    Preop Diet

    One month to Forever Changed

Congrats on making a huge step! I am set for surgery this friday and so far this is what I can share: 1- Follow what your surgeon, nutritionist, etc tell you to do. You may see some crazy things here but stick to the proven plan they have. 2- Change your eating habits not, more Protein less carbs. It will be less of a shock later. 3- Be your own advocate...ask questions. 4- Drink, drink drink! You can do this and everyone here is so supportive and excited for you!

Can you MAKE me feel worse?

I am so so sorry for your bad experience. i absolutely agree that you should write a letter to the Admin so that they can address the situation. Nothing changes if you don't and this is something that HAS to change. Hold your head high and know that you are better than those who judge you and one day they will need empathy and know what its like. Sending hugzzzzzz!!

    No longer prediabetic!

Congrats!! That's awesome! I am doing my pre-op diet for surgery May 15th. Between the weight I lost waiting for approval and my pre-op diet my meds got cut in half today. I can see the light coming at the end of this medicine train!

    24 lbs down...1-week Post-op!

Congrats on the success so far. Isopure makes a flavored clear high Protein drink that is pre-packaged. A bottle has 40 grams of protein. Its the consistency of Water but flavored (fruit punch, coconut, etc). Hope that helps!!

Glad to have an early time just so I don't have to wait! Got my prescriptions for my meds and found out I am going home same day!! Surgery May 15th...every day gets a little closer!! Final weigh in before surgery day and I am below 300 at 296.5!!! woohoo!!!

    Question about Surgery?!

Your surgery date won't get pulled. Good for you for getting started!! Eating better now will make things easier later since its a lifestyle change and not a diet. The way I looked at it any pounds I can lose now means I get even more pounds off with the surgery, I didn't want to gain anything to just have to lose it again...there IS NO overthinking right? lol

    Psych Eval Question- Getting worried

Mine was back in February 2015 but I also wasn't asked about past weight loss experiences in such depth. I was asked about my past and how those things affected my eating patterns. And same as @@rwoods200, I was asked questions to make sure I understood what I was undertaking. At the end of my eval the psychiatrist did mention that he wouldn't need to see me again. Maybe the psych is seeing if you need counseling or support for you to be successful or if you can do it on your own? Good luck!

    Holy **** I got a date!

    Congrats!!
  19. You probably didn't "set yourself back" but anything not on your approved list isn't doing what you need. I am sure you learned a valuable lesson about labels and one slip isn't the end of the world, get back on that horse!!

    Protein Shake issues

All Proteins shakes are not equal, I found some shakes upset my stomach and I am not even post surgery yet! From a nutritional website: whey protein isolate is the highest percentage Protein you can buy. Whey protein isolates are typically about 90% protein before manufacturers add in flavors or sweeteners. That means there's little room for anything else. As a result, most whey isolates are fat-free, are very low in carbs, and are lactose free. This makes whey isolates ideal for those dieters trying to dramatically reduce carb consumption or bodybuilders trying to cut-up right before a contest. For kids or adults who are sensitive to the small amount of lactose found in whey protein concentrate, then these lactose-free whey isolates are an ideal choice. From a taste standpoint, compared to whey concentates, whey isolates have a more watery consistency and tend to taste slightly better. A typical serving of whey isolate contains about 25 grams of protein, 2-3 grams of carbs and 0 grams of fat. Try the clean, refreshing, light taste of whey protein isolate. Maybe take a look at the types of shakes you have tried, although you have tried different brands it may be the same kind of protein and additives. Good luck!!

    pre pre pre op

My first consult was Jan 29th of 2015. There was a major snafu with the doctors office insurance coordinator not submitting my paperwork for a month. My paperwork got submitted to Aetna on March 16th and I was initially denied as Aetna said I didn't have enough info. I found out from the insurance coordinator that she felt some things were duplicates so she omitted them. I had kept copies of everything so I faxed it all in myself and got approved. I got my approval letter at the end of April. I know approval times depend on different insurance companies and their requirements also. I am now doing my pre-op diet and have a big nutrition class tomorrow where they will go over my post op diet. I will have another meeting with the surgeon and then some pre-op stuff with the hospital in the afternoon. I will say that for me, it seemed to go very fast once I had the consult and I was busy gathering information,, letters and such. Then it seemed to drag and I got a bit frustrated. Once the approval letter came its like I crested a roller coaster and am hurtling to the end..lol

    pre pre pre op

Agree with CanyonBaby. My visit was a relatively short appointment. I was weighed and my vitals taken. I then met the surgeon and he asked me about my past and attempts to lose weight. He asked me if I had thought about what surgery I wanted and he agreed the sleeve was right for me. I had a list of questions from my online research and he took the time to answer them. He had me lie back and he pressed around on my stomach and that was it. I met with the nutritionist who asked me about what I ate. (based on research I had already switched to higher Protein and was already using My Fitness Pal to log all my food. She gave me the copy of the pre-op diet I would be doing once scheduled. I then met with the insurance coordinator who went over my insurance and what to do. She gave me a checklist of what they needed to submit to the insurance company. She also gave me a timeline of what happens after submission. My surgery is scheduled for May 15th! Definitely be honest and forthcoming so the best decisions are made. Good for you for doing this now, I wish I had done this when I was younger. Good luck!!
