This pre op diet is killing me

I did the pre-op diet for 2 weeks and yes by a certain point I had to make myself eat and drink. I had to do Protein shakes, sf pudding, light yogurt, Gatorade and Water. Not much variety there and everything was sweet. Maybe try spicing things differently for variety? I couldn't wait to get to the surgery date for it to be over but now I am on a week of 3 Protein Shakes a day and sf popsicles...lol Just keep your eyes on the prize and enjoy the weight you are losing as a by product of the pre-op diet...they are pounds that you are ahead of the game for after surgery. Good luck and hang in there!!
  2. Hey guys! Lovely topic I know but I have a question. From the first time I went after surgery yesterday and continuing into today I don't have a steady stream til done. I go a bit then stop, go again and stop. Is this normal for after surgery?

    Urination question

Thanks guys...finally peeing in a normal stream now...didn't have a catheter unless they did it after I was out. That was really strange for a bit.

  6. Sleeved today and doing great so far. Surgery went great and back home...will write more later. On pain meds and very sleepy.
  7. Proudly took a seat on the losers bench today!!

  8. When you were finally able to eat something, what did you go for? Even if it had to be pureed or soft...what did you make for your first non-liquid item? I just am looking forward to a different flavor than Protein shakes and yogurt...something savory and not sweet will be amazing.

    Aetna 2015 Weight Requirements

I have Aetna, I had to do an upper GI, blood work, an EKG, a letter from my PCP recommending the surgery, a psych eval and 2 years of pcp notes from visits with at least 6 months of weight loss attempts with 3 of those being consecutive months. Aetna stated it takes them 2 weeks when all documentation is provided to approve. Thanks to my surgeon's office it took me 2 and a half months to get approved. They did not follow what Aetna asked for and dropped the ball in a major way!

    Papers submitted

That may be to cover for the fact that they might not call to follow up on the authorization. My advice is not to wait but call your insurance company and ask to speak to someone in the pre-auth department on a weekly basis and follow-up. I did and found out that my insurance company had been trying to contact my surgeons office getting no response, that the paperwork didn't get turned in actually for a month after I had been told it was...BE YOUR OWN ADVOCATE! I learned my lesson the hard way. ' Good Luck!!

    Preop Diet

The pre-op diets vary from surgeon to surgeon...mine was eating every two hours...i could interchange light yogurt, sf pudding and sugar free applesauce...8 ounces of gatorade a day and a protein shake for lunch and dinner free foods were chicken broth and sf jello Some report being allowed to eat light meals at dinner and various other combinations Ask your nutritionist and I am sure they can give you a copy of what they follow

    Who I am

Are you losing inches...since you work out so loyally (and yay for that!) you may not notice as much weight loss initially as you are creating muscle.

    Good luck to you!!

Newbie - How do I choose?

Agree with definitely do your research...I am being sleeved on Friday. I chose the sleeve because I didn't want to deal with the absorptive issues of the bypass nor did I want a foreign body in me with the lap band. I also didn't want to do a lifetime of adjustments with the lapband. My surgeon agreed with my reasoning and said that most cases the sleeve is appropriate and he feels I will do well with it. I have 100+ pounds to lose and I have lost 41 pounds going into surgery. I have no reason to think I won't be a success. With regard to anything not being as effective for women? I think any of the three surgeries is a tool and only a small part of the story. For most it is a necessary tool and for varying reasons but it's your eating habits and the exercise you do once you are more mobile that make you a success or not. Just my opinion. Good luck in your decision!!

    Made an over-hungry bad decision

I can't imagine you are the only one to slip. At least now you are aware that you are at risk to mindlessly eat something and will be better prepared next time. This whole thing is a learning process.
  21. Husband had to go out of town for work...last 2 days before surgery on my own...He WILL be here surgery day

You poor thing. As Jane13 said though, you're not entirely alone - though I can only imagine how unnerved you must be to be physically alone at this point. Let us know if you need anything.

    Vitamin ?

Haven't tried those...my surgeon has me on chewables which I am to start after surgery on Saturday
  24. ShrinkingPeach

    Vitamins (and other pills)!

Your surgeon or nutritionist should have a specific plan for you. Ask for the regimen they recommend and then follow it. My nutritionist gave me the list at my last pre-op.

Is it CHEATING or is it a CHOICE?

I so agree it's a choice. The choices we made in the past got us here. It's the choices we make going forward that mean we made the right choice in doing something as drastic as surgery. I will NOT let this be for nothing. If you want to come here to confess and get back on the horse then go for it. If you are looking for me to tell you its okay to eat something when I know its not then don't come knocking. I know the things I have eaten in the past have ruined my metabolism and I have tried in vain to lose weight a few times only to plateau out and give up. It's a challenge to make this work but I am going to do my level best to use this tool I am being given in 3 days. The definition of insanity is doing the same things and expecting different results. Bravo LipstickLady!! Bravo!
