Just search for the Davis clinic and the number is 713–4 86–1755. I hope this helps you. I'm not sure what part of town you live in but if this location does not work out well for you, go over to the sleeve forums and do a search for Houston , you can find additional doctors.
  11. I think I am a forum stalker too. Do we need to join another support forum for stalkers? ????I think I need to start stalking in the bypass surgery forum because the doc thinks I may be a better candidate for it????

    First Appointment

Well, I had my first appointment. I loved the doctor. He is nice, great bedside manners and even cute, but married. Bad news number 1. This surgery will not happen anytime soon due to concerns. . Also, he has concerns with all my belching and possible acid reflux and the pain I have been having. He says that a good number of people that are sleeved have acid problems, and with me already having that issue, it could add to it. So the first step for me is to find out what is going on with my pain, and belching and to see if it is really acid reflux or something else. There were no gallstones on the ultrasound. He added two more tests to my colonoscopy and endoscopic thingie, and he will coordinate with my gastro doctor. Then I will see him again after the results come in. Bad news number 2. Due to reflux issues, but until we find out more, he is suggesting the bypass surgery for me instead of the sleeve. He believes it may be better for me. But this all depends on what happens with the other testing. This also means I may have to have to jump to the other forum :-( But I don't want to !!!!! Bad news number 3. Really really really bad news. WIth my Tourettes and ADHD, he is concerned with my restrictions on the bypass and being able to stick to the diet restrictions. So I do have to see the nut doctor and probably more than once. So with all this said, there is a chance this surgery will not happen. But I know he is being a good doctor and is doing what is in my best interest. I did ask him if this happens will it happen before the end of the year, and he said yes. So we have to make sure I am healthy enough to be able to go through the surgery before anything else is done and I am submitted to insurance

    Ok probably dumb question...

Glad everything went well for you
  14. I made a posting on here a few days ago concerning my right eye and retinaoschisis. I can never spell it right. Went to the eye doctor today and I have a bubble in the central vision between two layers of the retina. I got another shot in the eye which is normal, please don't freak out. It is now noted in my chart that they may now be considering surgery on my right eye. The surgery would require a gas bubble to go where the vitreous gel once was and for me to lay facedown for approximately 10 days. The hope is that the gas bubble would help get rid of the bubble and put the retina layers in place. In June they're going to do a die test on my eyes which I have had before. . The purpose of it is trying to determine where the Fluid is coming from. They are also going to be trying me on another very expensive medication which insurance will cover in my case. It may or may not help. I have about 100% sure that I'm not diabetic or that high cholesterol plays a role in this My eye doctor is aware that I am considering sleeve surgery and she actually told me that I may want to consider putting it on hold and focusing on this eye. It basically boils down to which is more important. We will know more about this I in a few months. I'm still planning on my May 4th consultation. All I know to do right now is pray and continue going forward.

    Bad news and decision

Still going through the consult May 4th. I will bring up the eye to WLS doc. We will know more on my eye at the beginning of June. The eye is not an easy case at all. Wish I could do WLS then eye within same time frame but I have to remain facedown posture 10 days, including sleeping on tummy. That will not be possible.

    CANT DEAL

I had a posting the other night because I was mad at myself for getting into the shape I am in. I got past that moment and it is now time to move on. So I read your post and the posts that followed and the thing that came to mind is one of my favorite stories as a child "The Little Engine that Could" If you have not heard of it, the story is used to teach children about optimism, staying positive, and the value of hard work. I think that is what every person in this forum is going through when they start their permanent weight loss journey. Your didn't start this journey becasue "You think you can", you started it becase "You know you could"

    Mad at myself

I am mad at myself for getting to the point where I have to have weight loss surgery. Mad at myself for eating like I do. Mad at myself because in the early 90's, I was once told I had the flattest stomach of anyone they had ever seen. Mad at, myself for losing the weight when I was 172 lbs and got down to 130 and gained it back, Mad at myself for being 217 pounds and losing it down to 168 and gaining back even more. Mad at myself for knowing that I will no longer have the flat stomach, but saggy skin. Mad at myself because my bra size was a 34a and it is now 46dd. Mad at myself for gaining so much weight that I waddle like a duck when I walk mad at myself because I know my body is a temple of the Holy Ghost and I have not been good to that temple. It is just just 90 lbs, can I do it on my own? I question this. This is my mood right now on top of my weight issues, I have asthma, I belch, cough loud, I have Tourette's and ADHD. My eyes are bad and I have vision problems that LASIK can't correct. I have plantar fasciitis. Mad at myself for being tired and not being able to get to work on time. I am just starting this process and I am grateful for all of you and your support where I will not be judged for being over weight. I am an overcomer and through God, I will get through this.

    Mad at myself

Thank you everyone for the support and encouragement. All of you are 100% correct. We all need honesty but not in a harsh way and you were kind and supportive. I guess I was having one of those moments and I will probably have them again.
  20. I have done some reading and based on what I read, you only loose about 60-75% of the weight that you need to loose on the sleeve Is this true, or can you actually lose the full amount of your goal weight So if I am 100 pounds overweight I would onlylose 60-75 lbs. and not the full 100; and also you lose 2-4 lbs. per week. However I read with the bypass you would lose more weight and lose it faster. I also wanted to let everyone know how awesome you are!!!

    Weight loss, sleeve vs bypass

Thank you for your answers and I was just kind of curious based on what I had read. I am wanting to go with the sleeve.

    Ok probably dumb question...

Referring to my earlier post I am just having one done because of my age. But when you get my age and you have to have one done don't be afraid of it. You'll be just fine

    sleep study

I just want you guys to know how serious sleep apnea really is. A girl that is overweight that I have known since I was about 12 years old went to sleep one night and she did not wake up the next morning. She died from sleep apnea. She was married and a my BMI is at about 38.1. I have my first doctors appointment/consultation on May 4. My sugars are good. I know I have high cholesterol, and blood pressure is good. I do have arthritis in my lower back around my L5 disc that hurts me pretty bad, including my hands and thumb. I also have planter fasciitis and Incontinence. So basically I have no other comorbidity other than high cholesterol. Don't laugh at this but I have recorded myself sleeping. I snore wake up, wake up snore wake up, and it goes on. I wake up tired. Trust me I don't want to have sleep apnea but do you think that there is a chance based on what I am telling you that I might have a little bit. I know I don't go into REM sleep all of the time. I do have to take something to help me sleep and even with that I snore and wake up snore and wake up. My snores are not very loud. I used an app called dream pro in case you ever want to record yourself.

What was your out of pocket?

I'm hoping I had this planned out right for myself. I am on HSA plan at work and my deductible is $2000 I already met my deductible this year with an ER visit for a kidney stone. So from now until the end of the year I should pay zero dollars. So basically what is broken on me this year is getting fixed. So next up is the dermatologist and allergist.
